Three and a half years younger and in his first AAA stint

Chances the Twins give a qualifying offers to S. Gray and K. Maeda?
Steve Adams
1:29
Gray is a lock. Doubt it very much with Maeda.

If I keep up this pace, do I have a shot at MVP?
Steve Adams
1:30
I don't see how anyone overtakes Ohtani, even though he's done pitching. Season is just too remarkable.

Donaldson back to Toronto to man 3B until Chapman returns? Goes to the bench as a RH bat off the bench?
Steve Adams
1:32
He's hitting .142/.225/.434 and has been out since mid-July with a calf injury. Nothing about what he's  done this year makes him seem like a better option than Davis Schneider, Addison Barger or Orelvis Martinez

We're seeing the importance of a deep bullpen more than ever this year (out of the 17 teams with the best bullpen ERAs, 14 are either in playoff position or fewer than three games out). With that in mind, who are likely to be some of the best bargain options, either in free agency or via trade, for teams who need to add a few cheap but potentially high-leverage arms to the bullpen?
Steve Adams
1:37
Depends on your definition of "cheap," I suppose, but I like Robert Stephenson and Phil Maton as underrated guys who don't get the attention they deserve. Injury reclamations of interest include Jimmy Nelson, Blake Treinen, Drew Pomeranz, though you're looking at long shots with any of those three
Craning for a repeat
1:38
Will Brantley improve the Astros enough to make them the AL favorite?
Steve Adams
1:40
I think anything you get from Brantley is a bonus at this point. He's one of the most underrated hitters of this generation but it's been more than a year since he faced Major League pitching. Hopeful he comes back and plays his way into a deal next year, because I love watching him hit, but it's hard to say with any certainty that he'll have an impact. He's hit well in AAA, but we're talking 27 plate appearances during his current rehab stint.

Jays will have an update today but nothing yet

Does Cody Bellinger have Comeback Player of the Year abou locked up in the NL?
Steve Adams

I would imagine so

Did Josh ask for his release? Does he still stay on the 60 day DL if someone picks him up?
Steve Adams
1:43
He won't stay on the 60-day IL if released, no. If he's healthy -- Mark Feinsand from MLB.com just tweeted that he is -- he could jump right onto another roster once he clears release waivers tomorrow. Of course, that'd take another team wanting to give him a 40-man spot.

1:44
Doo the Braves pick up Eddie Rosario's $9M option for 2024?
Steve Adams
1:48
I lean slightly toward no, but wouldn't be surprised. It's borderline right now -- a $9MM option with no buyout. He's had two great months at the plate and three terrible ones. He's a notoriously up-and-down hitter with a strong throwing arm but generally poor grades in the outfield due to some, um, adventurous route-taking.

Braves could go Acuna-Harris in RF/CF and free agent/trade acquisition/Vaughn Grissom in LF next year.

We'll see how Eddie finishes. He's obviously raking right now, and if he keeps anything close to this pace up they'll probably just keep him. But if he has another slump in the offing, it's not that painful to move on.
Relief
1:49
Are there any external names the Orioles might target for relief help or is it too late?
Steve Adams
1:51
They could claim Adam Kolarek or pick up one of the recently released guys around the league (Amir Garrett, Dennis Santana), but there's no obvious bullpen upgrade for them to make at this point
Acuna Attacked
1:51
Why would Rockies fans attack Acuna of all players? They don't even play in the same division. I would've guessed it more likely to happen to a Dodger or at least some western division player.
Steve Adams
1:52
I don't think they really attacked him. Hard to say what they were thinking. The first guy ran onto the field and basically bear-hugged him. It was a weird scene, and thankfully, it seems like they didn't have any truly malicious intent, because the first fan got to Acuna well ahead of security.
Curious
1:53
If the Nats are looking for another Jayson Werth-style, year-too-early FA signing, who would the candidates be?
Steve Adams
1:55
I don't think that's necessary at this point. The Werth deal was kind of the Nationals' first declaration that they were willing to spend money and moving toward a win-now mode. Everyone already knows the Nats can and will spend now, and the expectation is this is a hopefully short-term rebuild as opposed to some return to a decade-plus of irrelevance in the standings.

That said, if you want to jump the market and add someone now who can help when the farm starts churning out players, it's best to go after someone who's young for a free agent. Bellinger and Julio Urias are the youngest free agents of note

If the Mets do trade Alonso this off-season then do you think they trade Lindor too
Steve Adams
1:58
I doubt they could find a taker for Lindor's deal even if they wanted to. They signed him to a massive extension and basically paid him open-market money to do so. The two youngest seasons of his contract are now off the books and he's owed another $288MM over the next nine years. Lindor is still a very good player, but I doubt anyone's taking on that deal and simultaneously surrendering quality young talent.

Looking at the Phillies organization, in 2024 would you rather give Nola the Rodon money or Lorenzen the Walker money?
Steve Adams
2:00
Yikes. I'd probably shy away from both, but I do think both are potentially in that general vicinity. I'd take Nola, even with this year's struggles, I suppose. Lorenzen doesn't really miss many bats, he's still giving up a lot of hard contact, and we've never seen him work a full starter's slate of innings.

What do we need this off-season?
Steve Adams
2:00
Starting pitching, and a whole lot of it

2:00
Any chance I could move Stanton if I get Hal to eat 1/2 to 2/3 of the salary and attach a decent prospect?
Steve Adams
2:03
He's owed $128MM over the next four years. Eating half of the contract still means the acquiring team is paying 4/64 for someone who's batted .207/.291/.451 since 2022.

Even eating two-thirds of the deal and parting ways with a prospect doesn't feel like enough -- plus Stanton has a no-trade clause and pretty famously shut out the Cardinals and Giants as options before approving the deal to the Yankees
I know there's been all kinds of speculation about a Stanton trade, but it's basically just that -- (wishful) speculation. I don't see any way a trade actually comes together.
Giant Gonzales
2:04
Follow up to the Verdugo extension, he gets traded out of Boston this offseason right? There's been 3 incidents where Cora has publicly called him out, and a combination of Yoshida/Duran/Rafaela/Refsnyder/Abreu seems fine for next year while you see what/when Bleis and Anthony can contribute to the big league team.
Steve Adams
2:04
I think there's a pretty decent chance he's flipped this winter, yeah. Especially with only one year to go and a thin market of free-agent hitters, he'll draw interest
2:05
Astros just reinstated Brantley from the 60-day IL

Who is the most disappointing team this season: 1) Angels, 2) Padres, 3) Mets, 4) Yankees, or 5) other? Why?
