Hi Nell, could you please tell us the process of requesting prerequisite waive in detail? Thank you~
AvatarAdi Altshuler

tuition is the same, your ability to study well for each class is not. I htink 10-12 credits should be the max for fall.
YUQI YAO
9:33
We choose 10 credits or 17 credits, is the tuition fee the same? Do you need to pay extra tuition for winter semester classes?
AvatarNell Novara
9:32
Different sections of the class are just so that more students may take the course-- they are the same class. Section 1, 2, and 3 of BA for example are all the same class. You can only take one section of any course. You can bid on multpole sections to ensure you get a spot in one (though you should bid higher for your preferred section)

Good morning Nell and Adi, could you please tell me if there is any continuity between different sections of the same class? I just wonder if I could do well in Section B without taking Section A. Thanks for your answer!

Will the Non-K Kellogg courses be available in the spring semester?

The Non-K Kellogg courses that may be available in the Fall or Winter quarter do not count towards graduation nor NY bar requirements.

Can we take courses in winter semester, and do they count towards graduation credits and NY bar credits?
AvatarAdi Altshuler

By email from me in mid-September.

Good morning! I would like to ask how will we be informed about Kellogg courses out of our schedule.
AvatarNell Novara
9:28
There may be some adjustments to the spring curriculum, though we don't expect major changes. It is your responsibility to review the Spring curriculum schedule and note any adds/removes/changes before you bid for Spring courses later this fall.

Note that there are roughly the same amount of courses available each semester
Jeronimo
9:28
The catalog of courses for the Spring semester is final? The number of courses is very low compared to the fall semester, do you expect to add more courses?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:28
Yes, the Kellogg courses that are offered as part of the law school curriculum are available only in the fall (3 courses).

Teh generla Non-K kKellogg courses that may open up will be advertised by email. As a student, you should always make sure to pay attention to any emails coming from the Registration and Records of International Programs so you don't miss out.

Good morning Nell and Adi! I’m wondering how we will be informed about Kellogg courses in Kellogg (not on our schedule). It will only happen in the fall semester or in two semesters? Besides, I would like to check whether Kellogg courses in our schedule are only available in the fall semester.

I have  a general suggestion to you - we provided a lot of information about teh degree requirements, courses that are available, courses we think you should consider, and guidelines how to build your curriculum. Please start the process of understanding the curriculum from our International Program material, rather than general JD material or resources, this will help you understand and implement best strategy for the year.

If a course is on the schedule, we expect it to be offered. However, life happens and sometimes, a course is cancelled for reasons outside our control. So at the moment, we do expect the course to take place this year.

Is International Project Finance guaranteed this year, I spoke to an alumni who said last year it was cancelled last minute

I think you may follow the general Northwestern guidelines for Course Teacher Evaluation at https://www.northwestern.edu/ctec/students/index.html
You may check with the Registration team if this does not get you to the CTE. We will provide more information later if otherwise.

Good morning, could you please tell me how can I see the CTE of Kellogg-law courses? Cause I did not find it on CAESAR. Thank you.

Note: we've had some questions about course availability.

If a course says: something like: --- Open to First Year Students (or tax LLM), this just means these students may also take this course (as their course selections are more limited). You may still bid on these courses (assuming you meet any pre-req requirements).

If a course says something like: ---  First Year students Only-- this means ONLY students in that program may bid on this course and you cannot.

There are two mandatory courses only: CLR and ALS (one of the sections, either American Legal Studies: Constitutional Law or American Legal Studies: Civil Procedure.
Liz
9:12
Thanks for clarifying, didnt know ALS is also mandatory for LLMs
AvatarNell Novara
9:09
Hi- I will address a few different questions here.

CLR stands for Common Law Reasoning, which is the LLM course that you all must take.

CLR also stands for Communication & Legal Reasoning, which is the JD course equivalent.

LLMs will ONLY take Common Law Reasoning, as these classes are specifically designed for LLMs.

As Adi mentioned, we are working on a plan to allow LLM students to bid on their CLR course and we will send information about this as soon as we finalize details.

For ALS, you must bid on one of these courses.

We cannot tell you how many points to bid, but note that for CLR and ALS, these are mandatory courses for all LLMs and there will be enough seats available for all of you, but if you have a strong preference for a certain course/section, you should bid accordingly.

9:09
Thanks for your anwser. I was wondering for the mandatory courses such as Common Law Reasoning(CLR), American Legal Studies: Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law, do we have to bid on that? Or we can spend 1 point for CLR? What kind of courses we llm student should spend less points on the bid? And also, for the American Legal Studies: Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law, we can just choose one of them right? But for CLR, we have to choose that course, right? Is there a CLR only for LLM?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:09
It is open to all students including 1L. 1L students are restricted which courses they may take, so this indication is for them. It does not restrict your access to the class.
YUQI YAO
9:09
I noticed that the privacy law for the spring semester says it is only open to 1L, can LLM students apply for it?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:08
yes, depending on when you do that. If you withdraw before the Last Chance Period you will get the points back.
Jeronimo
9:07
If I bid 100 points in a course that closes at 300 points, I would be placed in the wait list, right? If I decide to withdraw myself from the wait list, would I get my 100 bid points back?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:06
We are actually going to open CLR to bidding so you may select the section that will not conflict with other courses you may wish to take. We will provide more details about this specific bidding for CLR later today.
Jiang Qi
9:06
Great appreciate! Here is another one. I may not bid on CLR but how can I choose a specific CLR course, like the course offered by Prof. John Thornton?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:05
Yes, depending in what point of time you withdraw. If you do so before the end of the "Last Chance Period" you will get teh points back.
Jeronimo
9:05
If you bid 100 points and the last seat of a course closes at 200 points, you would be placed on the wait list, right? If you decide to withdraw yourself from the wait list would get your bid points back?
AvatarNell Novara
9:04
correct
Sunny

so ALS: Civil Procedure (LLM) is for LLM students,  Civil Procedure (1) is not for LLM, right?
