Did you see the Posnanski tweet re: banning the shift? Asked purely on which game you'd prefer to watch as a fan. While I strongly don't think it should be legislated out, i'd like the "look" of the game without it.

The thing is FF6 is still one of the best, but in FF7 you get to BREED GODDAMN RACING CHICKENS! Also the golden saucer (all the mini games), the materia system being more sophisticated than espers, makes for a better game.

I actually like the esper system better because you really have to balance long term "training" needs with short-term usage.
