By that logic, shouldn't he be signing with Cleveland?

Who you got in Big game today? SC or UCLA?
Mark P
3:04
First of all, the real big game of the day is the Mitchell Bowl between Western and Laval.  Go Mustangs!

Second of all....(googles NCAA records).....let's say USC

Chances dodgers sign Segura to fill the hole at 2nd and move Lux to short?
Mark P
3:06
On a short-term deal, perhaps.
Caleb
3:06
The Dodgers love short term high salary deals. Verlander and DeGrom both fit. Any chance we get both?
Mark P
3:06
Getting both is pretty outlandish.  Getting one is a distinct possibility.  As you noted, either of these pitchers would seem to fit the Dodgers' model of the high-AAV, shorter-term contracts

It seems they Dodgers go into the postseason with a gassed pitching staff every year (even in 2020).  After a 111 win season, would it behoove the Dodgers to gradually break in their stable of young arms during the regular season and then stretch out the one(s) who look ready for postseason.  Maybe a modified version of the same would help their rotation stay healthy until postseason.
Mark P
3:09
This would work in theory, except the Dodgers also always have at least a couple of major pitching injuries during the season, and so the young arms are pressed into action earlier.

I also kind of think LA tends to over-complicate the pitching plans come playoff time.  Instead of shoehorning starters into relief roles, maybe just either build up the bullpen, or have only one SP designated as the playoff bullpen guy (like Urias in 2020)

Do you see Dustin May’s future as a starter or reliever?

Do you see the Dodgers making minor moves this off-season and possibly resetting tax penalties and going after Ohtani next offseason?
Mark P
3:10
If Ohtani is available, the Dodgers are 100 percent going to be pursuing him, tax or no tax
Wilmer the Thrillmer

With Muncy, Bellinger and Taylor all coming off poor years and letting Justin Turner walk, it seems like the Dodgers window is closing.... wait they just won 111 games. What gives?
Mark P
3:12
It's pretty wild that the Dodgers had such a great season despite having such a big chunk of their roster either having off-years, or being hurt

Who ends the decade w/ more WS championships? LAD, ATL, HOU?
Mark P
3:12
Ooh, a two-poll chat!
Who ends the 2020s with more championships?

Astros (32.2% | 68 votes)

Braves (18.5% | 39 votes)

Dodgers (49.3% | 104 votes)

Total Votes: 211
3:13
This being a chat directed at LA fans, I have a suspicion which poll outcome will win....

trading lux?
Mark P
3:15
I guess this can't be ruled out, but Lux looks like he can be at least a decent big league regular.  That may seem disappointing for a former top prospect, but any team would happily take getting an everyday player from a first-round pick.
WS Poll
3:15
Should have given a fourth option of none. All could end the decade with 1 WS each.
Mark P
3:16
Rats, you're right.  Personally, I think the Blue Jays are about to win the next seven WS anyway.

Do you think LA getting Senga would help rotation?
Mark P
3:17
Absolutely.  Senga seems like a really interesting pitcher, and maybe even a gem in MLB
Matin
3:17
How about a return of Ross Stripling to the Dodgers? He could be the next Tyler Anderson
Mark P
3:18
It feels like the Jays already turned Stripling into "Tyler Anderson" in 2022.
Number 1 Dodger

Do you believe Beli will have a good season in a different uniform.
Mark P
3:20
His hitting dropoff was so drastic that I'm doubtful he can ever really regain his old form.  Scott Boras is always going to promote his players, but he did have a logical point when he recently noted that Bellinger is finally healthy and will have a normal offseason (i.e. no lockout and access to a team's training staff) to fully prep for 2023.  It's possible this is the missing ingredient to get him back on track, who knows.

I have a feeling Dansby ends up in LA. What are your thoughts on that match?
Mark P
3:22
I picked him to re-sign with Atlanta, but (this will be a common refrain) I said the same thing about Freeman last year.  Having the Dodgers sign two "oh, they're definitely staying in ATL" stars in consecutive offseasons would be wacky, but stranger things have happened
Juan
3:22
I like Jose abreu at dh for the dodgers what to do you think
Mark P
3:23
Not a bad fit, except if Abreu is signed, he and Freeman have 1B/DH fully locked up.  A team that likes to juggle its roster and mix and match positions might prefer to keep the DH position open

Question Submitted Earlier: Miguel Vargas was on 2022 post-season roster but never appeared despite an offense that was AWOL. Total waste of roster spot. No LA Times writer replied to this question. A guess would suffice. Thanks for your time.
Mark P
3:25
Vargas didn't exactly tear it up at the plate in his limited MLB playing time, so the Dodgers couldn't have thought he'd provide much of a spark (in the most important games of the year, no less) over more established bats.

To be clear, teams never expect to use all 26 guys over the course of a playoff series.  If they do, frankly, something has gone awry

Any chance I was faking my injury in order to play hooky so that I could go to the local museum with my friends, and possibly to a fancy restaurant -- maybe even to an Angels' game?
Mark P
3:26
Great, now you've got me listening to Yello's "Oh Yeah"
Jake
3:28
Assuming the Angels don’t want to trade Ohtani during the off-season, if they find themselves out of playoff contention by the time the summer trade deadline happens and Ohtani doesn’t want to stay, they should definitely trade him and get some value instead of nothing. If the Dodgers offered Diego Cartaya, Ryan Pepiot, Jose Ramos, and maybe a couple mlb ready players or lower lvl prospects would the Angels accept? They would be getting 3 of the Dodgers top 10 prospects including their #1 plus more.
Mark P
3:29
I find it hard to believe that one of Arte Moreno's final moves as owner would be to trade a generational superstar to the crosstown rival.  No matter what the Dodgers might offer
