Twins have the division locked up.  Signing Keuchel seems pointless.  Wouldn't trading for a proven, 2019, RP be safer than hoping Kimbrel can get it together before the playoffs?
Steve Adams
3:48
I don't think they'll make the best offer for Keuchel. I can see them going multiple years on Kimbrel thoguh.

Post-trade will I want to return to the giants? Or will I go for the best offer?
Steve Adams
3:49
Already took one club-friendly deal in San Francisco, and the Giants obviously are going to go through a few pretty rough seasons. I don't see him back in San Francisco following the inevitable trade, no.

Bird for Cat. Who wins? Sincerely, Dog, which no one knows I am on this, the endless, faceless injurenet.

I am posting this only because I am utterly bewildered by it.

Are Mize or Manning on th Tigers 25 man roster by years end?
Steve Adams
3:50
Doubt they call up either of their top pitching prospects by season's end, but I imagine both will very much factor into the mix in 2020.

Multiple reports said that the Phillies chose McCutchen over Brantley in the offseason due to Brantley's injury history.  Is there a bigger mistake that was made?  The Phillies need lefty power (hence Bruce), Brantley has been raking, and Cutch has been awful/is hurt.
Steve Adams
3:52
Brantley's injury history is enormous, and Cutch has been very good at the plate. Any player can get injured, and I don't think the fact that it happened to happen to McCutchen makes the decision any less justifiable. Brantley could still get hurt anyhow.
3:53
Also, Brantley has DHed 14 times this season; I have to imagine that's played into him being as healthy and as productive as he's been.
Obviously, that's not much of an option in Philly

Royce Lewis and Lewis Thorpe for Edwin Diaz. Who says no?
Steve Adams
3:54
The Twins aren't giving up Royce Lewis there. And the Mets aren't going to trade Diaz after like 3 months when his stock is down anyway.

What’s up with Frazier’s fielding he was never this bad in the outfield, even played some center field
Steve Adams
3:55
It is every bit as possible for a decent fielder to go through a slump in the field as it is for a decent hitter to go through a slump at the plate. I don't think the fact that he's had some misadventures in right field recently are indicative of a total inability to play good defense.

Who is the first 2019 entry draft first rounder to get dealt AKA Swanson
Steve Adams
3:56
How in the world could anyone know the answer to this?
:)

Can Howie Kendrick fill that void left by Zobrist on the Cub's bench?
Steve Adams
3:57
He'd be a perfectly reasonable target for the Cubs to pursue if they want an alternative and don't think Zo will return. Won't give them the switch-hitting aspect they'd be missing out on, but he's affordable, versatile, etc.

What were the Cubs thinking with their first pick? Yikes. No wonder their farm system is so bad.
Steve Adams
3:59
Generally speaking, it's ludicrous to make any sort of effort to grade draft picks or draft classes in real time. Or even in the near future. This is a multi-year process. There'll be dozens of pieces written over the next few weeks giving teams an "A" or a "C" on their draft or something, and I will roll my eyes at every one of them.

What happened to Martin Prado? His hitting has gone way down.
Steve Adams

He's 35 and has been injured more than healthy for the past couple of years.

Grading draft picks immediately after the draft in NFL is laughable; in MLB, insanity.
Steve Adams
4:01
Pretty much. But we live in a HAWT TAKE society where you need to always be extra spicy with your evaluations so people on social media can overreact, get into fights with strangers and say awful things to human beings they've never met.

Are the Red Sox struggles a reflection of a post-championship hangover or a sign of real problems with their roster?
Steve Adams
4:02
They got career performances out of like half the roster last season. It was never realistic to expect even Mookie or JD to repeat last year's showings.

I think there are some flaws on the roster -- lack of pitching depth chief among them -- but I also think expectations for the team were unrealistically high entering the year.

Is Dombrowski ruining the Red Sox as he did the Tigers? Spend Spend Spend and make poor decisions?
Steve Adams
4:03
He ruined them right into a World Series last year. What a monster.

Nobody mentions my name.
Steve Adams
4:04
They say if you mention his name aloud three times in the dark, Fernando Tatis Jr. will appear out of thin air and mock you about your past decisions.
4:05
But for real, he was throwing for clubs in early May. Could see him land somewhere this summer, but it sounds like he was hoping for a big league deal that teams didn't want to offer

Are the Orioles expecting buster posey out of Rutschman?
Steve Adams
4:07
I'm sure they're just expecting him to be Adley Rutschman. Expecting him to be the next Buster Posey or the next Joe Mauer or whoever isn't fair. Let the kid be himself. If things pan out, a half-decade from now people will be wondering if so and so is the next Adley Rutschman.  (And we'll go through this whole answer again!)

The expectation is that Rutschman will be a franchise catcher and a pivotal contributor in the organization's turnaround. How he goes about that is up to him, but they wouldn't have taken him 1-1 if they expected otherwise.

Angels buyers or sellers at deadline?
Steve Adams
4:09
I just don't see how they can get close enough to contending to make a realistic push as a buyer. Could try to add some win-now pieces controlled beyond 2019, but I don't think they're going to be pushing for rentals.

Someone like Matt Boyd would be an interesting target for them.
