do you expect Gabe Kapler to be fired? after thats a HUGE drop from ;ast year
Steve Adams
11:48
No. I think fans have much, much shorter leashes on managers and front office personnel than owners do. I'd be shocked if they fired Kapler.

Can 2022 end with a better fairy tale conclusion than Pujols 700, he and Yadi retire, Goldschmidt wins MVP, and Cards win WS?   I think not.
Steve Adams
11:50
Wainwright could announce he's coming back for one more year? Arenado could publicly declare he'll forgo the opt-out right after your hypothetical World Series win? Lars Nootbar could sign a 12-year, $12MM extension? Haha.

I think the scenario you laid out is about as good as it could get for Cardinals fans, and it's not impossible!

11:50
Are you worried about the Mariners? Or are you more of the "get in and anything can happen" mindset?
Steve Adams
11:51
Get in and anything can happen. Always.

11:52
With the ray, Castillo, Rodriguez signings, do the mariners have money to spend?
Steve Adams
11:53
They have $90.5MM on the books in 2023, $101MM in 2024, $92MM in 2025 and $82MM in 2026. Next year's arb class has plenty of names but few actually meaningful salaries (and several non-tender candidates). They can absolutely spend. I doubt they're penciling in a $38MM annual salary for Judge or anything, but yeah they'll have money to make the team better.

Is Adam Wainwright a Hall of Famer?
Steve Adams
11:55
I think he should be, but he's probably a borderline case for more than a few voters.
Not Jed Hoyer
11:56
Should we go with FA/trades to find our next 1B, or do we give Magic Mervis a shot?
Steve Adams
11:57
It can be both. Matt Mervis has had a huge year between A+, AA and AAA for the Cubs, and while he's never really ranked as a prospect of note, it's hard to ignore .310/.380/.610 and 36 homers.

The Cubs don't have much at 1B or DH -- you can non-tender Franmil -- so there's room to give Mervis an earnest shot at one of those spots while also bringing in a free agent or trade acquisition.

Are you a movie or show guy?
Steve Adams
11:57
Shows and long, story-driven video games. Movies are too short!
ROTY 2023
11:58
This years Harris/Strider debate will be next years Henderson/Rodriguez debate. You heard it here first
Steve Adams
11:58
Certainly could be, but GrayRod already had the lat strain and I tend to operate under the  assumption that every pitching prospect is just going to break.
Jean Segura
11:59
I assume the Phillies decline my option.  Possible landing spots for 2023?
Steve Adams
12:02
Yeah. Segura is a good hitter and a good overall player, but the market isn't super kind to non-star, 2B-only free agents. I don't think anyone's going to view him as a shortstop.

White Sox, Orioles (they have a lot of INF prospects but kept inexplicably playing Odor this year), back to the M's, Cubs, Tigers to name a few sensible enough landing spots. Nice player but likelier to get like 2/17 than the one-year, $17MM price of his option.

12:03
Why am I not the favorite for AL ROTY?  Do the voters look at anything besides power numbers?
Steve Adams
12:05
You make it sound as though the gap in power between Kwan and J-Rod/Adley is small. It's not:

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0...

Julio and Adley are the two favorites because they've been better at most things than Kwan. I love Kwan, and the bat-to-ball skills are awesome. They're just not as awesome as the all-around offensive contributions from Rodriguez and from Rutschman, who both play more premium defensive positions.

I wouldn't get caught up in the award voting so much as the fact that, "Hey, Cleveland controls Kwan for five more seasons and that is awesome."

If the Giants should be lucky enough to Sign Aaron Judge wouldn't he receive the Bonds treatment and get walked. What do you think they can do?
Steve Adams
12:06
He's not getting that treatment in New York, even though he should be.

Besides Verlander, what other AL CY candidates would need to faceplant in order to open the door for Cease?  Just about any statistical analysis puts him pretty squarely ahead of Manoah, Ohtani, etc.
Steve Adams
12:08
Yeah, it basically is just Verlander at this point. McClanahan has kind of already faceplanted with the injury and a pair of ugly starts.

checking the Jays contracts it seems they only have 2 free agents....who is likely to get traded or designated for assignment to make room in the off season  enjoy your day
Steve Adams
12:13
They have three... Stripling, Phelps, JBJ are all coming off the 40-man -- but one of their spots will go to Nate Pearson. Some easy trade/DFA/non-tender candidates are Tapia, Zimmer, Griffin, Hatch, Kay... one of the catchers could be traded.

why have the pirates retained their manager in spite of the teams worsening record each year
Steve Adams
12:13
They're not even trying to win right now, so Shelton's not going to be judged based on the team's record.
12:14
