The needs report says that Oregon will need to win out to finish in the Top 16. Is that doable with one more game against OSU, three against Mich. State, two against SMC, three vs. UW and three at Iowa? I will say this -- if the Ducks can up shop against that schedule the rest of the way, they would've made a BOLD statement to host, that's for damned sure.

West Virginia has now cracked the Top 16 in your poll, so does that put WVU in the Best position to host a Regional out of All of the Big 12 teams, and what would the Mountaineers have to do for a shot at a Top 8 National seed or would even Winning the Big 12 and having single digit overall losses on the season not be enough with the weak SOS?
Aaron Fitt
1:48
Given that comfy two-game lead in the Big 12 standings, I do think WVU is in the best shape to host out of the Big 12. And if they win those last three series (vs. TTU, at K-State, vs. Kansas), I do think that's certainly enough to overcome the weak NSOS. If they take two of those three series and win the Big 12, they should have at least a shot at a top 8.

Does an acc regular season title (let's say co-champs with FSU) guarantee a top 8 for nc state? Rpi may still be down around 18 with a 20-10 conference record?           Alternatively, does going 19-11 (no title) secure a regional host?
Aaron Fitt
1:49
I think a co-title with an RPI around 18 might not be enough for a top 8. But I do think 19-11 with no title gets them a host spot, yes.

After an ugly series loss, how good does Arizona need to be down the stretch to get back into a host spot? Can they make amends by beating TCU in Tucson this weekend or do they need more?
Aaron Fitt
1:50
Winning two of three vs. TCU would get them back in the mix, but obviously their RPI has dropped down to No. 26 so there's still work to do... and series against Utah and Houston to finish won't help them in the RPI. They're gonna need a torrid finish, I think.

Rivalry week in Los Angeles this week, with UCLA playing at USC.  Both are 6-1 in Big 10 series this season.  Do you think a host for UCLA and a bid for USC are on the line this week?
Kendall Rogers
1:50
I think UCLA needs to win that series to still in a solid spot to host. Right now, the RPI is in a good spot at 17, but the overall metrics aren't overly impressive outside of a strong NSOS. As for USC, the Trojans went up 11 spots in the RPI to 38 after the weekend. At 14-7 in the league and with 13 wins vs. Q1/Q2, I actually feel like the Trojans are pretty safe as of today.

If Coastal keeps doing what they're doing, is there any shot of a Top 8 seed?
Kendall Rogers
1:52
I think Coastal would have a pretty good case. The thing I really hate for Coastal is that the rest of the Sun Belt outside of the top three are absolutely killing them in terms of resumes right now. The intent to schedule out of conference was great for this team, but a series win over ECU, for instance, doesn't mean a ton because ECU has an RPI of 80. There are some little things like that working against Coastal's resume, but I love the consistency, the 14-7 road record, non-conference SOS and the RPI. They'd be in the mix for me.

Is rhr Big 12 a 2 host league? Who’s in the mix besides WVU?
Kendall Rogers
1:53
Feels like West Virginia and TCU are the most likely hosts right now, followed by Kansas and Arizona. I do think two host out of that group on Selection Day. We'll see if our feel on that changes in the coming weeks.

How many Top 8 seeds are pretty much decided and Which teams are in contention for the few undecided final Top 8 seeds
Aaron Fitt
1:53
It really doesn't feel like much is decided at this point -- other than Texas being a top 8. Everybody else has warts and is vulnerable if they limp to the finish line. Georgia and Vandy have great RPIs but mediocre SEC records. LSU, Arkansas and Tennessee have better conference records but are lower in the RPI. UNC, FSU, Clemson and NC State are all jockeying for position in the ACC but nothing feels remotely settled in that league. So much can change in the next month, it will be a fun race.

Can UTSA get an at large bid?
Kendall Rogers
1:54
UTSA is very safe right now. The Roadrunners are 27 in the RPI and are leading the AAC by three games. If that stays put ... even an early exit in the conference tournament should no bearing on if UTSA gets in the field or not -- IMO, at least.

What does the success of the former Pac-12 teams in the B1G and lack of success in the ACC say about that former conference in general?
Aaron Fitt
1:57
A couple things: (1) It is just really hard to be one of the two West Coast teams in a conference that has 14 other teams on the other side of the country -- traveling east is taxing, and Cal and Stanford have to do it a lot. At least the Big Ten has four teams in the West, which helps cushion the demanding travel a little bit. (2) The ACC is an elite league, and the Big Ten is not. We already knew that, and I think this year has reinforced it. I think if you put Cal and Stanford in the Big Ten this year, they'd be in the mix just as USC and Washington are. But if you put USC and Washington in the ACC this year, I have a feeling they'd be toward the bottom, as Cal and Stanford are. Part of that is travel, and part of that is the ACC is just a better league. In recent years (NOT historically, of course), the ACC was also clearly better than the Pac-12 — which was clearly better than the Big Ten.

OK friends, that's it for me this week, KR will take you home, as I embark on the travel back home to North Carolina from California.

Its getting to be Carousel time.  Can you give me the next wave of Assistant Coaches who are in line for a Big Chair at a good program?
Kendall Rogers
1:59
Some guys who come immediately to mind:
Nolan Cain, Texas
Reggie Willits, Oklahoma
Josh Elander, Tennessee
Nate Thompson, Arkansas
Nick Schnabel, Clemson
Jack Marder, Oregon
Josh Jordan/Nate Yeskie, LSU
Chuck Jeroloman, Florida
Chris Hart, NC State (though he will take over for Avent)
Ty Blankmeyer, Vanderbilt

Those are the main ones off the top of my head ...

No disrespect towards what Texas has achieved - but it feels like they have so many close wins, so many comebacks... eventually that magic runs out, right?  Would they actually be better off losing a series or two before the postseason?
Kendall Rogers
2:02
It does seem like Texas is due for a stinker at some point, but those guys just keeping stepping up and winning series, so you have to give them a serious amount of credit. Hopefully for the Horns' sake, this isn't the case, but this team kind of reminds me of 2021 Arkansas. That year, the Hogs could not lose a weekend series and had a Volantis-type of arm in Kevin Kopps at the backend of games. Of course, that Arkansas team was eliminated from the NCAA tournament in the Super Regional round. Not saying that will remotely happen to Texas, but there are a lot of parallels between the two teams so far this spring.

Does Mississippi State have a path to postseason? If they were to miss postseason play, you guys expecting a coaching change in Starkville?
Kendall Rogers
2:06
Think the Bulldogs need to get to 13-14 conference wins. My other issue with MSU's resume right now is where is the meat on the bone? The other bubble contenders such as Florida and A&M have meat on the bone in league play, while MSU's best series win is Alabama on the road, which is a solid series win for sure. I think MSU needs to win its remaining three series to make the tournament.

Approximately how many programs in the West will host a regional? There are some strong teams, but national conference realignment has taken the focus away.
Kendall Rogers

Oregon State and UC Irvine are safe bets. I think UCLA has a solid shot right now, too, with Arizona also in the mix if it can finish really strong.

Is KState at risk to falling out of the Tourney?
Kendall Rogers
2:10
I think Kansas State is fine as of today with a 12-9 league record and an RPI of 43 (along with a member of its AD on the committee). But it doesn't have a ton of room for error down the stretch with two of the remaining three series on the road. Definitely time for some guys to step up for the Wildcats these final few weeks.

What’s the more unbelievable stat: Texas at 19-2 in the SEC or Missouri at 0-21?
Kendall Rogers
2:11
Missouri at 0-21. I don't understand how you can't find some random game that the other team just plays like garbage and you win.

Lets say Lamar wins the conference tournament and McNeese, UTRGV, and SELA are all in the top 45-50 in RPI, can the Southland be a 3-4 bid league?
Kendall Rogers
2:11
I have a feeling the Southland will end up being a two-bid league when the dust settles. Lamar getting sizzling hot would just knock someone out of the field, IMO.

Troy is still ranked because they keep winning series 2/3 even against bad teams. Iowa is unranked despite winning every series and sweeping relatively better teams than Troy’s recent opponents. Yet Troy is still ranked just because they started the year ranked? Doesn’t that seem a bit unfair?

Kendall Rogers
2:13
First of all, I really like Iowa's club. Dangerous team. But no, it's not unfair. Why? Troy has yet to lose a series this season and at least has a series wins over a Top 20 team in Coastal Carolina. Iowa, for as good as it has been in league play to date, does not have a single series win over a team that will be in the NCAA tournament. That, of course, changes in the next few weeks with dates against Oregon State AND Oregon.

Would Sam Houston consider a head coaching change? It's been ugly this year for my alma mater.
Kendall Rogers
2:15
I was told a few weeks ago that no change was expected, but there's literally zero reason why Sam Houston should ever be 9-35 in college baseball. That's a fantastic mid-major program and job. You'd be shocked at some of the assistant names that would have serious interest in that job should it come open.

Thoughts on how the SoCon is shaping up? How bout the turn around for first year skipper Russel Triplett at Citadel, been quite some time since the Bulldogs were still in contention this late into the season
Kendall Rogers

League is looking highly competitive at the top for sure. And great call on Russ Triplett. I actually featured him in a feature a couple of weeks ago where I discussed coaches who were doing great jobs at the midseason mark. Good to see The Citadel making moves.
