Two weeks until the postseason begins! That was fast.
Let us discuss the game of baseball and other topics that I deem interesting to our collective hearts' content!
Straw man

Realmuto to the mets...pretty much assumed?
Steve Adams
2:08
Seems like a real good way to set yourself up for disappointment.

Not saying JTR to the Mets is implausible -- just that expecting any one player will land with any one team is generally a bad route to go. You pretty much always take the field versus the one team -- unless we're talking a Rivera, Jeter, Papi, etc. situation

Bauer, Hendricks and Realmuto sign with Angels in offseason. Is it
Steve Adams
2:10
File this under an even more aggressive means of setting yourself up for disappointment!

And no, I don't think that is particularly plausible given that the Halos already have $118MM on next year's books and are paying Trout+Rendon $35MM annually through 2026.

So the first round of playoffs will be played home field?
Steve Adams
2:10
Seems to be the plan, yes.

Did someone not tell Roberts what happened to the Rangers after Woodward spoke out and took offense to a Padres homerun?
Steve Adams
2:12
I'm ready for all teams and managers to just stop whining when someone celebrates a homer. Grisham looked into his own dugout and yelled to his own teammates ... it's not like he flipped the bat with one hand and flipped Kersh the bird with other.
Yankees just activated Giancarlo from the IL

Why do the Astros get to host part of the playoffs? They should be banned from them completely!
Steve Adams
2:14
Can they really be "hosting" them when it's the NLDS (not ALDS) being played there without fans?
Todd
2:14
Will the NL DH remain permanently?
Steve Adams
2:14
I think so, yeah.

Bauer to White Sox makes too much sense. He's toast with Reds, right?
Steve Adams
2:16
Bauer makes sense on any contender. He's an elite pitcher who has insisted repeatedly that he's going to take mercenary style one-year deals for his whole career. He fits on literally any contender.

I don't see any reason to think he's "toast" in Cincinnati. He's pitched well there this year, knows the guys, works well with Kyle Boddy, whom the Reds hired from Driveline, etc.

Would appreciate your input on a service time issue. Kieboom was sent down for 10 days. So he has, at most, 57 days on the 25 man roster in 2020. Is it correct that each day is 2.8 days? If so, this year he gets 57*2.8=159.6. He had 12 last year. So a total of 171.6. So unless they round up, he does not get a year, correct?
Steve Adams
2:17
Every day this year is roughly 2.77, so that leaves him comfortably shy -- assuming the rest of your math on his time in the Majors checks out. I haven't looked at it closely, but it's interesting that it's so borderline. I'll check it out after the chat

This crusty old NL guy admits the DH isn't that bad (having Ozuna didn't hurt), but please tell me the ridiculous extra innings rule is one and done.
Steve Adams
2:18
Yeah I think that's a 2020-only thing for now

The lack of off days during this year’s playoffs would seem to favor clubs with quality rotations.  Who do you like under those circumstances?
Steve Adams
2:21
Favors teams with deep pitching staffs in general. Clubs never had to worry about pitching a guy 3 days in a row under normal structure with baked-in travel days. Now they can't ride their dominant 'pen arms as hard.

I think the Dodgers and Reds rotations would be particularly imposing, if healthy, but Cincinnati needs to get there first. Ditto the Indians.

What do you like more? 7 inning double headers or the extra inning rule?
Steve Adams
2:21
Can I choose neither? Ha. I'd say 7-inning twin bills, but I don't particularly care for either.
2:22
Better weird bizarro 2020 rule?

7-inning doubleheaders (69.7% | 320 votes)

Extra innings baserunning shenanigans (30.3% | 139 votes)

Has everyone been in vaca so I’ve been stuck with the brunt of the live chat workload?
Steve Adams
2:23
Ha, I did take some vacation in recent weeks which has stuck Mark with more chats, yes.

Do the reds have a shot to bring back Bauer?
Steve Adams
2:23
As I alluded to earlier, no reason they shouldn't. They have $102MM on next year's books -- plenty of room to bring him back.
Mets
2:24
who do you think that the mets will go after this offseason?
Steve Adams
2:26
I imagine that with Cohen taking over, they'll be linked to all of the big names to create excitement, even if the interest isn't that serious. Every agency is going to use the Mets to try to make their guys feel in demand.

As for who they'll actually try to sign? I'd expect Realmuto, maybe Springer, Bauer.
Twins
2:26
We stood pat at the deadline. Mistake or nah? Pitching seemed like a priority.
Steve Adams
2:27
Thought they could've added a bullpen arm -- never can be too deep there. But there wasn't a SP out there they felt they could acquire who would be good enough to push one of Maeda, Berrios, Pineda out of a playoff rotation spot, and they were going to get to the playoffs with or without an addition, so passing on a starter didn't surprise me too much.

Since Semien is having such a down year, is there a good chance a contract for him becomes affordable enough for the A's to swing? Or do you think they'll look for other "buy low" options? If Semien is out, would like to see them pair Simmons' defense with Chapman's on the left side of the infield.
Steve Adams
2:29
I think the two sides line up well if Semien wants a one-year, make-good type of contract

Do you like the padres or white Sox more for the postseason?
