It's only a "win-win" if you're counting both of those wins for the Orioles.

How long do you see this rebuild taking in Detroit and is Al Avila doing as bad a job as it looks to us Tiger fans? I mean it's pretty easy to get a decent prospect pitching 1st overall 2 outta 3 years but he drafts awful and his FA signings (Zimmerman, Mercer, Avilas, etc) have been awful too! Your thoughts?

Mark Appel was the No. 1 pick in the draft -- picking first or second guarantees nothing.

I think the trade returns they've gotten have proven to be poor, but they've picked up some good talent in the draft in recent years. And you can point to Burrows or Faedo maybe being regrettable first-round picks, but they also got Skubal in the ninth I believe. Every team has drafts hits/misses; it's a crap shoot.

With Torkelson, Greene, Mize/Manning/Skubal and plenty of other interesting guys bubbling up in the farm -- plus another crop of young players when they inevitably trade Boyd -- I could see the Tigers being pretty interesting by 2022.

The 2021 Blue Jays are going to be legit contenders.  Agree?

It's not out of the question. Real excited to watch Pearson's debut tomorrow, myself.

This year's trade deadline is Aug 31 and since there will be 16 PO teams I really do not expect trades. Do you expect any teams to trade before deadline?
Steve Adams
4:53
There'll be some clubs who are still clearly out of the race, and they'll have rental pieces and guys only controlled another year or two to market. And teams on the fringe will still shuffle some players -- particularly those with maybe 1.5 seasons of control left. I don't know that it'll be a star-studded deadline, but playoff expansion won't completely kill off any and all action.

should I be panicked after this start? Also should the Red Sox be looking to sell early given their rotation and the lack of other teams being willing to part with talent? Seems like we could corner the trade market this year!

is the DH around to stay now?
Steve Adams
4:57
I'm not sure what there is to panic over -- the team made clear it wasn't prioritizing 2020 wins when it traded Betts/Price. They might as well try to see if there's interest in short-term assets.
I expect that if it's not around in 2021, it'll be bargained into the next CBA anyway.

Should the Cubs be concerned about Kimbrel and that bullpen?
Steve Adams

I'd say yes, but that issue dates back to last summer. Ownership didn't really give Epstein, Hoyer & Co. anything to work with to improve the 'pen (or much of anything else) this winter.

Start Mejia at catcher and finally see what we got in the Brad Hand trade or keep on with this platoon charade with my .170 hitting defense first and only catcher Hedges?
Steve Adams
5:01
I get the love for Hedges' glove, but I'm pretty surprised that the Padres haven't given Mejia a more prominent role by now. It seems they regularly try to build guys up -- Urias, Franchy, for instance -- and then quickly lose faith.

Do i ask for a trade this winter? Or Do I opt out?
Steve Adams
5:02
Arenado's opt-out is after the 2021 season -- not this coming winter.
And I expect his name will be all over the rumor mill

i really want the a’s to put barreto at second for a couple weeks playing everyday and see what he can do. he really hasnt gotten an extended look while being able to adjust, and the rest of the a’s lineup is good enough to pick up the slack if he struggles. why do they insist on playing tony kemp?
Steve Adams
5:04
The Barreto thing reminds me of Luis Urias in San Diego. Barreto isn't as highly regarded nationally, but he's long ranked as one of their better prospects but hasn't gotten the chance. I feel like if they thought he was a viable everyday option at 2B, he'd have gotten that chance by now. I do wonder if he ends up as a change-of-scenery candidate.

David Fletcher reminds me of J.Altuve.  Think he’s an underrated future star.
Steve Adams

He's underrated for sure, but if you're expecting him to blow up to Altuve levels of production, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. I'd say enjoy him for who he is -- he's already quite good!
Ok, I have to wrap this up for the week. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve. Connor will chat tomorrow night. Thanks everyone and enjoy your week!
