Happy Wednesday, everyone. We're coming up on the trade deadline, but more and more, I get the feeling that this isn't going to be a particularly exciting few days.
Sonny Gray is going to go. A bunch of solid relievers will get moved.
But I don't know that we're going to see any blockbusters.

Altuve leads Judge in both bWAR and fWAR, plays a premium defensive position, and is on a team that is significantly better than Judge's. There is no saber-metric or old school argument you can use against him. He's the MVP.
Dave Cameron
12:02
They're tied at +5.5. Position is already included in WAR. Team strength is irrelevant.
Congratulations for taking a hard-line stance on something where it's perfectly reasonable to pick one or the other, though.

Would it make any sense for the Angels and Tigers to trade Puljos-Cabrera? Angels improve the production, but are saddled for a bunch more money. The Tigers continue the roster overturn.

Miggy's contract is underwater, but it's not to the point you move him for the worst contract in baseball yet.

12:03
Who makes more sense for the Rockies, Avila or Lucroy?
Dave Cameron
12:04
Probably Avila. Not sure Lucroy is much better than him at this point, and Avila will almost certainly cost less.

What's the deal with promoting Devers and then trading for Nunez?
Coolguy
12:04
How valuable of a player is Chris Taylor going forward?
Dave Cameron
12:04
I'd guess ~+2.5 WAR.

do you think the cost of adding Nunez would be that much different than what Lowrie goes for? Would he have been a better fit for Bos?
Dave Cameron
12:05
Market for Lowrie might be a little better because he's more viable at 2B.
Avila not Avila
12:05
Along with trading Verlander and Wilson, it would seem that one of the most beneficial events for the Tigers rebuild would be Upton opting out of his contract.  What are the odds that all three things occur?
Dave Cameron
12:06
He's got 5/$110M left after this year. I don't think he'd do better than that this winter.
12:07
But it's also not that far off his market value. Even if he doesn't opt-out, I think you could probably move him without picking up a huge amount of the contract. Maybe $20 million or so?

12:07
Take on the return the Giants got for Nunez?
Dave Cameron
12:07
About what you'd expect for a rent-a-role-player.

Do you consider it a flaw of WAR that a player gets the same credit for homering off Chris Sale as he gets for homering off Doug Fister, and if so is it fixable?
Dave Cameron
12:08
Well, it's more of a philosophical question. If you adjust for quality of opponent, do you adjust for quality of pitch? What if Sale throws you a 3-0 middle-middle fastball and you hit that for a home run. Do you want extra credit for that too?

Is it too early to say Kyle Schwarber may not be terrible in the OF?  6.4UZR/150....so  he is just average or just below average at worst?
Dave Cameron
12:09
All of his positive UZR is based on throwing.
Erik
12:10
What team is closest to 50/50 on the buy/sell decision?
Dave Cameron
12:10
Maybe the Rangers?
Stumpy
12:10
What do you see Verlander's value at?
Dave Cameron
12:11
I think the Tigers would have to eat about $20 million just to give him away for nothing. $30 million if they want a real prospect.

Any chance we can get Acuna for Sonny Gray?
Dave Cameron
12:11
Nope.
Roberto
12:11
the Swarzak move doesn't make the Brewers completely delusional yet. Do you think they prove their delusion in the next 5 days or do they hold steady and hope for the best?
Dave Cameron
12:11
No reason to think they're delusional. I think they'll make small upgrades.
Maybe they bring Marco Estrada back or something.
Free Willie
12:12
Calhoun.  Who is the best player the Dodgers could get back with a package centered around Calhoun as the top piece? And shouldn't they do it immediately?
Dave Cameron
12:12
Wouldn't be surprised if he went for a reliever. If Tigers think they can get Kinsler to waive his no-trade, could fit in Detroit as part of a Justin Wilson deal.

Level of concern re: Donaldson?
Dave Cameron
12:12
Hard to imagine he's healthy at this point.
12:13
Would guess that once the Jays are officially out of the race, he goes back on the DL.
Brad Wesley

Do you think Darvish ends up getting moved? If so, (1) Where do you think he lands and (2) Where do you think he SHOULD land (aka who could use him the most)
