What underperforming contract gets moved before the deadline?
Steve Adams
1:38
Blake Snell's the first name that comes to mind for me right now.

Do redsox send Duran back down when Kike comes back or do they make a trade around Dalbec, JBJ and a few prospects for a first baseman and some relief help?
Steve Adams
1:39
They should just stop playing Bradley at this point. There's no real justification for it.

How many games a week to you watch?   Includes games where you watch a few innings in and out?
Steve Adams
1:40
A lot? Haha. I don't have a good number. I have the Twins and Guardians on my second monitor right now while I do this chat.
Though I'm more just listening than anything

Will baltimore get anything for their relievers outside of Jorge Lopez?  They've got a lot of no-names like Nick Vespi putting up decent numbers.
Steve Adams
1:42
I don't think they have any clear trade candidates beyond Lopez (who I'm writing about right now for something that'll go on the site ... probably tomorrow?)

Based on the fact that they traded Scott and Sulser for a wildly underwhelming return just prior to the season, I have no idea what to expect them to consider fair asking price for 2.5 years of Lopez, though.
Astros just put Brantley on the IL and recalled Chas McCormick
Jonathan Suarez
1:43
Who needs Contreras the most?
Steve Adams
1:44
The Astros, but they have a bizarre obsession with Martin Maldonado.
Guardians, too, but I wouldn't expect them to take on the salary.
Rays
1:45
Does a Rafael Ortega trade make sense to add to the injured outfield?
Steve Adams
1:48
I just don't think most teams are going to consider Ortega a huge upgrade over what they currently have. He's had a decent 160 or so games with the Cubs, but he can't hit lefties, he's not a good center fielder, etc.

The Cubs have a lot of these 30ish journeymen who've exceeded their career outputs since signing/being claimed, but I don't see tons of trade value.

KC called up Vinnie P.  Any chance of a decent return for Pratto?  He feels like a bust but somebody might love his power and glove.
Steve Adams
1:51
He feels like a bust? He hasn't played an MLB game. The Royals are going to give both him and Pasquantino a look in the same lineup sooner than later. They've put a ton of work into developing Pratto, and he's hit quite well dating back to last season. He had a slow start in AAA this year but has been fine since.

DeJong for Snell as a framework
Steve Adams
1:51
Snell's struggling but still has quite a bit more value
Hats Off to Appel
1:52
How about that?  It took ten years, but how about that resolve?
Steve Adams
1:53
Love it. Happy for him just as a person. I can't imagine the pressure and scrutiny and dealing with all of the hate he took online, nor having the perseverance to give it another try and actually make it back
Well, not even make it back
Just to make it. Period.

I imagine you shaking your head a lot when you read some of the trade proposals/comments you must get in these chats.
Steve Adams
1:53
Sure, but I do the same to some of the trades that actually happen, ha. Never know.
Braves
1:53
Minter closing games when Jansen is out?
Steve Adams
1:54
Probably, though I tend to prefer just using your best reliever whenever the situation dictates rather than saving him for the ninth.

Do the Mets extend Brandon Nimmo or does he become a FA? He's a solid player that many teams could use.
Steve Adams
1:54
He'll reach the market and probably be paid a lot more than a lot of fans are expecting. Nimmo's very good and very underrated
Headhunter
1:55
Gallo to the Padres for Snell?
Steve Adams
1:55
Just because I said Snell is an underperforming contract who'll be moved doesn't mean I think he'll be moved for anyone. Gallo's value right now is zero (well, lower than that). Plenty of teams would love to get their hands on Snell and try to turn him around.

I have to give some push back. Maldonado has caught 2 immaculate innings and a no hitter. "Bizzarre obsession" means that you are not including the pitch framer and calling of Maldaonado. There is more to catching than swinging a bat.
Steve Adams
2:00
Maldonado's framing numbers over the past few seasons aren't even particularly good, and he's hitting .164/.256/.293 with a 30% strikeout rate in his past 607 plate appearances. There's more to the game than swinging a bat, but at a certain point you have to be able to do SOMETHING with the bat. Maldonado would need to be like peak-level Russell Martin or Yadier Molina to justify this level of playing time, and he is not that. Plus, as I've written before -- even if you love the clubhouse leadership and his game-planning abilities with the pitching staff... great. Make him the backup to Contreras and DFA Castro.

Houston catchers have been astonishingly unproductive this year.

Do you consider the Orioles a serious potential landing spot for Trea Turner or Carlos Correa?
Steve Adams
2:01
I think they SHOULD do that. I don't think they will. I thought they should've signed Correa this offseason. The payroll is blank, the system is building up, and at a certain point you have to start actually trying to put a winning team out there.

With Ty France looking like he’s secured 1st base, what’s a realistic best case scenario for Evan White?
Steve Adams
2:05
At this point White just needs to get healthy. Beyond that, I'm not sure what's to be done about the contract. There's always risk of signing guys so young, even if it's minimal. I think it was a fine move for the Mariners and a decent enough gamble to take, but at this point they're not going to escape much of the deal.

"Best-case" scenario, though, would be he gets healthy, plays up to his considerable potential, forces his way back onto the roster -- probably with France moving to another position (though that's not ideal defensively).

My D-Backs are going to miss the playoffs again, who do you think will be dealt by the deadline?
Steve Adams
2:07
Peralta, Ian Kennedy, Zach Davies. I'd say Caleb Smith or Luke Weaver if either were playing better
Jimmy
2:07
Other than Jose Quintana, are there any Pirates that will realistically traded at the deadline? I'm assuming asking prices on Bednar and Reynolds won't be met.
