They'll both land with contending clubs at some point -- Gore could very well be outrighted first -- and the Royals' return will be minimal. Like, lower-level PTBNL and/or cash considerations. They're both pure pinch-running/defense specialists on a good team. Heck, that's what Gore was on a terrible team.

Kirby Yates oughta be available now, right? Generally speaking, he'll fetch a pair of prospects off of someone's top 5-15, no? I realize not all systems are equal and the lists are imperfect snapshots in time, so I am truly speaking in generalities.
Steve Adams
3:39
I think the Padres should make him available. I don't think they will. He could very well fetch more than what you suggested.

Any news on Dee Gordon? Last I read he maybe was going to the Cubs
Steve Adams
3:41
Never saw anything concrete indicating that, and the speculative blog I did see on it didn't make any sense. Gordon isn't performing well, isn't a clear upgrade over Chicago's current options and is owed significant money at a time when the Cubs have limited payroll capacity.
I just don't see how any contender is going to view Gordon as a viable upgrade who is worth pursuing.

As a Jays fan, what can I expect from a Stroman trade? Top prospect + more?
Steve Adams
3:45
Two summers ago, the A's got three guys (Jorge Mateo, Dustin Fowler and James Kaprielian) who had all been recently ranked within the game's 100 best prospects (or were currently ranked there) when they traded Sonny Gray to the Yankees.

If you prefer to go with general FV rankings, I think you can say a pair of 50-FVs and maybe a lower-level third piece is reasonable.

Could Stroman + Giles get a premier CF prospect back? Trammell? Waters?
Steve Adams
3:48
I think either Taylor Trammell (Reds) or Drew Waters (Braves) would be a perfectly reasonable ask as a headliner if the Jays were to package the two

Is the Phillies season done?
Steve Adams
3:49
Tied for a Wild Card spot, but they need to add some pitching help and get several of their current bats on track if they have any hope of holding onto it. Injuries have been brutal in Philly this season.
Rob Manfred

Is the single trade deadline good for baseball? Seems like all the excitement is going to occur during those last 5-7 days in July.
Steve Adams
3:51
That's been the case for the past few years anyway. I'd hoped it'd change this season with the single deadline, but there are just so many teams within striking distance of a wild card spot.

I think that'll continue to be the case so long as there are a few all-out tanking clubs in each league. It's too easy for even a mediocre club to just pound on the Marlins, Orioles, etc. and hover around the .500 mark

Sam Tuivailala just came off the IL and will probably pitch tonight. Is there enough time for him to attract a potential buyer? Given Seattle's need for infielders and Boston's need for relievers, I've wondered if a swap for Bobby Dalbeck might make sense.
Steve Adams
3:53
Tuivailala may have enough time to attract interested parties, but he only brought a low-level relief prospect back to the Cardinals last summer even when his value was at a high point. I can't see Boston sending Dalbec to Seattle
Billy Eppler
3:53
Should I buy or sell?
Steve Adams
3:55
(That'd be Angels GM Billy Eppler)

I don't think the Halos have all that much to sell (Trout/Ohtani excluded, of course, and we know that's not happening).

Their most appealing pieces are controlled longer-term, and the short-term options they have aren't playing that well. Maybe they could deal Kole Calhoun? I suppose if they want to do something more dramatic, Andrelton has only one year left on his deal. I think they should be open to both of those things, but that hasn't been their MO in recent years.

Hi Steve. Will the Indians be buyers or sellers or both? Thanks.
Steve Adams
3:56
I fully expect them to listen to offers on Bauer and think there's a decent chance he's traded for some MLB-ready help. Could turn around and add a reliever or even a cheaper 5th SP with some of the money they saved.

% that Bumgarner pulls an Aroldis and re-signs with the team that just traded him?
Steve Adams
3:58
While the Giants are surely enjoying the hot streaks from Alex Dickerson and Austin Slater, unsustainable as they likely are, I doubt the front office has deviated from its long-term outlook. And if that's the case, they're not going to be offering top dollar to win a Bumgarner bidding war.

What do you believe the Cubs would have to give up for Castellanos?
Steve Adams
3:59
The D-backs gave three middling prospects who weren't even ranked at the top of a bad farm system to rent JD Martinez two summers ago. Castellanos won't cost that much to acquire (much to the dismay of Detroit fans)

What do the Twins have to give up to get Giles and Stroman
Steve Adams
4:00
I assume they're not amenable to moving either Royce Lewis or Alex Kirilloff, which would mean someone like Trevor Larnach, Brusdar Graterol or Jordan Balazovic needs to headline a deal. And if they're not moving one of their top two prospects, they may need to include two of that group plus some lesser-regarded pieces.
Cole to the Sox
4:01
Is it time to start the Gerrit Cole to the White Sox train for next year?
Steve Adams
4:02
I expect the Sox to make an aggressive push for him, but we'll see. They've never successfully signed a free agent of that caliber. Tim Dierkes always likes to point out the bad blood between owner Jerry Reinsdorf and Scott Boras, too, which could be a factor.
Vinny
4:03
do you think Wheeler's trade value went down now that he's on IL?
Steve Adams
4:03
Absolutely. Still think he'll be moved as long as he is healthy by July 31.

Should the Rangers go for it this year if they can stay within 3 or 4 games of the WC at the end of July?  Or sell high on Minor?  I know some Rangers beat writers are saying the Rangers should hold on to Minor, thoughts>
Steve Adams
4:05
They're six over .500 with a +22 run differential. I think they owe it to fans to go for it, myself. Trading Minor right now would be a dagger to the hearts of so many fans, and their Wild Card aspirations are legitimate.
Trade?
4:07
Joe Panik for Jorge Soler?
Steve Adams
4:07
Panik is only controlled through 2020 and is playing more like a non-tender candidate than a trade chip. What's the Royals' motivation for making that deal?
Jeff
4:08
Do you think Colome/Bummer could get Drew Waters from ATL?
Steve Adams
4:09
I don't really consider Alex Colome's value to be all that high. He's riding one of the smallest BABIPs I can recall seeing, his strikeout rate has dropped to its lowest level in years, and he's going to earn $10MM+ next year in arbitration.
Steve
4:10
Can the Astros activate Peacock then place him back on the IL in order to call up Sneed or Urquidy who were sent down less than 10 days ago.
Steve Adams
4:10
Nope
Loren
4:11
Could Luis Urias be kept in the minors as the centerpiece of some big trade the Padres are thinking of making?
Steve Adams
4:11
I don't see why keeping him in the minors would be related to his trade candidacy. I can't see them moving him. But, as I said before, I'm at a loss for any good reason to keep him there.
