I do think the success of the offensive line might be the most important thing about this season (outside of wins and losses of course). They NEED that group to develop and the top investment of the OTs paying off would go a long way to doing it.

FWIW, I think Broderick Jones has looked good in the limited things we can see without pads. He's dropped 20 pounds, moving well and I think he'll have a better year.

Chris, EXCELLENT response and observations in response to the allegations against Mason Rudolph in the Miles Garrett situation! Thank you for a sane, reasonable response to a ridiculous, baseless and illogical conclusion by Guest!

Does rumors like the one about the Steelers trading for Miami's TE make you think this team is learning more toward the offense Arthur Smith ran at Tennessee with one real WR and multiple TEs on the field a lot? Or do you think it's still reasonable to expect the Steelers to make a move for a real WR2?

I do think Arthur Smith has more say in the building of this offense than people realize. But I also think the Jonnu Smith rumors are more from his agent--Drew Rosenhaus--trying to spice up negotiations with the Dolphins to get him a new deal. Smith has one year left, is 30, and just set the Dolphins franchise record for receptions, yards and touchdowns by a tight end in a season.

I think the Steelers are looking much harder at WR2.

I'm not sold on Gabe Davis; the Steelers should look elsewhere.  Buffalo and Jacksonville didn't want him.  Isn't he another Dionte Johnson or Chase Claypoole?

The only thing with either of those guys is he would cost nothing to sign him. I don't know Gabe Davis to be a locker room problem.

But Johnson was a 3rd round pick and took a sizeable extension contract. Claypool was a second round pick (that could've been Jalen Hurts OOF).

Davis would be a very small one-year signing at best. Nothing to lose there.

Good morning Chris. Since this is turning into a political chat, has anyone asked Mel Blount his feelings on seeing 47 presented to the sitting president?
Christopher Carter

Good morning!

Honestly, I did think of that seeing the number 47 on that jersey. I hope he's not getting bothered by that. Not because I think he shouldn't--because if he was, he has the right to be upset. But the Mel Blount I've met on several occasions is a very nice man. I just think if I was retired and I earned that number to be honored like it has been--save for Scott Shields of course--I wouldn't want to have to worry about something like that.

Hopefully Mel is somewhere having a nice Thursday morning like the rest of us.

One more Rodgers-related question: if they are willing to sign an over 40 QB, future HoFer, then would Big Ben provide the same level of play? What would be the difference besides Ben not playing for a few years?

No. Ben Roethlisberger might have been able to do that, but his elbow injury severely limited him and you could see the toll of all the hits he took in his career really start to pop up in 2020, let alone 2021. Rodgers has taken hits, but he's never been wrecked the way Roethlisberger was when he was taking all those sacks in the Arians era. I think Rodgers' body is better suited for playing at this age because of that.

Chris when Trumps term ends do you think he would be a good replacement for Tomlin or maybe even buy the team ✈️😂😂

As a 70 year Steeler fan and a former receiver for Carnegie Tech averaging 21 yards a reception, I know a bit about pass patterns. The Steelers have had very poor overall patterns for the last 3-4 years. I'm not talking about the players. There are 4 -5 teams who have far more creative passing attacks with always 1-2 guys always open. Either our OC or whoever controls the passing game have become passe or dinosaurs. Why haven't the Steelers lured one of the younger, creative guys to get us into 2025? I'm so frustrated I'm thinking of not watching the Steelers for the first time in 70 years!

Hi Larry! Carnegie Tech! Woah that's cool!

As for pass designs, I think Matt Canada definitely set them back and Arthur Smith wasn't scheming up the middle of the field as much with a shorter quarterback like Wilson.

This will be the year to show something different though with Rodgers (presumably). I do think they need to take a step up. But as I've said earlier, I think the offense has been much more conservative not just in how much they throw, but in the varieties of concepts they've deployed because of their QB and OL situations.
That's all the questions! Thanks everyone for joining for another fun chat! I'm headed out with Ray Fittipaldo to watch practice. Stay tuned with the Post-Gazette for our observations on the final day of Steelers OTAs!
