How important is it for the Pac-12 to have Arizona continue to do well? The thrashing that they gave to Oklahoma (twice), DBU, and Mizzu should help carry the conference as long as they can handle things the rest of the way. Taking one game this weekend in Westwood feels like a solid start...

I think that's a good point -- Arizona getting hot would boost the Pac-12's standing, and I think it's only a matter of time before that happens. We all saw in Frisco how much of a buzzsaw the Wildcats can be when they're firing on all cylinders. I still think that's a scary club to face, and that's going to prove to be a huge series win for the Bruins.

What’s your take on the Pac-12 thus far? As an Oregon State fan, I’ve gotta say UW has not been what I thought they’d be. But is the Pac a potential five-bid conference? Possibly six depending on how Arizona State and Wazzu compete later on?

Caleb -- The league looks pretty solid right now if you ask me. Arizona State, for instance, lost that series to Oregon, but it was still pretty competitive. Right now, I'd have these teams in my NCAA tournament field: Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Arizona and either Arizona State/Stanford, perhaps. Five bids sounds about right for the Pac 12.

At this point in the season, who do you rank as the  the top Catchers in the ACC? I would make the case that Henry Davis is #1, Matheu Nelson #2, Adrian Del Castillo #3 and Freshman sensation Kevin Parada #4.  Rankings are based on a total review of offensive and defensive stats, plus I have watched all four in action multiple times via the ACC network.

I think I'm with you on Davis No. 1, I think he's the best all-around guy. I'm sticking with Del Castillo at No. 2, I just think he's going to go on a tear at some point and finish with big numbers, and I like how he's developed defensively. Nelson vs. Parada is tough, but for now we can give the edge to the veteran, because experience matters at that position, and Nelson has also hit for power. Don't forget about Luca Tresh at NC State, another power hitter who has performed well despite that team's struggles. He'd probably be No. 3 for me. Feels like Michael Rothenberg has to heat up at some point too. Really good catchers in that league.

So Leiter is clearly otherworldly, but he’s gone 90+ pitches (124 Saturday) in his past 4 starts. Do you think we’ll see signs of fatigue at the end of the year that so many guys experience in their first full season logging that many innings? Obviously last year wasn’t a full season but does a year in a college program combat that some?

I like that type of in-depth question. I actually am OK with Leiter's workload early on. Everyone pitcher is different, but you can bet your lucky stars that Leiter had optimum development/training during the COVID off time. So, in essence, you're talking about a very very fresh arm because of last season ending soon, combined with a kid who's probably getting the most elite instruction possible. He'll be fine. I had someone ask me the same question this past weekend about Texas RHP Ty Madden after his 120 pitch performance against Baylor.
