Someday, a team will make an actual move. I think.
In the meantime, I suppose we'll keep talking about all the things that haven't happened. Huzzah.

What do you see the cubs doing at the trade deadline ?
Steve Adams
3:02
Adding a cheap-ish lefty reliever (Elias?) and picking up a bat in the Jarrod Dyson mold. I doubt they pay for Castellanos' salary, and an OF with him, Schwarber and Heyward in CF is pretty grim from a defensive standpoint.

3:02
Pirates trade anyone outside of pending FAs?
Steve Adams
3:03
I don't expect them to, unless they're just furious with Kela over whatever he did. Huntington has been as direct as possible that he has no intent to deal Vazquez, and he's pretty open about his desire to compete in 2020 as well.
Bobby Higginson
3:04
Any scuttlebutt on Tigers moves not involving the big three?
Steve Adams
3:05
Thought it was interesting that Jim Salisbury from NBC Sports Philadelphia reported that the Phils and Tigers had talked about Daniel Norris, too. Detroit would obviously be selling low, but he's a guy with multiple years of control and a huge former prospect pedigree. Someone could give Detroit something of moderate interest

Russell seems to be bringing the team down. Is it time to cut ties?
Steve Adams
3:06
The time to cut ties with him was damn near a year ago at this point

Any actual takers for Whit Merrifield?
Steve Adams
3:07
You make it sound as though they're shopping him/trying to give him away. Every team in the league should want that player and that contract, but I have a hard time seeing a club realistically offering enough to make Dayton Moore and the KC front office even think about it.
The time is now!
3:08
No reason for the Twins to wait a week, right?  Division lead has gone from 13 to 3 in a hurry.  Make a move now for bullpen help!  Especially the way the last couple weeks has gone.
Steve Adams
3:10
It takes two sides to make a trade. You're basically imploring them to overpay because the gap between them and Cleveland predictably shrunk. Cleveland has been hammering the Royals, Tigers, Blue Jays and Orioles -- as they should. The Twins' recent schedule has been much more difficult. Starting in August, that'll flip.

I'm not saying they shouldn't make a move, because the need for 'pen help has been apparent since Opening Day, but no one should ever have expected a 11-game lead to hold, either.

Don't think KC trades Whit; how about Diekman or Kennedy?
Steve Adams
3:12
Diekman is one of the 5 likeliest trade candidates in baseball.

Kennedy will depend on how much cash KC is willing to include, but the interest should be there. He's been legitimately good out of the 'pen -- he's just overpaid.

What relievers can the Dodgers get without trading Gaxin Lux, Will Smith, Dustin May, or Keibert Ruiz?
Steve Adams
3:14
Most of the relievers on the market should be available without having to include one of those four. Maybe not SF's Will Smith (if he's moved), or Kirby Yates or Ken Giles -- but beyond that, they should be able to pick from a wide range of options.

Jose Abreu still with the team after July 31st?
Steve Adams
3:14
Yeah, and I think they'll re-sign/extend him as well.

While it's probably not sustainable, it's been fun to watch the Giants the last month. Do you think keeping Madbum and trading some relievers could be a happy medium of selling/but trying to stay competitive? And do you think a Madbum QO has more value than potential trade offers?
Steve Adams
3:20
I don't think a Bumgarner QO would match what he'd fetch in a trade, and I don't see a point in taking a half measure like trading relievers but keeping him.

I touched on this last week: the Giants need 85 wins just to get to the lowest win total a team has ever had in landing the second Wild Card spot. That means playing at 34-27 from here on out -- and more realistically playing closer to 36-25 or 37-24.

If the front office believes that possible, then hey, go for it. I'm not buying it with that a patchwork lineup that's headlined by Alex Dickerson, Mike Yastrzemski, Donovan Solano and Austin Slater.
3:21
The Giants have five regulars with a BABIP north of .380 in this hot stretch. It's a fun time for fans, but I don't see them doing anything close to this over another two months.

I was just DFA, where am I likely to end up?
Steve Adams
3:22
Either back in Buffalo after clearing waivers or maybe getting a look with a rebuilding club like the Orioles, Tigers or Marlins.

Why Braves fans wanna get rid of Snit?I think he's done great job.
Steve Adams
3:24
I feel like most fanbases think their manager is a bumbling idiot who is the sole cause of any wrongs that befall the club. Comes with the territory of being a manager. It took Red Sox fans, what? Three months to turn on Cora after a World Series win?

Any team Shane Greene could be dealt to and remain the closer?   Philadelphia?  others?
Steve Adams
3:25
Rays maybe? Red Sox, A's, Braves perhaps.
Phillies, like you said.

3:26
I have a feeling Pads go after Merrifield and trade Urias for a SP. WHAT SAY YOU?!
Steve Adams
3:26
If they were to go for Merrifield, the Royals would be asking for Urias as part of that deal, too.
Trey Mancini
3:26
Where could I end up? Who for?
Steve Adams
3:27
I think he stays put, personally
Giants
3:28
A reliever for Kieboom is an obvious no, but a reliever+5-10 team level prospect get it done?
Steve Adams
3:28
I don't think the Nationals would trade Carter Kieboom for any of the Giants' relievers.
Frank
3:28
Will Stroman get traded before July 31st? If so where will he end up?
Steve Adams
3:29
I think he's the single most likely player to be traded at this point. As for where -- the Blue Jays don't even know the answer to that yet. Yankees, Twins, Astros, Braves, Cardinals, Phillies, Brewers all make varying degrees of sense.

What will the orioles get rid of in trades?
Steve Adams
3:31
I expect them to move Mychal Givens and Jonathan Villar. Beyond that it might be a quiet week in Baltimore.
