Any thoughts on the Kinsler situation and did the punishment fit the crime?

I'm a little torn because it was honestly refreshing to me to see some honesty, but you also don't want players feeling like they can mouth off however they see fit to umpires. Ultimately, umps have a ridiculously hard job, and while Angel Hernandez genuinely doesn't appear to be good at his (and loves to call attention to himself), there are plenty of umps out there busting their ass and doing a good job. I'd hate to see this snowball, and while I don't think there's necessarily a risk of that yet, there's always a first step.

As for the $10K fine, I realize that it's steep relative to other league-imposed fines on players, but Kinsler makes 6x than that in a single day. I don't see it as a major deterrent

Sure I think there's a chance, especially with Harper down for awhile, but it'll be a close race with that pair, Rendon, Seager, Goldschmidt, Scherzer, Votto.... lots of names in play

I'm of the mind that the playoffs should have zero impact on a player winning an individual award, so if Stanton continues this preposterous pace, sure he should be right in there, too.

I don't think Hernandez is going to end up being the difference between them making the postseason, and there's no way he could've known they'd rattle off a winning streak of that nature with all the pitching injuries they've had.

I'm thinking Flores could hit 20 homers if the Mets would just send him out there every day. What do you think?

He's at 15 this season and hit 16 in both 2015 and 2016. I don't think it's a bold prediction to say he could hit 20 -- I think it's an unequivocal fact. He's probably a 25-homer guy if they give him 150 starts, but that'd be accompanied by a .300ish OBP and some lackluster defense wherever he settled in.

Someone from the D-backs (I think Hazen, but not 100% sure off the top of my head) said earlier this summer that they still see him as a SP long-term. I don't think he'll start again this year, though, no.

They've moved everything of value at this point. If they move someone like Gonzalez or Holland, it'll be a salary dump.

I've gotten tons of questions with Astros, Dodgers, Cubs and others all slotting into this question..... I don't think Verlander is getting traded, no.
Possible, of course. Likely... no. I'd be pretty stunned if he ends up moving this month. Maybe in the offseason.
