Good afternoon, let's begin

Hi Ed, The NFL QB's benefit from protections that give them longer careers than the other guys. At this rate, the QB's are going to eat up a bigger and bigger pieces of the cap at the expense of the other players. Why don't non QB's push for a max contract in the NFL?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
You have to understand that the QB is the most important player on any team, by far. Thus, he should get paid better than anyone else. It's the same in the movies. The big stars get paid so much more than the bit actors. To me, playing QB in the NFL is the toughest position in sports for everything he has to do and with so many players trying to knock his head off. I don't think they get paid enough.

Hi Ed. Dont you think its time to move off from Ben? Maybe try to get Rivers, Cutler or Cousins? They will never win with Ben.

Thank you for our weekly laugh of the chat. Please drive home safely.

Who are/what are some of the draft analysts/websites you like to go to for information?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
My favorite is nfldraftscout.com for many reasons. I also like Walter Football.

Why don't the Steelers show  Bell their best offer and whether he chooses to accept or decline it , time move on ?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Maybe they will do just that.

Do you still think the Steelers are intent on signing Bell to a long term contract?  I hope they don't do it simply because he's asking for too much and it will be to the detriment of the team.
Ed Bouchette
2:05
I do think they are intent on doing it, but they were intent on doing it last year as well and did not get a long-term deal done. I'm not convinced they will play next season with Bell

2:05
What do you hear from the Steelers is their top priority in the draft and what if any plans they have in free agency?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
Their top priority has to be an inside linebacker. It may be a tie with halfback if they do not keep Bell. Have heard little about who they might be interested in as a free agent.

Ed, why couldn't the Steelers make a move for Marcus Peters? It would seem like a cheaper upgrade to Haden?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
He comes with some baggage. I'm not sure they want more baggage.
Ken Ward
2:07
Ed, do you really think the Steelers will sign a mega agreement with Bell? I would have thought it would have been done by now if they were close on terms. Love your chats, thanks.
Ed Bouchette
2:07
I don't know they were ever close. Bell said they appeared closer this time, but he also said the deadline was Feb. 20, which was a week ago.

Has the Willie Gay era in PGH come to a close?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
I don't see how or why they would keep him. He's slipped to probably their No. 5 corner -- at best -- and has a $1.75 M salary

Hey Ed,, Do you think the Steelers will go for Timmons? And if so will drafting a inside linebacker still be a priority in the 1st round?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
I think they'll certainly take a look at Timmons when Miami releases him. He should not cost that much and he is durable, a leader and can ease the depth problem there if nothing else. They would still need to get an ILB in first or second round, in my opinion.

How likely are the rumors on the Steelers moving one of their corners to play safety? (Sutton, Allen, Gay and/or moving Davis to FS)
Ed Bouchette
2:10
It may depend on a few things, such as if they sign one in free agency or draft one.
Dave
2:11
What are some positions you think the Steelers might address in free agency rather than the draft? ILB?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
RB if Bell leaves, but I also think they will draft one. One of these: safety or ILB.
Dave
2:12
In your opinion, do you think Ryan Shazier will ever play again?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
As I stated before, I'm not going to speculate on that. And that's all it would be, speculation.

Small sample size for Sutton last year, but he played pretty well. Any chance he beats out Burns next year?   Also, please tell me there is no chance that Haden is a cap casualty next year.
Ed Bouchette
2:13
No, Haden is here. I would not preclude Sutton from challenging Burns.

Do you think they will try to get an extension done for Ben that could possible open up some cap room?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
I think they will wait until next year for that.

Ed, much talk about ILB, S and possibly WR in the draft, but with the likely loss of Hubbard and Foster in the final year of contract, do you think they need to pick an OL?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
Yes, I do believe they need to get an OL somewhere in the draft. Maybe 2
Grandma Anuskiewicz
2:14
Thanks for taking questions Ed. Pittsburgh has an OL filled with pro bowlers and a couple all-pros, a FB who made the pro bowl, and a TB who is considered one of the best in the NFL. So why do the Steelers never seem to be able to inflict their will on an opposing defense, especially third-and-short?
Ed Bouchette
2:15
It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Now it's Randy Fichtner's turn to figure it out.

Do you think the angry fans who want Tomlin fired for not winning the Superbowl with the "best talent" in the NFL are the same ones who wanted him fired before last year because he couldn't draft or recognize talent?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
They are the same ones who wanted Bill Cowher fired and now think Tomlin should be like him.

With all the talk of resigning Timmons does that mean that he would be the direct replacement of V. Williams who was his replacement or is it more of a backup ILB option? Doesn't really seem to resolve the need to replace Shazier...
Ed Bouchette
2:18
He can play both positions and would add depth to one in great need of it. They still need a No. 1 guy in there.

Steelers not among final teams talking about Marcus Peters - why ?
