It has to. We might get some kind of expanded Arizona Fall League (plus a possible Florida Fall League), but it won't be the same as a full minor league season, and only a fraction of the game's minor leaguers would stand to benefit from it.

Did the Phils jump too quick to extend Kingery? He was hailed as a star and is so so
Steve Adams
5:01
He made notable strides from year one to year two, and the price on the deal made it extremely low risk. I like Kingery as a player and think he'll be a generally valuable piece over the life of the deal.
Tribe fan

Do you think Francisco Lindor has played his last game as an Indian?
Steve Adams
5:03
I don't, because I still expect some games to be played in 2020.

5:03
Will you guys be releasing a mock draft at all?
Steve Adams
5:05
Nope -- by our own admission, none of us are prospect gurus/scouts, and the effort that would need to go into putting together any sort of mock that we felt good about would be enormous and time consuming. It's never been something we've given that much consideration to just because it's a pretty notable undertaking to talk to that many people and try to get a sense of what teams are thinking. Plus, it's all so fluid.
Dodger Dan
5:06
How much does trading for Betts increase our chances of signing him, all other things equal?
Steve Adams
5:06
I think their enormously deep pockets help more than that they've already traded for him. At a time when so many other clubs will be reluctant to spend, the Dodgers can still dish out a huge offer
Angels fan
5:07
Do you think I can get Trevor Bauer for next year
Steve Adams
5:07
If they offer the most money on a one-year deal, sure.
Ryan
5:07
Can’t believe mlb is missing this golden opportunity to dominate live games for a month ... could’ve pulled so many fans over to baseball
Steve Adams
5:08
Virtually every element of this botched negotiation is surreal. It's embarrassing for the sport. Everyone looks terrible.
Rangers29
5:09
Rangers have to make the playoffs if 8 teams are let in for the A.L, right?
Steve Adams
5:11
I wouldn't say they *have* to. They had the 8th record in the AL last year, but some teams behind them got better (White Sox most notably). I don't think you can bank on both Lynn and Minor repeating career years, either.

If I were to put the time into making some set of predictions, I might end up with the Rangers in the 8 seed, but I don't think they're a lock.
DQ
5:12
What if Trevor Bauer and Alex Bregman were team mates?
Steve Adams
5:12
Ha, I have a pretty hard time seeing Bauer ever sign in Houston
Baseball Nut
5:12
When is union contract up between players and owners?
Steve Adams
5:12
The current collective bargaining agreement runs through Dec. 2021

Are A. McCutch's best days behind him ?
Steve Adams
5:15
That's been the case for awhile now -- and that was before the torn ACL at age 33. Not saying he won't be reasonably productive, but his MVP-caliber days have been a distant memory for awhile now.
Steve
5:15
What are the mariners going to do with there young prospects.
Baseball Money
5:16
Are GM's getting full salary?
Steve Adams
5:16
Most, if not all, have taken some degree of salary cut.
The big red 1
5:18
Any chance the reds can retrain either of their upcoming free agent starters, bauer or disco?
Steve Adams
5:19
DeSclafani seems likelier. Bauer will go to the highest bidder on a one-year deal, and I doubt that's going to be Cincinnati.

I love the baseball chats! You guys do great work. Also, who was your favorite baseball player as a child?
Steve Adams
5:22
Grew up in St. Paul, MN during the late 80s/90s, so Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, Gary Gaetti. My dad is from Illinois so I was a big Ryne Sandberg and Shawon Dunston fan as well. And I think every 90s kid just loved Ken Griffey Jr.
Jake Geimer
5:23
Who is the Blue Jays' third baseman of the future, Orelvis Martinez or Jordan Groshans (assuming they both eventually move to third)?
Steve Adams
5:25
I'd generally lean toward the more advanced prospect, which is Groshans. Martinez might be 4-5 years out yet.
5:27
Ok. I have to wrap this up for the week. Thanks for chatting everyone! I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve. We'll do it again next Tuesday. Enjoy your week!
