I agree, Georgia Southern is a good club. I stopped in Charleston on Wednesday and saw them boat-race CofC -- that offense is pretty scary, led by Mason McWhorter and Noah Ledford. Jaylen Paden is a pretty exciting freshman too. I saw some of the ECU series on TV this weekend, impressed with the way the Eagles competed. They'll be a real factor in the Sun Belt.

Is Charlotte getting any consideration at this point to be in the top 25?
Aaron Fitt

They're off to a great start, and all those arms I heard so much about (and some of them I saw in the fall) have been as good as advertised. I'm going to see them at UNC Greensboro tomorrow, that's a fun little midweeker. Charlotte still needs wins against higher-end competition to get into the Top 25, but I assure you they're on the radar.

Thoughts on Oklahoma State? I know they havent played any big time opponents yet, but the pitching staff looks loaded.

Guest - I actually don't think OSU has played a bad schedule. Wichita State is expected to be solid in the American and Illinois State should be in the postseason mix as well. Nolan McLean is an ultra-talented freshman who's off to a great start at the plate, and I'm encouraged by the starting rotation with Parker Scott and Bryce Osmond leading the way. I've been hearing some very good things about Osmond behind closed doors, BTW.

Why did the ACC season start this past weekend, it seems really early for conference play, are Thier any benefits to this? What are your thoughts on starting the conference schedule this early?
Aaron Fitt
2:10
It's just a covid measure -- ACC is playing 36 conference games instead of the usual 30. I suppose the logic is that ACC schools have more consistent covid testing protocols? I don't really get it, to be honest with you. But lots of leagues have changed their schedules because of COVID -- the most obvious being the Big Ten playing a conference-only schedule.

Who needs the series this weekend more: Virginia @ FSU? UVa hasn't swung the bat well at all and FSU was a mess against Pitt. Is the series loser in big trouble?
Kendall Rogers
2:11
ACC -- Oh, Florida State, without a doubt. Virginia already has a series win (UCONN) that I think will look good at the end of the year, and the Cavaliers also appeared to pitch very well against UNC. Florida State got swept at home by Pitt and was an absolute mess on the mound at times.

in respect of Freshman of the Year honors, how will D1 and other groups consider CV19-Freshmen? Are they eligible or just the true newbies?
Kendall Rogers

Freshman of the Year will stick with true freshmen.

Another dominant start from Austin Love this weekend and UNC.  Started the season with 12+ no-hit innings against quality opposition.  Where does he stand nationally in terms of top end Friday night starters? Is he the kind of guy going forward that can carry you to Omaha?
Aaron Fitt
2:12
I was there Thursday and wrote about Love on Friday, I'd encourage you to find that report. He was extremely impressive -- it is bona fide Friday night stuff, 92-95 with command and life, a hard slider that flashed plus, and that typical power changeup. He's a battle-tested veteran, and he's strong enough to maintain his stuff deep into games. He's a real ace.

We are through 2 weeks and I am wondering if your thoughts on the Pac12 projected finish have changes. Some tops teams have be shocked. how does the top 5 look for you guys today?
Kendall Rogers
2:13
Guest -- For me, in the Pac 12 right now: 1) UCLA 2) Oregon State 3) Arizona 4) Arizona State 5) Stanford. Keep an eye on the Cardinal. That was a strong series win over Santa Clara this past weekend.

How concerned are you about Wake Forest after yet another slow start? And why did the Deacs fall completely out of the top 25 while a team like Tennessee, who split a series with Indiana State, didn’t move at all? Thanks.
Aaron Fitt
2:16
One reason Wake fell out was the news that Antonio Menendez (a guy I pegged as a really key arm, a weekend starter with experience and stuff) will miss the season with Tommy John surgery, and Derek Crum the expected CF will also miss the season. That downgrades my assessment of Wake, and then factor in a 1-3 week, and we had too many other teams to reward after strong weeks. Tennessee didn't lose its series -- a split is better than a series loss -- and had a 4-2 week. Apples and oranges. But yes, I am somewhat concerned about Wake after the Menendez news, and word that Shane Smith might be hurt as well... but I'm not giving up on that team. Maybe Rhett Lowder can be the answer on Sundays.

All right gang, fun chat, and so many great questions in the queue, but I've got to run. See you next week!

How much further can Elijah Cabell hit a baseball than you can drive a golf ball? Prior to that, what was the most decimated baseball you’d seen in the BBCOR era?
Kendall Rogers
2:17
Hmm. This is a great question. I kind of think back to when Pete Alonso hit that home run at the College World Series that landed on the concourse above the seats in left field. You hav to clear the bullpen AND about 25 rows of seats to get to that. Absolutely bomb.
Aaron Fitt

Pshaww, my 6-iron can go as far as Cabell's biggest blast. Not impressed.

No but seriously that guy's power is insane. For me, I'd have to go back to a couple Kris Bryant homers I saw during his days at San Diego. Dude hit 31 homers during the height of the dead bat/dead ball era, and some of them were just moon shots.

You've always been hesitant to drop teams who didn't lose a series.  What allowed Mississippi State to jump Louisville despite having the same record for the week playing against unranked teams?  Especially considering how close State was to losing the series or getting swept?
Aaron Fitt
2:18
Oh, one more -- Louisville really hasn't played ANYBODY, and that Friday loss to Western Illinois (0-11 last year) was a really bad loss for a top five team. Mississippi State played elite competition last week and went 2-1 without two of its weekend starters, then won a hard-fought series against a good Tulane team. Bulldogs just have a much better body of work to this point. You're right, we don't usually move teams down when they win their weekend, but I think one spot down was appropriate in this case.
