The thing I always get hung up on regarding MVP is the phrase "to his team". FanGraphs' writers (and others) continually advocate for the MVP to be awarded without team context when team context is explicitly stated in the definition! Assuming team context then, wouldn't Mike Trout *always* win the AL MVP? He is a 10 WAR player on an 11 WAR team, thus accounting for 91% of the team's above-replacement value and therefore, by definition, the most valuable to his team.
