Max Scherzer is currently running a surplus of $60.7mil on his contract, using Matt Swarz's $$/fWAR figures. It's $108.8 if you use bWAR. That is, if he disappeared tomorrow and the Nats still paid out the rest of the contract to his family, they'd still be $60+mil in the black. Is that the best FA contract ever on a $$/fWAR basis? What other contracts would come close? (I haven't done any research, I only looked at Max's)
