Happy Wednesday, everyone.
We just published the SS positional power rankings, which wraps up the infield, and we'll move to the outfield tomorrow.
I'll take any PPR questions you have, or there's a WBC championship game tonight, or we can just talk about the 2017 season.

If Devon Travis can stay healthy.
Dave Cameron
12:03
That would help the Jays an awful lot. But at this point, probably not something they should bet on.

What is the best solution to replace me for the next month? I think, I am about to show how valuable I am in April.
Dave Cameron
12:04
I know they've been mentioned in the Nick Ahmed talks, but I'd imagine they can grab someone who can hold the fort down on waivers if they wait a week or two.

I have been enamored with Adam Frazier for sometime and this Spring has made me almost irrational. Please talk me down, he just seems like a lighter hitting Matt Carpenter to me.
Dave Cameron
12:04
That's probably getting a bit overly enthusiastic, but I wouldn't be shocked if he took the 2B job at some point this summer.

Do the Padres have the makings of a top five outfield down the road?
Dave Cameron
12:05
How long is this road?

Given the Mets' "predicament" of having more than 5 quality options for the starting rotation out of spring training do you think, assuming Gsellman is the 5th starter, it is both viable and a good idea to have Seth Lugo serve as a multi-inning reliever/piggyback starter for the first part of the season as opposed to just staying stretched out and burning innings in AAA waiting for someone to go down? He's looked good in the WBC, and that fastball and super-spin curve should play up in shorter outings (which I think was borne out in his peripherals in relief last year).
Dave Cameron
12:06
I'd probably keep him stretched out to start, even if that means he hangs out in AAA for a bit. The odds of that staff staying healthy all year is basically 0%.

Who wins the World Baseball Classic final tonight?
Dave Cameron
12:06
Probably the U.S. on some Eric Hosmer blooper that falls between a couple of guys, ensuring that we never stop hearing about how clutch he is.

Will Jorge Alfaro end up looking like 2016 Freddy Galvis? 20+ HRs and good defense at a premium position, but a sub-.300 OBP? How close to the 50th percentile outcome would that be for Alfaro?
Dave Cameron
12:07
Alfaro has a great arm, but that doesn't make you a good defensive catcher.
12:08
I think long-term he's an OF, and something like Jeff Francouer.
Rick Hahn
12:08
Do you like my Tim Anderson extension?
Dave Cameron
12:10
Deals like this are always good investments for the team. Even if Anderson busts, you're out ~$20 million or whatever the extra cost is above what he would have been paid while busting, and $20 million over six years is nothing. It doesn't change the budget at all. But if Anderson turns into a superstar, you just saved something like $10 to $20 million in his arb years and got options on his FA years for what will probably be something like 25% of his market value.
Risking $20M when it doesn't really matter for the chance to save $50-$60M when it really might is a no-brainer.

How awesome is this WBC? Mike Trout now says he's doing the next one, is enthusiasm growing in the sport, A-Gon aside?
Dave Cameron
12:11
The WBC is great. This tournament being so good has definitely helped.
Erik
12:11
So the point of the WBC is to grow baseball around the world, not grow the WBC within the US, right? If the US wins, will that be counterproductive? Or will it lead to a better WBC next time around?
Dave Cameron
12:12
If the US won every time, it would be counterproductive.
But winning once every few years isn't going to hurt.
Brady Anderson
12:12
Any thoughts on the Rosenthal article?
Dave Cameron
12:12
The stories that come out of people who have worked for the Orioles make none of that surprising. The organization is as dysfunctional as it gets.

Is Javy Baez the most interesting player in baseball? He's doing it again in the WBC, but oh that plate discipline.....
Dave Cameron
12:13
I don't know if he's the most interesting, but he's definitely one of the most exciting.
Twitter Beef

Did you see Bill Simmons's tweet to Jonah Keri yesterday (lamenting his use of the trade value format for MLB)? I heard he sent a similar tweet to you years ago. Thoughts?

Is Kris Bryant the new face of baseball?
Dave Cameron
12:16
The thing about baseball is that the most popular player is often not the best player. Jeter and Ortiz are the best examples; good players, but not the best players. I could see maybe a Betts or Lindor filling a similar role.
Thought Lindor is less likely because he's in Cleveland.

A little love for the A's bullpen? Madson-Doolitle-Axford-Casilla-Hendricks-Dull
Dave Cameron
12:17
That's a good bullpen.
But there are a lot of good bullpens now.

What was walker buehler's upside before TJ surgery? I am hearing right handed Kershaw comments from few writers....
Dave Cameron

Stop listening to those writers.
