We're talking about a 31-year-old to-be free agent having the first three-WAR season of his career on a rather poor team that isn't really that close to contention.
A team with a hole may see the value in paying him based on his 2017 rather than his 2018-2020, but that's not the Reds.
At least it shouldn't be.

I'd try every failed hitting prospects with a strong arm as a pitcher, for one.

I do like the attempt.  The Braves aren't really that good a team and the benefit of that is trying stuff like this.
