It won't increase it
2:16
And while there were no arrests in that case, remember that the NFL needs no arrests to punish players accused of such things as domestic violence.

You think Ben skates by and gets his fair share of passes on his miscues more so than others on the team.
Ed Bouchette
2:17
So what miscue has Ben Roethlisberger "skated by" on in his career?

If the Steelers transition Bell, is the goal a trade or to keep him?
Ed Bouchette

Trade

Would the Steelers accept anything less than a first round pick for Brown?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
They may have to.

Do u thinknthe team is split 50/50 on wanting AB back?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
I think you might see him losing some of the support he's had after the latest news.

What does a passing game or run game coordinator do if the OC calls plays and position coaches coach the players?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
Truly, some teams have too many coaches.
Next thing they'll have is a defensive run-game coordinator and a defensive pass-game coordinator

Wouldn't you want a GM who has recently played for NFL and knows talent when he see's it?  Steelers need to get up with the times
Ed Bouchette
2:22
So you're saying the only ones who can determine talent is if they played the game? So, if you're fighting crime you want your cops who have committed crimes because they then have that experience? Have you ever heard of Art Rooney Jr. Dan's brother. He played a little football at Saint Vincent College but that's it. He drafted four Hall of Famers in 1974. I think he knew talent. So does Kevin Colbert or else the Steelers would not have had the kinds of success they've had since they hired him in 2000.

2:22
Do you get a sense the Steelers prefer a CB, ILB or Edge in the first round?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
Way too early for that but I think they need help at all 3.

If Antonio Brown gets handed some kind of suspension, once these allegations all play out, do the Steelers have any recourse to release him and NOT have to take the salary cap hit?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
If he is suspended, they probably could go after some of  his signing bonus, and if successful, reduce their cap by any amount they would get back. That's rare, though.

Why would the Steelers put transition tag on Bell and lose a probable 3rd round comp pick?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
If they think they can tag him and another team signs him to a contract, they match it and then deal him to that team for a draft pick. It sounds way too convoluted to me. I don't think they can pull that off.

Question I've always wondered. HoF bylaws say 80% vote needed for induction, but also require a minimum of 4 inductees every year. What happens if there aren't 4 guys with the necessary vote?
Ed Bouchette
2:27
Glad you asked that because they never say this but in that case, they would take the next highest vote-getter even if it's under 80 percent. Some claim that is how Al Davis got into the HOF

Ed, when giving your presentation for a potential HOF candidate (like Faneca), is it bad etiquette to compare that candidates stats with those already enshrined?  Or do you strictly stick to that candidates own merits for induction?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
I do a little of both. No, it's not bad etiquette because those guys are already in and you just want to show how he compares to current HOF. For example, I pointed out that only 5 guards in the HOF had more Pro Bowls than Faneca's 9.

Everyone loves to watch a train wreck, is that why we are so in love with the Steelers??? Been a fan for the past 60 years!!!
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Well, they were certainly a train wreck for your first 10 years or so as a fan, and that train seems to be coming around the bend again.

Are the Steelers as confident in Tomlin righting the ship as they portray in public?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
If they weren't, he would not still be their coach
Jim66
2:29
What is your best guess on Steelers resigning either or both V. McDonald and Jesse James? If you had to choose one over other to sign which would you sign?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Vance McDonald will not be a free agent, James will.

Great article on adding a booth official!  The NFL claims to be somewhat opposed to that idea because it could slow down the game.  Dont you think most fans would prefer  game potentially ten minutes longer to a faster game where refs make bad game-affecting decisions?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
I know Saints fans would have preferred it.
But as I noted in that story, I think it could speed things up, not slow them down

Ed - Thanks for your chats.  How confident are you the Steelers will address their secondary and linebacker issues during FA and the draft?  I used to think they were only a player or two away but looking how tight the defenses were in the Super Bowl, I am not so sure?
Ed Bouchette
2:32
I thought they were going to address their ILB issue in last year's draft and they came up empty. They'll have plenty to address elsewhere too if AB and Bell are gone.
MeanJoeBlue
2:32
Ed, to help with the linebacker situation, do you envision the steelers switching back to a 4-3 alignment again?
Ed Bouchette
2:33
No. They've been with a 3-4 since 1982 and their players are built for a 3-4. Part of the problem too is they don't have enough good DL to do that.

2:33
Hi Ed, do you guys have some sort of sports database that you use to answer or confirm facts when answering questions and writing stories?
Ed Bouchette
2:35
Not really. It's rapid fire answers. Sometimes, I'll take a quick look online to look up something or confirm, but these chats are not set up for much research time. What I won't do is use a stat I'm not sure about, or an opinion that I don't trust. But, for example, when someone asks if I think AB will be here next year, it's an opinion, not a fact, based on my experience covering the team and talking to people.
