Like when the offensive line gets two injuries and they have a guy stashed there who can fill two positions in an emergency. Or a linebacker who's not that great but can help on special teams, or a defensive back who can do the same.

While yes, they could keep four quarterbacks. Managing a roster mid-season and dealing with injuries throughout can be a tricky ordeal and every extra spot can be valuable.

Chris what do you think about the draft pick of Eli heindenrich i think that was a good pick Go Steelers
Christopher Carter

I liked Eli when I watched what he did at Navy and think it's a perfect fit in the seventh round. If he doesn't work out, that's fine because 7th round picks rarely do. But he has good speed, athleticism, and seems to be a good character prospect to bring in.

Hi Christopher. Thanks for the time and the chat.  Saw that they didn't pick up Jones' 5th year option. Understand there is uncertainty with health but thought they might take the $20M gamble and use him as trade bait to move up next year if he proves to be healthy and productive and Max lives up to expectations.

Hello! And thanks for being here!

I think if Jones had continued the trend of play he'd been on for more than a month before his injury, he would've finished the season strong and been a strong candidate for that 5th year option.

But I think the biggest thing they're worried about is if the injury pushes back his recovery time and he's not ready to be at full strength this season.

Hi Chris, glad the chat is back.  I’ve heard the Steelers may be interested in bringing Elandon Roberts back.  Do you think this would be a good move?  Thanks.

Hello and I'm glad as well!

Elandon Roberts was a good veteran to have on the roster when he was in Pittsburgh and he just got done playing for Patrick Graham. Think it would be a smart move to bring him back, even at 32 years old.

Good morning Chris, one of my favorite quarterbacks is Stafford not just for his prolific arm but also because of his intensely driven approach to the line of scrimmage, it just seems like he's in a special attack headset on every play, like he has the plan and won't be denied. I got the same vibe from watching Will Howard lead Ohio State to the college championship, do you think this is a definable trait and might it be what Allar is missing.

Good morning!

I think Allar can recognize basics of defenses, but he didn't show the ability to anticipate disguised coverages or stick to his keys to read post-snap adjustments by defenses.

I do agree about Stafford, as he's developed into a true field general throughout his career and is in a well-oiled offense.

Hey Chris, thanks for your chats. Seeing that Lemon was falling in the first round, I was yelling at the tv, telling Omar to trade up as early as pick 13.  With the craziness that followed with Philly, do you think Omar will be more likely to trade up if there is a player he really likes?
Christopher Carter
11:55
Hey Darnell and thanks for being here!

You weren't alone. But I do think Omar assessed how most of the league felt about Lemon in that he fell to 20. He just needed to check in with Dallas to make sure they knew the Steelers wanted to at least had to match any offers to trade up for the spot in case of a move like what the Eagles did.
11:58
Don't know if he'll need to be that much more aggressive in the future. But I do think he'll want to protect his picks a bit more when teams could trade up just ahead of them.

But I want to emphasize what I said earlier in this chat that I think Khan's patience has paid off for the Steelers multiple times already and that it almost did so again.

Chris - thanks for the chats and your analysis of Allar. Will you be doing a similar article for Howard? Thanks!
Christopher Carter

Thanks for reading it! I did one on Howard last year when they drafted him!

You can read it here. Sorry but the gifs might be a bit blurry. We had some tech changes that forced me to learn some new coding on how to display the plays over the past year.
Alright, I can do one more before I need to get to other tasks for the day. Hmmmm.

Hi Chris, do you feel the Steelers did enough to improve their run defense as it pertains to adding to the DL and ILBS.
Christopher Carter

Hi Paul!

I do think this might've been one of the bigger misses of the draft. Less so about linebackers and more about getting another nose/defensive tackle. I think Keeanu Benton can move to 3-tech permanently after what we've seen for 3 years and Yahya Black isn't exactly a nose yet either.

I don't see Gabriel Rubio as someone who will make an instant impact. And I really thought Iowa State DT Domonique Orange was the perfect fit for a double-team eating nose tackle. He went seven picks after they selected Drew Allar.
That's all for today everyone! Thanks for being here and stay tuned for more work coming!
