Alderson telling reporters right now that Conforto recovery timeline is "roughly six months"

Moustakas to the Angels seems like a good fit on paper.. can they do it if Upton decides to stay or is it not possible to have both contracts on the books?
Steve Adams
3:49
I'd need a longer look than the 30 seconds I just took glancing at their payroll outlook, but I think it'd be tough to field a competent rotation with both Moose and Upton on the books. (If they're serious about staying under the luxury tax barrier, that is)

Moose getting a 5/90 deal?
Steve Adams
3:49
That's my current projection yeah

How about that guy JD Martinez!!!

Dude can hit some homers

Hi Steve, with the Rockies wasting their opportunity for playoffs, should the resign Lucroy?
Steve Adams
3:51
I don't really see how the two are especially related. But the Rockies need to do something behind the plate (well, they needed to last offseason), and re-signing Lucroy is a better option than sticking in house with Wolters/Murphy again. His complete dearth of power in 2017 is worrisome, though, and there'll be other options on the market

Holland to the Padres next year?
Derek hoolland that is
Steve Adams
3:53
I can see that, yeah. They'll probably add at least two starters to soak up some innings behind Perdomo, Lamet and Wood.
Jays
3:54
Was this year somewhat a fluke/injuries really screwed us.. and we'll be back in contention next year with our window seemingly closing after that? Please say yes
Steve Adams
3:55
I think the Jays are a much better team than they've played as in 2017. Healthier Sanchez, Happ, Donaldson and hopefully Travis (though who knows with him) in 2018 will go a long way toward them contending again. I think they can and will be better, yes

What is a realistic SP signing for the Twins this offseason?  We know Darvish/Arrieta is not.
Steve Adams
3:58
They could go into that second tier of free agents and sign an Alex Cobb or Lance Lynn, though not sure they'll feel a definitive need to go that big. Santana and Berrios are the only true locks, but Gibson has been much better lately and may be saving himself from a non-tender. And they have Mejia, Gonsalves, Romero, Slegers and others as potential cheap options to help fill things out.

That may be enough to dissuade them from going 4 years on a starter, but we haven't really seen too much from the new front office yet, so it's tough to know whether they'll make sweeping changes now that they've been in place for a year and have a better feel for the system.

Can the Phillies get ANYthing for Rupp? It should be Alfaro and Knapp next year.
Steve Adams
3:59
I'd imagine they can get some modest trade interest in him this winter. Could also just simply non-tender him if they want to go with the kids behind the dish.

But seriously, how many more PAs would Delmonico need (at something close to his current pace) to be a serious AL ROY contender?
Steve Adams
4:00
He'd need another 300+ in a year that doesn't also include Aaron Judge.

Markakis for darren O'Day this off season? almost same money and two pretty meh players but meets a need for both teams.
Steve Adams
4:03
I don't think the O's would feel that Markakis makes them any better, and players like him abound in free agency. They're better off hoping O'Day recaptures some of his previous form.

Do you see any of Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, or Lorenzo Cain accepting a qualifying offer.  If not, Hos and Moose are gone, but could you see Cain resigning with the Royals.
Steve Adams
4:03
In my view, it's an insta-reject for all three. Each will crush that in free agency.
4:04
Cain, maybe, but they got burned when they re-signed Gordon at 4/72, and Lorenzo could very well command something similar.
Your favorite?
4:05
Steve, as a Minnesota native, what do/did you like most about the Minnesota State Fair: Everything on a stick, including Deep-Fried Teriyaki; All-You-Can-Drink Milk, All Day, for One Dollar; or (my fave) the Enormous Rotating  Butter Sculptures of the Heads of 8 Regional Dairy Princesses?
Steve Adams
4:05
Cheese curds and Sweet Martha's cookies. I miss the MN State Fair. Some friends back home this year tell me they had duck bacon wontons :(
Kyle
4:06
do the Rockies have a chance of keeping Holland?
Steve Adams
4:06
If they want to pony up and pay him on a 3- or 4-year deal, sure. But he hasn't been very good since May
Johnson
4:06
Are you in favor of a new September 40-man system?
Steve Adams
4:07
I agree that it's silly to expand MLB rosters by an extra 15 slots for the final month of the season, but I don't have an immediate proposition/alternative prepared.
give him some love
4:07
"Burned" with Gordon at 4/72, seriously?  Good average, great steals, adequate glove.  I think a lot of teams would take him at that contract.
Steve Adams
4:08
Alex Gordon is hitting .209/.297/.334 since signing that contract. He has been unequivocally terrible.

That said, I thought it was a really nice value at the time of the contract. He was so, so good up through 2015.
detroit is not cleveland
4:09
Does Detroit Pick up Kinsler's option, (I think they do), and if so do they trade him, and have to eat 3-5 million to get a decent prospect (I think they do). Thoughts?
Steve Adams
4:09
Yes they'll pick it up. I don't think they'll need to eat money to get a decent prospect, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did pay him down a bit to slightly enhance the return.

When are the next free agent power rankings?
Steve Adams
4:11
I'll have to check in with Tim on that, since that series is his. I'd imagine we'll do one more before the actual Top 50 rankings in the offseason.

Any word on the Dbacks looking to extend JD?
Steve Adams
4:13
I don't see how they can feasibly do so if they hope to keep their payroll anywhere near its current levels. They have an enormous arbitration class with Pollock, Corbin, Ray, Owings, Lamb, Delgado, Walker, Peralta -- plus $30MM+ to Greinke and $15MM or so to Tomas on that terrible contract.
