Can u tell the hosts on your sister site, "HoopsRumors.com" to host some chats like these ones over there?
Steve Adams
3:38
They've done them in the past. Maybe they'll bring them back when the season gets underway? Not sure. I can certainly ask my colleague (but not relative), Luke Adams, who runs that site about the possibility

3:38
Twins call up slegers soon? He's having a great season in AAA, twins need quality pitching
Steve Adams
3:39
He already made his MLB debut last week! He'll be up when the rosters expand on Sept. 1, if not sooner.
Sean
3:39
Bold prediction. Joey Gallo will have a higher batting average next year than Aaron Judge. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
3:39
I think that is indeed bold. And also inaccurate. But to each his own!
Brian
3:39
Does asdrubal Cabreras option remain if he is traded, if do
Steve Adams
3:40
Yes, his option will remain part of the contract. The acquiring team would be responsible for the $2MM buyout as well as the remainder of this year's salary, unless the Mets include some cash. But, I don't think a one-year, $8.5MM deal for Cabrera is a bad rate.
Especially since he's already guaranteed $2MM via the buyout... you're making a one-year, $6.5MM decision on him, in effect, and that's perfectly reasonable

Do you think Adam Lind has earned a full time FAcontract?
Steve Adams
3:42
He's only been allowed to face a left-handed pitcher 19 times this season. I don't think any team is going to sign him and just give him 600+ PAs next year, no.
Mike Bee
3:42
Do you see Heyward opting out next year assuming his play this year is the same next?
Steve Adams
3:43
He hasn't hit anywhere near well enough in 2017 to justify a 2018 opt-out (assuming the same production). He'd need a significant step forward at the plate in 2018 for it to even be a consideration.
3:44
As it stands, I can't fathom him opting out right now. But, he's 28 and has been a considerably above-average bat before... if he can find a way to post a 130 wRC+ and hit 30 bombs next year or something, sure, maybe. The glove is still great.

3:45
Since Reds can't trust Reed or Garrett to hold does a rotation spot at least next year, who would be a good dependable vet to fill out the rotation?
Steve Adams
3:47
Not exciting, but they could just re-sign Feldman. He fit in well there, succeeded there... if they're convinced that the knee will be good to go next spring, bringing him back makes some sense. Otherwise, if you just want innings... Hellickson? Chacin? Nolasco?
RHYS
3:47
Hoskins the real deal?
Steve Adams
3:48
I'd keep him out of the outfield and just put him at 1B over Tommy Joseph already, but I think he's going to hit, yeah.
Homer in 10% of his PAs like he currently has... not so much. But 30+ HR with a quality OBP? That seems doable.
Kyle
3:49
so the Rockies have enough gas to get into the  WC playoffs?
Steve Adams
3:52
I've said all year that I'm really not sold on their pitching. Kudos to them for being in the driver's seat this late in the season, but I have less confidence in them holding that spot than in any of the other three WC holders at present.

In their favor, they do have a combined 15 remaining games against the Padres and Giants. But they also draw the Dodgers and D-backs seven times apiece.

Can you see the qualifying offer system, as it is now, becoming out of control in the not-so-far-away future? The QO's set to be around $18.1M this offseason, but with the "greatest offseason/free agency period ever" coming up after next season, could you see it getting to ~$25M by the time the current CBA runs out? The top-125 AAV's on contracts are only gonna get higher, and once all these great free agents hit the hot stove, who knows where the QO system could go.
Steve Adams
3:55
It depends on how you define "out of control." The whole point of the system was to allow only top-tier players to receive QOs and be weighed down by draft pick compensation. In that sense, the league and union may say it's doing its job as the total of the offer rises.

I don't think it's a perfect system, but I don't think any means of tying free agency to the draft will ever be without its flaws, either. I'd still just like to separate the two entirely.
3:56
Also, I don't think we'll see it rise to $25MM+ by the end of the current CBA, though it'll probably come within a million or two of that mark.

3:56
Thoughts on Carson Fulmer? Is he legit?
Steve Adams
3:57
Legit how? He's pitched poorly in AAA this season and was absolutely mauled by a Sano-less Twins lineup yesterday in his season debut. There were tons of scouting reports pegging him as a reliever heading into the draft, and that could be where he's headed.
Braves Phanatic
3:57
Why aren't draft picks tradeable? I know every team has a bunch of minor leaguers to trade but I feel like high picks are more intriguing than 22-24 year olds still in A ball or something.
Steve Adams
3:58
I wish I had an answer. I think it's probably done as a means of "ensuring competitive balance," so that teams like the Dodgers and Yankees can't "buy" too many top picks in trades, but I think they should absolutely be tradeable. It makes even less sense to me that Comp Balance picks are tradeable but no other selection is.

D-backs injury news from beat writer extraordinaire Nick Piecoro:
Nick Piecoro @nickpiecoro
Dbacks' Jeff Mathis has an avulsion fracture in his right hand -- i.e., the ligament came off the bone, pulling fragments of bone with it.
In a word: ouch.

Who do the Angels target in the offseason?  I'd have to think that 2b and 3b are the top of the list.
Steve Adams
4:01
They have so many areas to target, but yeah those are both on the list. Left field, bullpen, rotation depth -- it'll be a busy winter for Eppler & Co.
Pine Tar
4:01
CC gets 3 year deal in 2018.
Steve Adams
4:02
If he'd pitched a full, reasonably effective season maybe that's a possibility (though I still wouldn't have called it likely).

I'd say two is his ceiling this winter.

4:02
Yu darvish to the twins this offseason? Get a true ace, plus young guys coming up. And don't forget santana...
Steve Adams
4:04
I wouldn't set your sights that high. Thad Levine basically said on Darren Wolfson's podcast at 1500 ESPN last week that he doesn't think they're going to be massive free agency players -- that's par for the course in MN anyhow, and Minnesota might be a tough sell for Darvish.

They may look to add a starter, but they're probably also dreaming on the possibility of running out Ervin, Berrios, Stephen Gonsalves, Fernando Romero and Adalberto Mejia in the near future. They may very well add some veteran depth to that mix, but I don't think it'll be anyone near Darvish's caliber.

What will atlanta braves do for catchers next year. Do you see them bringing flowers and suzuki back next year or keeping one and bring up a young catcher or shop FA.
Steve Adams
4:06
Flowers is a lock to be back. That $4MM club option is among the easiest calls in baseball this offseason.
4:07
From there, I'd imagine they'll do what they did this past winter. Be opportunistic, wait out the market and see who kind of falls through the cracks to serve as a complement to Flowers. A reunion with Suzuki is certainly possible, but they're probably not going to want to go multiple years

Do the Nats trade for Britton in the offseason
