They used the bye week practices to give him more work, that's all
Troy

Of the remaining 8 teams the Steelers play, only 2 of the 8 have winning records. Can the Steelers overcome  playing down to inferior teams? It will be the difference between getting a bye or having the wildcard.

We should know starting at 1 p.m. Sunday in Indianapolis

ED, maybe u will get ur wish? I heard on the FAN today its possible GB sunday night in Week 12 will be flexed to early game and looking at Week 14 home vs Ravens that could very well be flexed out also. Division should basically be wrapped by Turkey Day w wins at Indy and vs Tenn next Thursday! Ur thoughts??

Just when you think everything is going great, things can happen that go the other way. Things were looking great for Green Bay at one point too and then, oh-oh

Any chance Andy Russel gets into OF?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
They're trying to get him nominated as a senior candidate for 2019 induction. I'm hearing there might be a change in the rules for 2020 -- NFL's 100th season -- to allow more than a few seniors to go in at once. That might be his best chance.

Good to see Troy at the USC game (with Ju Ju) - does the blood still run cold with the Steeler organization?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
I haven't seen him anywhere near the Steelers facility nor at Heinz Field, so I'd guess yes.

With extra time during the bye week, would coaches look ahead to not only the Colts, but also the Thursday night game against the Titans?
Ed Bouchette
2:21
I would guess they would give the Titans a peak, some of them anyway, but they'll never admit as much.

Have the Steelers moved away from using their "two minute offense" in the middle of games? Seemed like they used the hurry-up style much more last season.
Ed Bouchette
2:21
Don't have the stats at hand, but I would guess they've cut way back on its use

Basically it boils down to if Ben passes 30 times we lose, if he passes under 30 we win. Why do pass over 30 times a game? (Please don't say they have to catch up in games.
Ed Bouchette

Other than this year's Jacksonville loss, that's generally the way it happens -- you pass when you fall behind. Vs. Jags, they passed when they were ahead. It's often not so much that if the game plan is you run a lot you win and if you pass a lot you lose, You run more often when you have the lead and pass more often when you fall behind. It's a fact.

Do you feel the Steelers need to draft a blue chip tight end, or is our current group sufficient to get the job done?  I like the group but interested in what you think.  So many fans down on Jesse James.
Ed Bouchette
2:23
I think they'll draft a tight end in April

halfway thru the season do you think its time to unleash james harrison now
Ed Bouchette
2:24
Unleash him at the expense of T.J. Watt? No, I don't think they'll "unleash" him. He may play a little more in certain situations, but it's not as if they are holding him back like an ace in the hole to pounce on someone, although they did do that in Kansas City

Thought of this again at the end of the last game. Why don't teams do victory formation from the shotgun? You can surround the QB with the same 3 protectors, can keep the QB out of the muck near the line, and, I'd argue, it would be easier to recover a fumbled snap.
Ed Bouchette
2:24
It also might be easier to fumble a snap.

I'm curious how much gamesmanship exists at the pro level knowing that every team has all the video to study from week to week.  Do coaches hold back intentionally, even at the expense of a regular season game so that some of their "best stuff" is not out there to be game-planned for?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
Yes, they do

2:25
Ed, which were the better teams...the '70's Steelers or 2000's Pats?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
I cannot believe you are asking that question.

2:25
Wentz just put up 51 points and completed 15 passes?  Why do the Steelers insist on being a passing team when passing teams never win consistently?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
You mean like the Patriots?

Hi Ed, think the Martavis flap is over?  He bitched, he sat, he wasn't traded, now get to work & run deep routes so they can win games?  Thoughts?
Ed Bouchette
2:26
Not much to add there.
ryanh
2:26
dont you think its time to get rid of the empty set formation in the redzone i feel like that tips the defense what we plan on doing
Ed Bouchette
2:27
In an opposite manner, it's like when they used to pack everyone in with no wide receivers at the one. They let everyone know they were going to run it, right?

Big fan here in Canada...........Ed, would Ju Ju in the slot work, keeping Bryant on the outside, work?....................would be potent if it clicked, with all 3 on the field
Ed Bouchette
2:27
That was kind of the plan.

When can we expect to know if Martavis Bryant will be active this week? The PG reported that he worked with the "1s" on Monday, so does that mean that he likely will start?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
Mike Tomlin said today he will play. "Starting" sometimes depends on what formation they open the game with.

2:28
You feeling okay?  Pretty light on the snark today
Ed Bouchette

Stick it

If they activate Sutton do you think he will push Gay out of the slot position?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
That's already happened with Mike Hilton

How much time do you spend thinking about and working on Hall of Fame stuff? Is it year-round?
