Ed Bouchette's Steelers chat: 11.6.18
powered byJotCast
Ed Bouchette
2:18
He's a rookie who needs time to develop
Leon
2:18
Hi Ed, how did the Steelers become Dan Rooney's family's? What about all of his brothers who were involved in the team?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
There is not enough time nor space to detail that here.
iowasteelersfan
2:19
Has 54 passed up 44 in the base D ILB position?
Ed Bouchette
2:21
No, Jon Bostic and Vince Williams are the base starters. L.J. Fort may have bypassed Tyler Matakevich as a backup in the passing sub defense

2:21
hi Ed, what do you think is wrong with Boswell? another missed extra point, is it all mental?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
My appointment to examine Boswell's mind fell through the other day, so I'm not sure. He's not hurt, if that's what you want to know, so if it's physical it's a technique thing and if it's all in his mind, he hasn't let on.
Ryno
2:22
Thoughts on Dupree's latest performances?  Is his best still to come?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
He's performing better as the season grows
Buddy
2:23
Would making Bell primarily a slot receiver with Conner the primary running back work full time?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
No.
LA Matt
2:23
Are we guaranteed a compensatory pick for Bell whether he plays this year or not?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
If he signs elsewhere next year as a UFA, then that will weigh heavily in their favor of getting a high comp pick.

2:24
Any sign Bell will appear, or do you think he’s really going to sit out the rest of the season as others on ESPN think?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
My thinking has been wrong, as has ESPN's thinking, so I'm thinking none of us know.
Alex LA
2:25
Aren't we still very thin at CB?  Should I be worried?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
You would not be a Steelers fan if you could not worry about something, so go ahead and worry about it.
LA Matt
2:26
Do you personally like the direction that today's NFL is going in with all of the scoring or do you miss the good old days when defenses ruled?
Ed Bouchette
2:26
The good old days I miss have nothing to do with the NFL.

2:26
Why has Sutton not been given more of a chance at outside corner?
Ed Bouchette
2:27
Maybe because the coaches believe Coty Sensabaugh is the better choice right now. Remember that Sutton missed half of his rookie season with an injury and was filling in for Burnett as a strong safety/linebacker while Burnett was injured. He needs more time to practice playing cornerback, in my opinion.

Bell would not be a full time slot receiver, but he could create major match-up issues for a defense if he does play that position occasionally.
Ed Bouchette
2:28
Only if you are running him as your RB and then flip him into the slot, such as in the no-huddle, as they did in the past. But they're doing that with Conner now. That's what creates mismatches
iowasteelersfan
2:29
What would you guess the locker room will be like if bell returns - welcoming or stand offish?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
professional
Adam
2:29
Do you think the D has actually improved or is it mainly competition?  I can't help but worry about our games against Brady, Rivers, and Brees.
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Then, as I told the earlier questioner, you are a true Steelers fan.

2:30
Does Bell even care about winning - or just about the money?
Tom
2:31
Ed,  If you were not covering the Steelers would you watch much NFL?
Ed Bouchette
2:31
I'm sure he cares about winning, but maybe there is an imbalance there. I do remind people once in awhile they don't call it "professional" football for nothing.
Probably more so
2:32
JotCast just had a problem, so let's work this out. That last answer is to Iowasteelersfan question about Bell. And here is my answer to Tom:
Maybe more so.
Peter
2:32
thoughts on new MNF broadcast team? I think they are dreadful
Ed Bouchette
2:33
Haven't heard them yet.
Adam
2:33
Have we officially given up on Justin Hunter?
Ed Bouchette
2:33
He is still on the team, so there's nothing official about it
LA Matt
2:33
I may be old school but, although I don't mind celebrating a touchdown or a BIG play, the staged theatrics has to go! It is embarrassing and sends a bad message to young fans!
Ed Bouchette
2:34
My favorite touchdown celebration is the one James Conner performs: He shakes the hands of his offensive linemen
