Bryan Reynolds and Cole Tucker for Brad Hand?
Steve Adams
3:04
Think you're underselling Hand's value there.

Are the dodgers garunteed to get Machado?
Steve Adams
3:06
The teams haven't announced anything, so no -- until that happens, things can always change. That's why yesterday's "handshake agreement" report with the Phillies seemed so absurd. Are the Orioles just cutting off negotiations 36 hours early?

"Sorry Dodgers, we won't take Verdugo, Alvarez and Lux because we already have this handshake with the Phils." (Obviously Dodgers wouldn't offer that, just using it for effect)
Didn't make any sense

Is the manny machado  is it going to happen today
Steve Adams
3:07
It won't be announced today. There's no firm rules on not announcing something the day of the All-Star Game, but the league likes the focus to be on the ASG. I'd imagine something will be announced tomorrow.

Why would the Orioles be satisfied with Diaz when they really need young (or any) pitching?
Steve Adams
3:08
It's not going to be a 1-for-1 swap. And they have other avenues to get pitching. At the end of the day, they should be trying to get as much overall talent as possible, regardless of position.

With Milwaukee not getting Machado what will be their Plan B?
Steve Adams
3:10
IF they don't get him -- again, nothing set in stone yet -- I can see them going after Eduardo Escobar or Asdrubal Cabrera fairly aggressively

Does Alex Cobb have any trade value?
Steve Adams
3:11
Does "negative value" count as a viable answer? No one is touching that deal. I still can't believe he got that contract.

3:11
Who do you think is a good fit for the Yankees at the deadline for the pitching staff?
Steve Adams
3:13
Tyson Ross is a nice fit -- could combo him up with one of the relievers, maybe (Yates). Wouldn't mind seeing them take another run back at Eovaldi. I don't think they're going to make some crazy deal for deGrom or anything so guessing they'll look at some more mid-range guys with more reasonable costs of acquisition.
3:14
Ross would be nice because if he's not in the postseason rotation, he's an absolute buzzsaw against RHB out of the bullpen (.168/.256/.316)

It’s obvious Texas is in rebuild mode. I don’t think they get much for the vets like Hamels, Choo, or Beltre. Could they possibly trade a shortstop in Andrus or Profar and get a significant return?
Steve Adams
3:17
Andrus' opt-out makes it tougher to assess his value. The final four years and $58MM seemed low enough for him to opt out headed into the season, but he's not hitting much at all right now. If he's going to forgo the opt-out, then the value there is non-existent.

I think Profar has significantly boosted his value since the offseason by hitting competently, but he's not performing at a star level. He'd be maybe their best asset, but I don't know that they'll tear down to the point where they're moving controllable guys
Keone Kela is another I could see getting a decent return -- and I think they'd be much likelier to part with him.

3:18
Hypothetically, could Nick Senzel, Robert Stephenson, Tony Santillan, and Stuart Fairchild get the Reds Syndergaard in an offseason trade?
Steve Adams
3:18
Putting Senzel in a trade is going to get any club to consider virtually anything. I wouldn't agree with the Reds going that route necessarily, but even with his season-ending injury, Senzel's going to make anyone think

3:19
Once Manny Machado Extravaganza is over, will I find myself playing for one of the runners up?
Steve Adams
3:20
Possibly, but the Twins have won 9 of 11 games and are "only" 7.5 games out of the division. That's not exactly close, of course, but it's close to being close -- if that makes sense.

I doubt they'd sell off much if they were, say, 4.5 games out of the division lead. It's not outlandish to think they could make up three games or so in the next couple weeks and decide to make a few modest additions

please tell me this machado saga will be over in 24 hrs. can u imagine if this went on for 2 more weeks?
Steve Adams
3:21
This isn't even bad. Remember Masahiro Tanaka's free agency?
Kap
3:21
Top 15 prospect from a team for Harvey???
Steve Adams
3:22
Can't really answer that definitively since it depends on the team. A top 15 prospect from the Yankees is a lot different than one from the Mariners, for instance.

I don't think they're going to get a huge return for him, but some B-level prospect seems plausible, sure. It'll be more than a warm body anyway, and that's a win in and of itself, since his value was in the gutter when they acquired him.

3:24
If you're Dave Dombrowski, what are you realistically looking to get done in the coming weeks?
Steve Adams
3:25
Adding a reliever to strengthen the bullpen, perhaps looking at a low-priced starter to deepen the back of the rotation given the injuries they've had. They're right up against the $237MM luxury line, at which point their top 2018 draft pick would be dropped 10 spots, so I'm sure they want to avoid that

3:26
Will Samardzija be traded?
Steve Adams
3:26
Not with a pair of DL stints and the remainder of that contract. Time to pull that off was last winter or in the offseason
Harper By The Bay
3:27
The Giants clearly want to stay under the luxary tax number which is why they traded Austin Jackson and Gearrin. Sounds like they are preparing for a huge run at Bryce Harpor this offseason. They were will to take on almost all of Stanton's money this past winter so I gotta believe they are willing to give Harper 300+MM. Agree or disagree and why please?
Steve Adams
3:28
I think they can afford to do so. Doesn't mean he'll sign there, but I agree that they have the means to do so and are likely to pursue the possibility.

Are the cards really going to trade Carlos Martinez doesn’t make sense to me to trade away an ace with five years left on a team friendly deal?
Steve Adams
3:31
I don't think they will, but it's a situation similar to the one the Mets are in where it's sort of "Why not see what someone will offer?" It doesn't hurt to see if someone will blow you away.

But unless they're concerned about his arm holding up after the lat strain or think the control issues he had earlier this season are a portent for future struggles, there's no reason for them to really shop him.

3:31
Will Eovaldi get moved? Where might he go?
Steve Adams
3:32
As long as he's not on the DL he'll be moved. Yankees, Mariners, Phillies, A's, Dodgers, Braves -- lots of teams will be interested in an affordable rental with a decent track record and a strong 2018 performance (outside of the one recent hiccup against Minnesota)

3:33
how much of an impact do you think there would be on major league stats if sabermetrics like WAR or UZR were invented in the 1980s instead of the early 2000s? what if WAR was invented in the dead ball era when Ruth played? nowadays players are doing everything they can to increase their WAR, differently than they used to play the game.
Steve Adams
3:34
I don't think they're doing everything to increase their WAR. I think a lot of players don't know or care about their WAR. But they're trying to hit for more power, draw more walks and (for pitchers) miss more bats, because those metrics and that data proves to translate to wins on the field, and since that's what teams are looking for, that's what gets players paid.
