What is a realistic extension for Matt Chapman?
Steve Adams
1:27
He'll be looking for a nine-figure deal again this offseason, and justifiably so. I think if you get into the 110-125 range over five years (total, not on top of his existing deal), you're in the ballpark.

Do you see the Giants signing Elias Diaz to help with their offensive woes from their catchers?
Steve Adams
1:29
The defensive downgrade from Bailey to Diaz is steep, and when you factor  in the ballparks, Diaz isn't really even a much better hitter. Plus, Diaz has been just as bad lately (.196/.250/.268 since the ASG)

Do you think a team should sign Barry Bonds to a 1 day contract to restart his HOF clock?
Steve Adams
1:30
I think a team should sign Bonds for one day just because I've love to watch 60-year-old Barry Bonds try to hit a home run.
Might be able to do it

Padres:  Do you think Profar just keeps signing with SD?  He seems to have found some magic there.  And do you think that Kyle Higashioka can get a 2 year deal?  He is having a good year, but turns 35 next year.
Steve Adams
1:31
Padres and Profar (or Profar and Preller, I guess) seem like a match made in heaven. I think he'll stay there yeah

Can the Twins survive with 3 rookies in the rotation?
Steve Adams
1:33
It's not ideal, but I like Festa and Matthews both quite a bit and they don't have a super intimidating finish to the season on their schedule with remaining series against the Angels, Marlins and some struggling clubs in the NL Wild Card scene (Cards, Reds). They're also only 2.5 back in the division... wouldn't surprise me to see any of MIN, KC or CLE win the Central at this point.

Did Brandon Belt retire?
Steve Adams
1:34
Hasn't filed any paperwork

Is Corey Seager a future HOFer? I wouldn’t have thought so when he was with the Dodgers, but I’m feeling like he is if he has 3 more great years
Steve Adams
1:35
Depends on health, but I've thought he's on that trajectory since early in his career, so long as he can have the longevity. If he retired tomorrow, no I doubt he gets in, but lots of years left for him.

Like it really matters, who will be the Cubs new closer ?
Steve Adams
1:36
They probably won't name a dedicated one at this point but I guess Jorge Lopez or Porter Hodge if I have to pick one guy

Has my second half struggles cost me my big payday?
Steve Adams
1:38
He's had three "bad" starts since the ASG. That's not going to matter. If he completely faceplanted down the stretch and was showing a fastball that was down 2-3 mph, then maybe, but I still have him around $150MM or so

The Cubs are so annoyingly mediocre. What should they do?

1:39
Do we have a real chance to sign Soto or Burnes?
Steve Adams
1:42
Remember that they're the Chicago Cubs, they play at Wrigley Field, have their own TV network and basically print money -- and go sign Juan Soto.

But they're not going to do that. Sahadev Sharma with The Athletic is already writing about how the Cubs aren't going to be players for Soto or Burnes this winter, citing sources familiar with their thinking. (Presumably then, they're not going to play for Snell or Fried either.)

So... I don't know. The Cubs seem hell bent on spending decent money on mid-range players but averting the risk of a full-fledged albatross. There's no reason they shouldn't have pursued the hell out of Bryce Harper, but they didn't. There's no reason they shouldn't go all out for Soto, but it sounds like they won't.

"Annoyingly mediocre" is a good way to describe them for their fans, I imagine. I'm not annoyed by their mediocrity, as I'm not a Cubs fan, but it sure seems fitting to me.

How much better would bostons record be if they had not traded chris sale? Everything else being the same
Steve Adams
1:44
5-7 extra wins? That trade has been a disaster, although in Boston's defense, No one could've seen this type of Sale renaissance coming. Even the Braves have to be stunned by both the quantity and quality of his workload.

Can bobby witt jr get even better? If he cuts down on caught stealings and takes a few more walks, there’s almost nothing he’s even just okay at
Steve Adams

BWJ is a baseball psychopath. It's incredible to me that he's having THIS good of a season and isn't the runaway AL MVP favorite. But ... Aaron Judge is also a baseball psychopath, so. There you go.

Two outrageously good seasons. Hell, Soto and Gunnar Henderson would be MVP favorites in the NL and they're barely even in the AL discussion right now because of those two maniacs.

Can you see the Guardians shopping one of Cade Smith/Hunter Gaddis for prospective starting SS's or deeper SP candidates?
Steve Adams
1:47
I don't think you're going to get many teams willing to give up a starting-caliber SS for a reliever, even a good one like Cade Smith. I'd just move Gimenez to SS and fill 2B internally or via free agency/trade. It's always easier to find a second baseman, and Gimenez is an elite defender at 2B who's looked great every time he's slotted over on the other side of the bag.

Steve Adams

He already signed with the Red Sox

Mets or Mariner's better?

Mets at this point

Any chance new deals for Snell and Chapman happen before end of season
Steve Adams
1:50
I doubt it. Part of the reason the Giants are perpetually signing free agents to these opt-out deals every winter is their reluctance to ever commit long-term to a player. They're so beholden to financial flexibility with the (kind of head-scratching) exception of Jung Hoo Lee. (I assume they just love Lee and felt like the contract would be a bargain)
AJ Puk
1:50
Did the A's finally win a trade with Bledday?
Steve Adams
1:51
Puk has a 1.82 ERA, 30 K% and 5 BB% since moving back to the bullpen. He's really, really good. The Marlins just whiffed on the attempt to try him as a SP
1:52
I think Puk/Bleday is just a deal that'll work out fine for both teams. Two good players If you prefer the position player with more team control, that's totally defensible, but I don't think it's a heist for either side right now.
