Yeli and his team will probably miss the playoffs....who else besides Bellinger stands in Freeman’s way for the mvp
Steve Adams
3:54
Freeman's not even clearly the most valuable all-around player on his own team (Acuna).
3:55
And the Brewers missing the playoffs shouldn't hamper Yelich's MVP candidacy. It's Yelich or Bellinger right now, and the rest of the league isn't all that close.
Angels
3:56
Can the Angels make a run at gerrit Cole
Steve Adams
3:56
I expect them to try in the offseason, just as they did with Corbin this past winter.
Jonny
3:56
Would you expect Miggy or Pujols to be on waivers right about now?
Steve Adams
3:56
No
3:58
They'd clear in a heartbeat, and it's not like revocable waivers in the past where those players stay on the roster once they clear and are now eligible to be traded.

If their teams wanted them gone, they'd just release them. That hasn't happened (and won't). The only players going through outright waivers right now are ones who won't be a part of next year's club for their current team and have some chance of having their remaining salary picked up.

Any team desperate enough to take Will Myers on waivers?
Steve Adams
4:00
Nope.
Bob Loblaw
4:00
If Graterol's rehab continues well, might we see him added to the 25 man on/before 8/31 to qualify for the postseason? Power arm in the pen that no one has seen would be very valuable come October.
Steve Adams
4:00
Does't need to be on the 25-man roster by 8/31. Just in the organization.

Luis Robert makes his MLB debut in September. Odds?
Steve Adams
4:01
White Sox kept Eloy down last year. Probably the same fate for Robert.
Giants just DFA'ed Joe Panik
Going to get a headline on that up on the site quick -- one min.

say a team has an injury now. They call a team with a player they need and tell them, hey DFA that player, we will claim, your will save the money, and we will send your future considerations at a later time. Possible? Thanks
Steve Adams
4:06
There's no guarantee the other teams in front of them with higher waiver priorities wouldn't claim the guy.
4:07
Obvious circumvention of the new August trade restrictions aren't going to be allowed by the league.
Phillies Fan
4:09
After 3 unsuccessful years of poor trade, bad free agent signings, inept draft selections (sans Bohm) , poor onfield play, not to mention a complete lack of deadline maneuvers, is this the offseason where the Phillies realize they made poor choices in McPhail and Klentak and clean house?
Steve Adams
4:09
They extended Klentak like 5 months ago.
Drew
4:10
If Cueto does come back and resembles his former self, do the Giants make the wild card?
Steve Adams
4:10
I don't think they have the offense to get there.
Jon
4:10
Any chance the red sox add to their bullpen with sipp or barck?
Steve Adams
4:11
I suppose, but then you're just hoping a change of scenery helps a guy who hasn't been any good this season. It's not like adding Sipp or Brach is a clear upgrade over internal options.
Brewers
4:11
Would the brewers claim Jonathan Lucroy to bring a fan favorite back home and keep him from going to the Cubs
Steve Adams
4:12
Doubt they're spending $1MM+ just to keep him from the Cubs. Lucroy hasn't been particularly good for a few years now... from a pure performance standpoint, I doubt they care if he lands in Chicago. Claiming him would also mean either carrying three catchers or DFA'ing a really strong defensive catcher (Pina).

In short -- I don't think that's happening, no.
Ross Atkins
4:14
Is Bo Bichette’s hot start for real?
Steve Adams
4:16
I mean, he's not going to hit .400+. But he's been regarded as one of the best prospects in all of baseball for quite some time, he more than held his own as a 21-year-old in Triple-A and a 20-year-old in Double-A ... I don't see any reason to think he's not an above-average big league hitter right now, and I think he has some All-Star seasons in the future.

Which White Sox prospects do you see debuting and contributing in 2020? Robert and Madrigal?
Steve Adams
4:18
Yeah I think both are up in 2020. Kopech will be back obviously. Maybe Gavin Sheets, though he's not in that tier of prospects.
Adam Silver
4:19
Current playoff structure: success or failure? What would you do to reform it if anything?
Steve Adams
4:19
I'd rather see the Wild Card be a multi-game series -- at least three games.
Joe Panick
4:20
Do the Mets pick me up now that Cano is out and I've been DFAed?
Steve Adams
4:20
Possible, but it's not like Panik has played well this season. Or in 2018 for that matter.
Better off finding an OF and just playing McNeil back at 2B.
4:22
Alright -- I've got to wrap up for the week. You can ask me more stuff on Twitter (@Adams_Steve). I'll be off next Tuesday, so I'll try to do a chat later in the week. Thanks for joining, as always. Enjoy your week!
