Then adding on, think Gilbert is still attainable?  Something like gorman, burleson, hjerpe, carlson?
Steve Adams
1:41
I never really thought Gilbert was attainable and don't think he'll be traded this winter.
The Cardinals wanting him and showing interest in him is a different thing than the Mariners giving actual credence to the possibility of trading him.

They might very well try again this offseason, but I think the price would be through the roof and doubt the Cardinals would meet it.

How likely is a Corbin Burnes trade this off-season?
Steve Adams
1:44
Flip a coin? Slightly greater than that? I doubt the Brewers will be afraid to just ride out his team control and take the draft pick for him when he inevitably signs a deal they don't want to match.

There will be plenty of talk about it this winter, but Milwaukee is in good position to contend next year as well, so I wouldn't consider it a lock. I hate putting numbers on these things because it's all guesswork, but I suppose that mess of word soup equates to me thinking something like 55-45 or 60-40 in favor of him changing hands -- likely for some immediate MLB talent.

Santana Teliez Donaldson and now Ruf. Who will be on the post season roster?  They can’t all be carried can they?
Steve Adams
1:47
Tellez has just been bad this year. Unless he's a pure LH bench bat, I don't think you carry him. Santana over Tellez, and then whichever of Ruf/Donaldson hits well against lefties down the stretch, I suppose. Donaldson seems likelier since he can play third base at a quality level still, and Ruf's only just beginning a rehab stint.
Yankees just announced they claimed Luke Weaver from the Mariners
Cortes to the 60-day IL to make roster space

Who do you think is the most underrated player in the game?
Steve Adams
1:48
I would need more time to think this through, but I was literally thinking like three hours ago about how underrated Cal Raleigh is.
So, he's one of them for me, most likely.

Hi, how much do you expect Lourdes Gurriel Jr will receive in free agency this year?   Is he eligible for a qualifying offer?   Thanks Tim
Steve Adams
1:51
He's eligible for a QO but I'd be pretty stunned if Arizona made one and would fully expect him to accept if they did.

Gurriel has cooled after his blistering start to the season, and even then he was pretty much a LF-only with shaky OBP skills because he doesn't really walk.

He'll get a multi-year deal but I'd be surprised at anything more than three years (and I wouldn't even want to offer him that myself, but it's a thin market for bats and some team will probably do it).
1:52
Sorry had to answer a phone call quickly there. Back at it now

Do you expect the Braves to non-tender Soroka? He seems to have fallen out of favor and his injury record doesn't bode well for another contract. Also, will Eddie Rosario be back in left field next season?
Steve Adams
1:55
I think the biggest thing working against him will be a lack of minor league options. Braves would have to carry him on the active roster next year, and he just hasn't been healthy enough or productive enough for a win-now team to do that with confidence. He won't earn much more than $3MM though, so I could see him having trade value to a team that's not in "World Series or bust" mode like Atlanta is.

Rosario doesn't have a skill set that I love (swing-happy, low walk rates, perennially mediocre OBPs), but he's basically the same guy as when they re-signed him for 2/18, and the market's thin on bats. Picking him up at $9MM feels like a decent enough value.

1:56
Do I pitch in 2024 for the Jays, Bisons, or some other team?
Steve Adams
1:57
I've probably gotten 30 Manoah questions, ha. I don't have any more insight into that particular situation than anyone else; I can easily see them making him available on the trade market, but I have no idea how an acquiring team could feel good about giving up quality talent -- just like I have no clue how the Jays could justify selling him for pennies on the dollar when he's a year removed from a third-place Cy Young finish.

It's a really crappy situation for them, and I don't think anyone knows quite how it'll play out in the end.

Does Votto’s option get picked up?
Steve Adams
1:58
I lean toward no, based on the glut of infielders they have. I could see them buying it out and trying to re-sign him at a lower price.

I expect both Manaea and Conforto to pick up their 2024 options. But does that, in any way, preclude the Giants from dealing them this off season?
Steve Adams
1:59
It does not. And I think there's at least a chance Conforto declines his and looks for multiple years (albeit at a lower AAV than the $18MM on his remaining one year)

After the disaster this year, where do the Padres go from here?
Steve Adams
2:01
They're basically just been barreling ahead in full-on "win now" mode. I imagine that'll continue. They'll need to add pitching, and the market has a lot of it.

do the Giants have enough payroll space to acquire both Ohtani and Yamamoto while staying under the lux tax?
Steve Adams
2:03
They're more than $100MM under the tax line right now, so yeah. Doesn't mean I think it's likely they'll do that, haha, but in theory it's possible they could add that pair and then some. Arb class isn't huge, though Yaz will get some pretty decent money

When a player who is out of options gets traded, does the receiving team absorb that obstacle? Or do the options start over?
Steve Adams
2:03
Still out of options on the new team

Why don't teams put players that are going to be out for the rest year on the 60-day IL sooner? Seems like the Yankees would want to utilize the extra 40-man roster spot but still have Jasson Dominguez on the 10-day IL.
Steve Adams
2:07
They just generally make the moves as needs arise. If they select a pitcher to the 40-man immediately and then the next day figure out they're going to be down a catcher or two for a few days, then they just have to make another 40-man move. Same if they fill that spot with an outfielder, and then their SP the next day leaves after two batters, they burn through their bullpen, and want to call up a fresh arm who's on full rest.

There's no harm in keeping Dominguez on the 10-day IL until you know what you're going to need that spot for.

Am I still a Giant next season?
Steve Adams
2:07
I think there's a pretty decent chance he's traded this offseason

What should we expect from PCA?
Steve Adams
2:08
For now, I'd just expect elite glovework and value on the bases. Anything you get offensively is a bonus, but he's 21 and making the jump to the Majors after about 30 AAA games, so it's pretty understandable if the bat isn't there yet.
