I know this weekend was seen as the first real weekend test for Virginia. They passed with flying colors the first two days but they've yet to beat a Top 25 team. I guess Duke was a preseason Top 25. Should the next two weekends (vs GT, at Miami) be a better barometer for UVa?
Kendall Rogers

Steve -- It'll be a barometer for sure, but I watched a couple of Virginia's games over the weekend and it definitely passed the eyeball test. It didn't look like a team with much of a weakness at all against a club that I think is pretty dang good on its own. UVA seems to know exactly what team it is -- and that's big this early in the season.

I am a Miami homer for sure.  That being said how can Florida State be #5?  It is mind boggling honestly given the schedule they have played and their W/L record.

The Seminoles have won all six of their weekends, and the last four series have come against teams that do have postseason-caliber talent (Cal, Wake Forest, NC State, Duke), even though Cal and Duke clearly do not have postseason-caliber resumés to this point. Florida State has elite pitching, and it is taking care of business on weekends. So as other teams have lost, FSU has gradually slid up. That's what happens when you win all of your weekends.

After winning 5 straight weekend series and now having won 5 in a row, which includes wins over Mercer and at FGCU, where would you guys say you have USF ranked? Your top 75? top 50? what needs to happen to get into the top 25?

The Bulls did actually come up in our Top 25 conversation this week -- I would say they're probably in the 30-35 range for us right now, based on body of work and the track record of the roster. Road series coming up at UCF and at Tulane; my guess is if they can win both of those, they'll be ranked.

Thoughts on Atlantic Sun  Kennesaw  State and FGCU.

KC -- I think it's a strong mid-major league right now -- at least a the top. I've heard terrific things about FGCU, specifically from an offensive standpoint, Liberty is obviously good, and Kennesaw State has been somewhat of a surprise, winning four-straight with a solid overall record. Now, you have Trimp's Stetson club figuring things out -- taking that series from Liberty (on the road) after losing the series to FGCU. That's going to be a fun race.

How close were San Diego and Grand Canyon to making the top 25?  Also, can the state of Texas get 5 regional host spots this year?
Aaron Fitt

Toreros were in the mix this week, probably in that 26-30 group. Really like that body of work. Lopes are farther back in the pecking order, with three series losses in six weekends. Not close yet to the Top 25. As for the state of Texas, four feels far likelier than five hosts.

In your mind is LSU closer to what we saw against A&M, or what we saw against Florida?
Kendall Rogers

SEC --  Closer to what we saw against Florida, but not that good, as in blowing out a Top 25 team like they did the last two games. LSU against A&M was as bad as I've seen a major SEC team play in a long time... it was brutal.

If Kentucky takes 2/3 from Ole Miss this weekend will that make them a lock to be in the top 25?
Aaron Fitt

I think so, yes.

With DBU just starting to hit their stride-what do you think their ceiling is this season?
Aaron Fitt
1:08
Still think the ceiling is Omaha. They were very close last year, and there are plenty of nice pieces back from that team along with some good reinforcements like Jacob Meador. That team does have Omaha-caliber talent.

Is Stanford close to top 25?
Kendall Rogers
1:08
Stanford was in the discussion, but has work to do to get back into the Top 25 for sure. There are some other teams -- namely Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss -- ahead in the pecking order. I'd have UK ahead of Stanford, too.

As a long time Oregon State fan I have to ask. Is Oregon for real?
Aaron Fitt
1:09
I think that Oregon lineup is definitely for real, that is a very scary group. I'm still not convinced on the pitching staff, but that's the case with the majority of teams this year. Rock-solid pitching is hard to come by in 2022.
