Maybe some coaching changes, but the front office and Baldelli will be safe. I know fans are upset with how this year's season has gone -- I live in Minnesota -- but the overall good this front office has done has outweighed the bad. The Twins got back to playoff contention in relatively short order, and they've made plenty of solid acquisitions along the way. Plus, Jim Pohlad seems pretty loyal to his hires.

Will Mets re-sign Stroman?  He’s their only reliable pitcher (DeGrom included).
Steve Adams
2:42
He'll be among the best-compensated pitchers of the offseason, even if he doesn't re-sign there. I don't want to speculate too heavily, because we can't know what's going on in a player's head or within the clubhouse, but while the players seem to all have one another's back, it sure seems, from a distance, like there's some frustration with the negative framing of their slide in the standings and the reaction from the fans.

More broadly, I just think there will be teams more motivated to spend heavily on starting pitching. The Mets will have deGrom, Walker and Carrasco back. Like you said, it hasn't been a reliable bunch necessarily, but it's already a fairly expensive trio and a better starting point than most clubs have,.

I want the juiced ball back. The good pitchers shined through that obstacle. As a Twins fan I liked the Bomba Squad. I feel like my fan hood is waining when they constantly change things year to year. Figure it out and stick with it MLB. I for one like consistency. What say you?
Steve Adams
2:44
The juiced ball was out of hand, for me, but your point on consistency is a good one. It's insane that the ball changes every year right now. The pitchers who were in the Olympics all raved about the pretacked ball. Joe Ryan and Scott Kazmir said it's the best ball they've ever used. Even hitters were praising it. Adopt the pre-tacked ball, move past the ridiculous Spider Tack drama, and just have some year-to-year consistency for everyone.

Postseason Roster Rules & Eligibility
Definition
In a typical season, any player who is on the 40-man roster or 60-day injured list as of 11:59 p.m. ET on Aug. 31 is eligible for the postseason.
Steve Adams
2:45
That's from MLB.com's glossary, yes. Read the next paragraph.
2:46
A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.
2:47
Teams wouldn't be acquiring all these non-40-man guys if they weren't able to be added at all. They're insurance for injured players, and it's not hard at all for a player to be added if he wasn't on the 40-man on Sept. 1. We see players added under those circumstances every season.
Nationals Park
2:48
Going to Nationals Park next week---tickets available everywhere----best place to sit?
Steve Adams
2:51
One of the parks I've never been to, sadly. I got tickets to an NLDS game out there against the Dodgers years ago when I lived out east, and the game was rained out.... even though there was no rain. Jeff Todd (of MLBTR fame) and I were going to hit the game together but the postponement threw our plans for a loop and we weren't able to make it work to attend the game the rescheduled game. Frustrating. Still want to get to Nats Park, but I'll defer this one to the crowd here.

Any Nats fans (or those who've been to the park) care to offer a suggestion for where to sit?
GM
2:51
If Jewel and Meisenger are on the playoff roster, the Dodgers are in big trouble.
Steve Adams
2:52
There is also this, yes. Haha. Although with the Dodgers, who knows... one of them will probably rattle off 17 shutout innings with 29 K's and 2 walks in September/October.
Jeimer Candelario
2:53
I feel like I am a very underrated player. Am i in the castellanos situation in where I will play better out of Detroit?
Steve Adams
2:55
Certainly been underrated since the beginning of the 2020 season. Castellanos was a better hitter with the Tigers than Candelario though -- or at least he had more power. Candelario walks more, but I don't think the offensive ceiling there is as high as Castellanos'.
Kershaw
2:55
Hey I'm a FA to be as well! But you left me off the list because I'm going to resign with the Dodgers right?
Steve Adams
2:55
Ha, I left him off because there are too many good pitchers to remember, but yeah I think re-signing in LA is likeliest for him.
Reds fan
2:56
Who plays ss for the Reds next year?
Steve Adams
2:56
I know it's a deep free agent class, but it's hard for me not to say just give Jose Barrero a chance.
Tommy
2:56
Who will the Dodgers resign this offfseason
Steve Adams
2:59
Kershaw is the likeliest of the bunch. Adding Trea Turner makes me less optimistic they'll pay to retain Seager. Max Scherzer will be high on their list of targets and he had a clear preference to be out West. I'd say Kershaw likeliest, followed by Scherzer. Chris Taylor has been a great bargain for them, but I think he'll find better offers from teams with more obvious starting opportunities available.
CHISOX FAN

With the strength of the Sox roster, what do you see them doing in the off-season?
Steve Adams
3:00
Try to re-sign Rodon, try to dump the last year of Keuchel's contract, poke around the 2B market. (Hernandez is a fine option, but he's cheap enough that he could move to a utility role ... they could also just decline his option, knowing the market for 2B help is always flooded)
Nats Park
3:01
For at least an inning head to upper deck to view the Capitol and city.   After you get used to breathing up there just venture for different views.   Decent, yet not spectacular park.
Steve Adams

(For the previous person asking about Nats Park)
Valentino El Povolone
3:02
Ohtani is the the eventual 2021 AL MVP right? I see no other contenders considering his unique skills on both sides of the ball. I really don't see another contender.
Steve Adams
3:02
Yeah I think he'll win it.

How many years does Lester have left in the tank?
Steve Adams
3:04
We've seen crazier returns to form in the past -- Rich Hill at, what, 38 years old and being out of the league for several years? -- but Lester hasn't looked like he has a ton left  even over his past two seasons.

Trading Rizzo hurt, but am I wrong for thinking the Cubs weren't out of their minds trading Baez, Bryant, and others. I just believe had Baez and Bryant hit consistently, the Cubs would have paid up (at least for one of them).
Steve Adams
3:07
It's been obvious since the offseason that the Cubs were going to break up this core. Trading them made sense in the context of what they were doing, but the team acting like it had no choice but to sell was nonsensical; the pieces for a contending club were there, but ownership seemed to have little interest in spending to make it happen. That's been the approach for several offseasons now.

I don't think, based on the manner ownership has acted in recent years, that an extension for any of the bunch was ever on the table unless it was a well below-market deal.

Any chance Jose Abreu can finish his career strongly and sneak into the HOF?  I know he started his MLB career real late, but he shows no real signs of slowing down yet, and he has some good hardware with the ROY and last year's MVP.
Steve Adams
3:09
He's in the mid-20s for career WAR and has counting stats that are well shy of your average Hall of Famer. He'll play next season at 35. If he can play into his 40s and keep raking, it's not out of the question, but I'd call it a sizable long shot right now. If he had another five years of this on his resume by the time he was 34-35, as you alluded to, we'd probably be talking about his chances quite differently.
Guardians
3:09
How far out of contention are we, really? Is 2022 lost already?
Steve Adams
3:11
Bieber, Civale, McKenzie, Plesac, plenty of other young arms... Jose Ramirez, Franmil Reyes, several interesting young bats on the rise, a generally weak division... I don't think next season is lost, no.
Tommy
3:11
Corey to the Rangers next year?
Steve Adams
3:11
Dunno about Seager specifically but I think the Rangers will pursue some of the top shortstops out there, yeah.
Andrelton Simmons
3:12
Has my performance this year played me out of the big leagues next year?
Steve Adams
3:12
Guy can still pick it at shortstop. He'll have a job -- probably on another (cheaper) one-year deal.
3:13
I've been wondering if the Twins would put Simmons on waivers at the end of the month and if another team would claim him just for the glove.
