Hello and welcome to our panel discussion!

Arvind Subramaniam asks, "Are you broadly satisfied with the economic report in the last 25 years?"

Uday Kotak answers, " I think the most radical reform needed is in private sector. Two or three years sooner or later, but banking system is lagging in economy and we need to take the plunge."

Pratap Mehta adds, "Just giving a propagation. Biggest difference between India and China is gender. One of the big pre social conditions to succeed is the way it transforms gender. We have to dig deeper and say that this is not just about reforms. There is a much bigger economic and social change and we need to dig in that change. For 21st century economy, there is not a lot that has been captured by the reformers and these themes are being sidelined."

Subramaniam goes on to say, "You asked for two kind of reforms. Can I offer two analytical reforms? The first conceptual point here is we have gone from socialism,
fertilizer problem, economy problem, we are not getting the crux of the problem. No matter what the Finance Minister says, he is more optimistic. It also has to do with the fact that over time some institutions have lost the legitimacy and some have gained. It's a big problem that we need to sort out."

Subramaniam adds his second point, "When we talk about health and education, I like to think it in a different way. Why has the 75 years of democratic government never put enough effort to make the health and education better.
Competitive federalism has done better according to the government. Apart from in Delhi, I haven't come across any better system or propaganda or policy."
