Good afternoon, let's begin a tad early
Krugerrand

Ed, did I miss some big news?  Titanswire reported "Titans safeties awestruck by silent Steelers legend: Byard got a chance to meet Polamalu prior to the team’s game Thursday in Pittsburgh."  I can't find anything in Pittsburgh news outlets about Polamalu being back in Pittsburgh.  Can you add any information to what that might have been?  Has the ice thawed?
Ed Bouchette
1:55
I didn't see him, didn't hear anyone say they saw him. I'll bet he went to the Titans' hotel to say hello to Dick LeBeau

Has it surfaced , that Gilbert's drug use was injury related?
Ed Bouchette
1:55
That's the guessing that's going on. No one has said for sure why he took whatever he took.

I just don't see the Steelers being able to beat New England twice this year, let alone once. Did the Steelers do enough on defense in your opinion to solve Brady?
Ed Bouchette
1:57
I don't understand why a team supposedly cannot beat another twice, even New England. Playing at New England is more difficult than playing at Heinz, so it would behoove the Steelers to win that Dec. 17 game. They are more competitive on defense since they last played the Patriots and this time they should have Le'Veon Bell and better receivers available to them on offense.

Does Merriweather get a start at safety this week? Might shore up the defense with Jackson at OLB and Paxton at ILB. Not confident that's the solution.

You're on the wrong chat, bud

Yay or nay on Thanksgiving Day games (and Thursday games in general)?
Ed Bouchette
1:59
Too many games. Get rid of Thursday except for Thanksgiving, which used to belong to the colleges

I think the Steelers will slip up somewhere (maybe against either Cincy or Ravens) in addition to losing to Patriots, thus forcing us to play in Foxboro in January. I feel Steelers need to literally win out to have any chance at home-field advantage.
Ed Bouchette
2:00
If they beat the Patriots and lose to someone else, they still can claim the No. 1 seed, provided the Jaguars don't have the same record

Do you really think Ben retires if they win the super bowl?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
I don't, but I wouldn't say that decisively.

Would the Steelers exer think of getting Tyrod Taylor? I don't think that the bills will give him a contract extension?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
What would they do with him?
Bob
2:01
Hi Ed. Its great to see Cameron Sutton on the roster.  Given his limited practice time, is there any way he plays against the packers unless there are multiple injuries, as in, the last one off the bench?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
No, I don't think he's ready to play.

Why pay Goodell $40 mil when you can find a younger puppet and pay him $10 mil?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
I agree

2:02
Ed, To this point who do you see as the biggest positive surprises on Steelers' defense and offence?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
Defense -- Mike Hilton and to some extent Vince Williams, although Williams play did not surprise me. On offense, JuJu is a surprise and so is Martavis Bryant only not a pleasant one
B VanDyke
2:04
Is Cam Heyward the best steeler DL man since Joe Greene?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
Whoa, Cam is certainly good and you could be correct but I thought Aaron Smith was outstanding and they played a different kind of defense then that did not allow the ends to rush the QB the way they do now.  But in the 3-4 era, there have not been a lot of what you'd call great ends. Cam would certainly be high on my list.

Ed, Why do National broadcasters (Collinsworth, Romo, etc.) have insight and information about the Steelers that I don't hear from you local guys who are here everyday? I.E..Martavis ans Ben relationship and why no huddle till recently.
Ed Bouchette
2:06
Because they sit down with the coaches, who tell them stuff because TV pays them billions to do so.

What nfl coaches do you think are better than Tomlin?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
I put MT among the top echelon that starts with Belichick. I like McCarthy, Andy Reid, Harbaugh. Bill O'Brien and the guy in Jacksonville are making an impression too.

Have you seen Bryant McFadden as a football analyst on 120 Sports? I am impressed with his analysis and commentary. What are your thoughts on his mental acumen for the game during his two stints with the Steelers? DId he stand out as a student of the game?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
I don't even know what 120 Sports is.
Andrew in ATL
2:11
Ed, do you think the Steelers plan on keeping Brian Allen or will they release him to make room for Sutton or Gilbert when he returns?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
I think they want to keep Allen.

How bad is jujus hamstring tweak?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
MT called it "small"

If Hubbard or Villanuea were to be injured can BJ Finney be used at OT?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I think they'd go with Jerald Hawkins
Brett
2:12
Do the Steelers practice with the motorized tackling dummies they had last year?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
No
Matt
2:13
just a question, not a critique of Tomlin, do you believe him when he tells you that he had no reaction to Gilbert suspension? disappointed? unfortunate? shocked?  nothing?
