Will the Guardians trade Shane Bieber before the deadline?

(For what it's worth, I'd lean slightly toward them trading him)

Any chance Jackson Holliday gets called up this season?
Steve Adams
1:36
He hasn't played above A-ball -- he did just get promoted to Double-A -- and is still 19. I don't think it's happening, but 2024, yeah
Twins
1:36
Would trading Buxton Kepler or Polanco be realistic this trade deadline?
Steve Adams
1:37
Kepler maybe, but I don't think the value is huge. Buxton has a no-trade clause and the Twins wouldn't sell low like that anyway. I don't see much of a chance on Polanco either.

I think Ohtani should be traded 1000%, Ive heard the same thing year after year of how they’re going for it and falling flat on their face. I’d rather get some mlb ready guys now vs a lame draft pick
Steve Adams
1:37
This is a very fair take
1:38
I don't think they're going to do it, as I've said 1000 times, but I also don't think they're going to re-sign him and they're obviously far from a slam dunk postseason club in '23, so you're plenty justified in arguing they should move him now. Depending on the offer, I'd be inclined to agree. Doesn't change the fact that I don't think they'll actually do it though.

Would a trade of India for Gilbert straight up from Seattle make sense for both teams?
Steve Adams
1:39
Not for Seattle it doesn't, no.
India's a nice player, but Gilbert is more valuable in a vacuum and also has an extra year of control over India.

Best guess on an ETA for Skenes making his MLB debut?

What about Tyler O Neil for Logan Gilbert?
Steve Adams

We're going in the wrong direction here!

on record, im looking for infielders at the deadline. who could potentially be available targets?
Steve Adams
1:43
Last I talked to him, MLBTR's Anthony Franco was working on a piece on this exact topic, so I imagine that'll hit the site in the next day or two

What kind of trades do you see the Mets making? Ship out Canha or Marte ?
Steve Adams
1:46
Canha's a lot easier to move. Marte has $40MM+ remaining on his contract beyond the current season. IF the Mets can't make some progress in the three weeks leading up to the deadline, then any of Canha, Ottavino, Robertson, Raley, Carrasco make sense to go

Does Cherington listen to offers for Bednar at the deadline, or is he a Pirate in 2024+?
Steve Adams
1:47
He'll listen, just because GMs always listen, but I don't think Bednar's going anywhere.

Is Jack Leiter a bust? And could he be included in a deal at the deadline?
Steve Adams
1:50
Leiter turned 23 like two months ago and was aggressively pushed to AA for his first minor league assignment. He has fewer than 160 professional innings. I think people are far, far too quick to put the "bust' label on a prospect.

I'm not saying his stock isn't down -- it is -- and he could certainly be traded with Texas in win-now mode. But 30-35 starts doesn't make an early 20s kid a bust.

Is Joey Bart officially a bust or do you think he will be a viable trade chip?
Steve Adams
1:53
Even someone like Bart, it depends on you definition of "bust". There are players the Giants clearly wish they'd have taken over him now, sure (hey there Shane McClanahan!), and with Bailey thriving it looks like he might never put it together in SF. But does that mean Bart can't have a solid career and eventually emerge as a viable big league catcher? I don't think so.

So, if being a bust means "they picked the wrong guy," then I guess, but that applies to nearly every top-end pick. If it means "he's never going to be a big leaguer," then I'm not there on Bart even though things obviously don't look great. We've seen guys put it together after much longer stretches of mediocrity.

Cards ready to trade for Gilbert + Cease (seems they have the necessary trade chips)?
Steve Adams
1:55
The Cardinals have the system to get just about whichever controllable SP they want. I don't think those two in particular will move, but with Herrera, Winn, Walker, Gorman, Liberatore, Graceffo, Burleson, Hence, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. they can make as competitive an offer for any trade target as any club in MLB.
(I don't think they'll trade Walker, to be clear. I just threw him in there to highlight the depth of their young MLB-ready talent)'

Why does everyone think they would trade Gilbert?  They are looking to compete sooner rather than later.
Steve Adams
1:56
I'm not sure. I'm guessing he was included on some speculative list at MLB.com or The Athletic or something? I've gotten like 20 questions about Logan Gilbert today and I see a zero percent chance he is moved.

Carrasco doesn't bring back much, does he?
Steve Adams
1:57
Nah, but he's pitching better of late and if the Mets paid down some of the salary there'd be interest.

Could the Reds look to re-acquire Luis Castillo?
Steve Adams
1:58
Ha, they could try, but it's not happening. Even if the M's miss this year, they're shaping up to have Julio, France, Gilbert, Kirby, Castillo and Miller as a core group to build around and that's pretty dang nice.

Would Tyler O Neil get Bryan Woo (notice I got off the Gilbert train)?
Steve Adams
1:58
I don't think Tyler O'Neill is going to fetch a controllable starter of note.

Are the Cubs going to be stuck in the middle, not able to buy or sell? What if they split the difference? Could they deal say, Fullmer and Bellinger, but hang onto Stroman and maybe add a young arm?
Steve Adams
2:00
If Stroman's player option just renders the offers for him negligible, I suppose they can go that route. But they can't make him a qualifying offer, so if the Cubs are out of it there's going to be pressure to take some kind of return.

As it stands, they're 6.5 back in the WC and 7 in the NLC, so if they close that gap a bit, you could argue it was defensible to just hang onto Stro and hope for a second-half run.
