I don't think the Yankees or any other team should (or do) think in such absolutes. If they receive an offer they deem to be appropriate value, it's perfectly reasonable to move him. Generally, the idea that a team simply shouldn't trade a certain player (or that they should trade him at all costs) is flawed thinking.
Who Me

Marlins are overloaded with MLB pitchers. Despite what they say about not trading Kaleb, He's the old guy, not always healthy, and a sell high candidate. Why do we not see him included with talk about Boyd? Seems that a cheap, leftie with years remaining  of control should be of serious interest to a lot of clubs. If they traded him, what could they get? Hitters please.

Smith is a year further from free agency than Boyd, and the durability concerns you list would also exist among interested parties. I don't think you're selling high on a guy if he's never even tossed 100 innings in an MLB season. If he's healthy from his 2019 return through next July, his value may very well increase.
Dee Gordon

Where do I get traded?
Steve Adams

Gordon is sitting on a .295 OBP and still owed $14.5MM in 2020. Second base is perennially a buyer's market in July. I don't think he's likely to be moved.

Which team that drafted in the top 10 this month (not counting the Braves with that comp pick) makes the playoffs first? Last?
Steve Adams

Rangers might have a Wild Card berth this season! Orioles are still a long ways away, and I think the Royals are, too.

I'm thinking the Twins need 2 'pen pieces (say, a package deal for Will Smith and Sam Dyson). Or would you say 1 addition to the 'pen and a starter? Not many starters available and they tend to be pricier . . .
Steve Adams
3:44
They should add to both. Martin Perez's past seven or so starts have been awful, and Pineda can't get anyone out after once through the order. They'd be a logical combo landing spot if they wanted to go big and pursue something like Stroman/Giles. Could push Pineda into a multi-inning relief role then, too, which seems to suit a guy limiting hitters to a .249 OBP first time through the order quite well.
3:45
More likely they pursue separate deals -- Stroman/Giles would be very expensive, obviously -- but general point is they need help in both areas. I wouldn't prioritize one over the other.

Is a MadBum for Tyler O'Neill an even swap for both clubs?
Steve Adams
3:46
I just don't think this version of Bumgarner nets 5-6 years of an immediate MLB-ready asset.

Do the Jays have anyone other than Stroman, Giles and Smoak that could be traded for a decent return?
Steve Adams
3:48
I think some teams would love the chance to straighten out Aaron Sanchez, though the return wouldn't necessarily be huge. David Phelps could be interesting if he pitches well between now and July 31. Daniel Hudson maybe nets a warm body.

Current favorite for AL manager of the year? Can’t get Boone out of my head withstanding all those injuries
Steve Adams
3:49
Manager of the year basically just goes to "manager of the team no one expected to win this much" -- so I'd go Baldelli or Woodward.

Dee Gordon for Odor, who says no first?
Steve Adams
3:51
I don't see why the M's would take on the guy who is playing worse AND has the less desirable contract

Will the Red Sox get their reliever?
Steve Adams

I think their need for 'pen help is generally a bit overstated. They could certainly use an upgrade, but any contender could. This is from the post I wrote on Wright's return today:
"Despite a lack of offseason additions, Boston relievers rank eighth in the Majors in ERA (3.96). seventh in FIP (4.07) and seventh in xFIP (4.17). The Boston ’pen currently paces the Majors in K/9 (10.7) and overall strikeout percentage (27.5 percent), and while Wright won’t help in that regard, he’ll be expected to strengthen the overall unit by deepening the mix and perhaps providing some stability in a long relief capacity."
3:53
I can see them adding a cheap 'pen arm, sure (or a pricier one if the trading team eats some cash), but I don't think it's as dire a need as some suggest.
