It was never Metcalf's strength. Meanwhile, Darnell Washington is the perfect player for such a target. I don't get why they keep forcing it to Metcalf.

Every week Warren balls out. Now Dowdle is following suit. Can McCarthy and Rogers adapt and realize this team is capable of operating in smashmouth mode?  They seem stubborn to force passes. Which is odd since we don’t really have any pure wide receivers on the team currently😂

There's got to be a balance somewhere. I get the challenge to figure out when and how to use the passing attack, but I do think McCarthy gets in his own way when it makes sense to run it -- like in the red zone.

Will DK be on the team next year? At this point its like he's stealing money.  Not only is he not even close to living up to his contract but if it wasn't for his brand, he'd have been cut earlier in the year, last year even. He's costing them yards and its just a matter of time before its becomes games.  That drop that led to an interception should have been the last straw. I get he's got a long leash but c'mon. This is not just the yips.  He's just bad. Why Rogers keeps throwing him those fades time after time the never work is criminal.

Because of the contract restructuring, letting go of or trading away Metcalf wouldn't free up any significant cap space until 2028, and even then, there'd still be signiifcant dead cap money.

Thanks for the chats, Christopher.  The run defense, and the D-line play in specific looks fantastic. A big change from early season games. And doing it without Harmon. To what do you attribute the turnaround? Talent? Coaching? Scheme?
Christopher Carter
3:24
Thanks for being here!

I think the maturation of Keeanu Benton plays a big factor, and him not having to play the nose. So it's a mix of coaching and maturity. But this group was starting to show that last year too. They shut down Jonathan Taylor then, as well as Jahmyr Gibbs and a number of other run games.

Hi, Now that the offense is working, I rembeded Matt Canada, how unfair was the front office to ask him to produce a good offense with mid to bottom of the pile QBs in Trubiskey, Pickett and Trubiskey?
Christopher Carter
3:28
It's kind of wild to think about this team winning as many games as it did with that QB situation and how bad that offensive line was at the time while that rebuild was going on. But somehow they made a way.

Hi Chris.  I love the film cuts you do.   This is not so much a question as a request.  Would you please post some of the trap plays that were so effective against the Brownies?
Christopher Carter
3:30
I've been told we need to limit the amount of film studies I do so I've had to pick and choose what to focus on with that. Since I wrote about trap runs postgame I proably won't be able to write about that that specifically for a film study unless it continues into future games.

But I would say to look back at the 51-yard run and a few other explosive runs and you'll be able to see the impact.

Who do you see at the top of the AFC and how do you think the Steelers match-up against them?
Christopher Carter
3:34
Bills.

I actually think they would be a fascinating matchup considering their dominance in the run game. The way they use Allen and Cook would be a unique challenge.

Combined with an efficient passing attack, I think that would be the Steelers' undoing as their balance would overwhelm them. Their run defense would be good enough to limit the Steelers' run game.

Hi Chris, thank you for the chats. Is there a reason Warren is not consistently getting the ball inside the 10. It seems like he is the 10-10 guy, then Dowdle comes in. In the one disaster series, he was given the ball on third down, and got crushed. Thank you.
Christopher Carter
3:41
Hello and thanks for being here!

I just see them as trying to create some success in different areas so that they don't become too reliant on the run. But at some point. It's a tough balance that's not easy, as they'll need that passing attack to work at some point. But it certainly causes problems.

Mr Gerry says Steelers are not in the trade market.   Mr Ray says they are.    Break the PG tie— are they seriously in the market and if so, what specifically?  ( everyone talks about WR, but if Pittman and Wilson are coming back….)   Thanks.
Christopher Carter
3:43
Ha. I'll do it this way.

The Steelers are in the trade market, BUT not in the way that they are willing to throw around a big piece. I think they're shopping to see what a day 3 pick could get them. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd say they don't make a significant move before the deadline. But that doesn't mean they're not shopping.

Looking at the second half schedule at this point, it does not look nearly as tough as it did before the season started.  Three tough games: Bengals, Denver and Jags.  Four games against teams that are not very good: Eagles, Texans, Panthers and Titans.  And two with a Ravens team that might be starting an undrafted FA QB.  Smells like 5-6 wins is very doable, maybe even 7.  What is your projection for how we do the remainder of the season?
Christopher Carter
3:46
I would not sleep on the Texans just yet. They still have the talent to be a problem. Call me superstitious, but there's a weird part of me that whatever the Philadelphia curse is for this franchse will find a way to impact things. They haven't won there since the 60s and even though this Eagles team stinks, I feel off about this team playing there. On a talent evaluation, they should win though.

Could this be the year the Steelers finally win in Philly?
Christopher Carter

This guy gets it. They need to make it that. Tanner McKee has not played well and that team is in disarray.

Hey Chris, now that the team sits at 6-2 at the bye, what is your estimated final regular season record?
Christopher Carter

People said I was crazy when I predicted 11-6, but I'm sticking to it.

Just an overdue comment. You do a really solid, in-depth job of covering Pittsburgh sports. I have become a loyal reader. Keep up the good work.

I was actually going to ask a question for this chat today knowing you're the 1st one to chat since why was the Pitt article you wrote yesterday morning I believe why didn't it mention the bowl eligiblity like the Trib and other articles I noticed yesterday during the Steeler game that clinched bowl eligibility on Halloween Night
Christopher Carter
3:52
Particularly because I was on deadline after late game and had to be back at the stadium shortly after and there was a follow-up article on the state of the team that was going to address their bowl eligibility.

Also, bowl eligibility just doesn't mean what it used to in today's college football world.
Alright, gotta get to work on Stars and Skulls grades. That'll be up in the morning. Thanks everyone for being here!
