What are some of the non-power 5 conference teams that are in the top 25 that you've been most impressed with?
Tara Henry
3:34
USF and Charlotte are the two non-power 5 teams in our current Top 25. USF's Georgina Corrick has been nearly perfect in the circle for the Bulls & Charlotte's mid-week win over the Hokies solidified their place in the top 25. Teams outside the T25 to keep an eye on...Troy, San Diego State, UCF, Wichita State, Boise State, USC Upstate and Liberty.

Do you think Oklahoma this year is going to be as "untouchable" as they were last year?

The difference between this year’s Oklahoma team and last year’s is pitching. Thus far Jordy Bahl, Nicole May, and Hope Trautwein all have ERAs under 1.10. As good as G Juarez was in OKC last year, she didn’t have the greatest regular season. One could make the argument that this team is better than last year’s currently. However, I think where we stand right now there’s multiple teams better suited to face Oklahoma’s lineup right now like a Virginia Tech with Rochard and Lemley in the circle. I also think we all want to see Fouts and Alabama face the Sooners. I never want to call a team “untouchable” but Oklahoma is certainly making the case to be darn close right now.

I know we live in a world where the hypothetical game is always dangerous, but roll with me here--if Virginia Tech doesn't lose to Charlotte in the mid-week, are they number three in this new poll? If we're talking resume right now (again, early), they already have 7 RPI Top 25 wins (at Clemson 3x and Northwestern, Missouri, Kentucky, and Wisconsin at neutral sites) and the "other" losses are both on the road to Alabama. If Keely Rochard had pitched like usual and the Hokies had won that Wednesday game, it makes sense to me that they could be ranked that high. You could also make the argument they might be ranked too low even with the Charlotte loss (now #24 in D1, #8 in the fresh RPI today). Thoughts?

Hypothetically? Yes, one could argue Virginia Tech could be the number 3 IF they beat Charlotte. They didn't but hypothetically ROAD WINS HAVE WEIGHT. If we look at the current RPI rankings - which is a very small sample size - they are (4-3 road two of those loses are to Bama). UCLA has yet to get a road win making a good case for VT at No. 3 but two of their losses are ranked walk-offs and OU. Florida and Florida State just lost their first games of the season. Think its still too early to put Virginia Tech up that high.

What team has been impacted the most positively by the transfer portal and what team do you think has been impacted negatively by the transfer portal?
Brady Vernon

Arkansas is a team that’s quietly benefitted from the portal this year. Taylor Ellsworth has been another stable bat in the lineup. KB Sides has a good OPS and 14 stolen bases already. Chenise Delce from Tulsa has become the second option in the circle behind Mary Haff. There’s plenty of others that have one or two players but those three have made an instant impact. On the negative side, Fresno State is 3-15 after being a tournament team last year. Hailey Dolcini, McKenzie Wilson, Dariana Orme playing elsewhere have had a major impact on that.
