Greetings folks. Happy draft season, if you're into that. If not, happy "hey the draft is almost over so now we can start really getting into trades" season!
Just a random person

Do you think there could be a player drafted this year that could help a mlb team by the end of the year?
Steve Adams
3:10
I've seen reports on Casey Mize that say he could pitch in a big league bullpen by season's end, but there's obviously no reason for the Tigers to rush him to that extent. I doubt we'll see anyone from the draft in the Majors this year, no.
Nathan Eovaldi
3:10
Do you think I could be traded this year?
Steve Adams
3:12
If he's healthy, sure. The Rays are doing weird things with their rotation anyway, and they don't shy away from moving rentals even in seasons when they're fringe contenders. As long as he's healthy and performing reasonably well, I think there's a decent chance he goes.
Jeff Samardzija
3:12
Is my trade value positive or negative?
Steve Adams
3:13
With all the injuries and the absurd decline in his control, there's not much value there right now. I don't think teams would think he's fully healthy. He was a K-BB% juggernaut last season, and this year he's among the worst in the league in that regard.

Does adding Noah Naylor to the system make it easier to part with Mejia in a possible trade?
Steve Adams
3:14
I wouldn't say that adding any type of prospect in the MLB draft makes an upper-level prospect more tradeable. Naylor is what? 18? Adding a high school catcher who's probably a minimum of four years from the Majors doesn't have much bearing on Mejia
Jeffrey Todd Helton
3:15
Will anyone draft Luke Heimlich this year?
Steve Adams
3:15
Seems like someone will. I wouldn't.

Mike Trout is on pace for almost 15 WAR season, How insane is that?
Steve Adams
3:16
At this point, I've just stopped being surprised by anything Trout does. He could shoot rainbows out of his palms like Smarf from Too Many Cooks and I'd barely bat an eye. (That was a weird, semi-dated reference to reach for there, but I'm sticking with it now!)

The O's said Memorial Day would be a bellweather. Obviously they remain terrible. When do the deals start? I need this Manny-trade-bandaid ripped!
Steve Adams
3:18
The surprisingly early Colome trade notwithstanding, I think it'll still be another month or so before we start seeing any deals of significance. O's are going to want to build up the market for Machado as much as they can, and there'll be some teams a month or six weeks from now who decide they're clearly in on Machado that might not be able to come to that same determination at present. I think they should already be shopping him around, but some teams probably aren't ready to commit to making that type of splash on the market just yet.

Is Teheran done?  Accuracy & velocity is down... Is her Jair Jurrjens reincarnated?
Steve Adams
3:22
There's just not really a ton to love there at this point. At this point he seems mostly like a five-inning starter who's not necessarily going to give you all that much quality in those five frames. I wouldn't do anything drastic like cut him, but he's a fourth/fifth type of starter with this profile and maybe something worse than that if he can't rediscover the control that made him so good when he was at his best.

Many feel the Orioles are only 8 players away from being a major league team.
Steve Adams
3:22
That is a hot take, my friend.

Are the Mariners good or just lucky?
Steve Adams
3:23
It can be both, can't it? They've got loads of talented players there, but the deluge of one-run victories that vaulted them to first place clearly isn't sustainable.
3:24
Anthony DeSclafani lives! Reds activated him from the DL.

Interesting results on the NL west race poll posted on the site. what is your gut feeling for the team that takes control of the west?
Steve Adams
3:26
With it being as close as it is now, I have a hard time betting against the Dodgers.

Also, on some "backwards day" or something in 3rd grade, I wrote my name on my paper as "Smada Evets" when the general idea was supposed to be "Adams Steve." That teacher and several friends called me "Smada" for years after the fact, ha.

Ought one buy what Mike Foltynewiczzczccsscszcxdczcxzxccxz is cooking?
Steve Adams
3:29
I don't know that I buy the uptick in strikeouts, and the .268 BABIP and 81% strand rate are going to regress eventually. His swinging-strike and chase rates are actually down from 2017, and his walk rate is worse. He's allowing a lot more hard contact, too.

If you're asking for fantasy purposes, sell high. It's not that he's completely unserviceable for the Braves by any means -- he still seems like a mid-rotation piece -- but this isn't going to keep up.

Are the giants prospects always underrated? Were any of Belt, Panik, or Crawford in the top 100 prospects?
Steve Adams
3:32
Belt was a Top 15-20 overall prospect at his peak. The others weren't, because no one thought Crawford had much of a bat. I wouldn't call their prospects perennially underrated. Posey, Bumgarner, Lincecum, Belt all got plenty of love, as did several guys who never panned out. Wherefore art thou, Tim Alderson?

How quickly do you think trade activity will ramp up after the draft?
Steve Adams
3:34
Depends what you mean by "activity." There'll be more rumors cropping up over the next couple of weeks, but late June/early July is the earliest I'd expect to see anything real consummated, and post-All Star Break is probably the safer bet, based on history.

Lots of August dealings last year, though, and I do think some of that'll carry over and become more of a trend.

Why is Ian Happ still on the Cubs roster?
Steve Adams
3:35
The guy hitting .254/.436/.610 over the past month?
3:36
He has a 121 OPS+ on the season ... the strikeouts are an obvious concern, but he's been slowly starting to pare back on them, and he makes loads of hard contact

Who is the next Prospect "Front Line" starter to debut this season?
Steve Adams
3:36
I would expect it to be Michael Kopech
(White Sox)

Your take on fan vote for All Star Game
Steve Adams
3:39
I just don't get worked up about it, at all. It's an online popularity contest for starters, and then managers just take a bunch of versatile guys most casual fans haven't heard of to fill out the bench. I don't know that I have a better strategy, but it's an obviously flawed system that makes it difficult for most players on teams with weak fanbases to really showcase themselves. I look at it similarly to HOF voting ... I have an opinion, but there'll be so many obvious misses that it's not worth really fretting over.

Brewers going after Madbum at the deadline crazy?
Steve Adams

I cannot see the Giants moving him.
