He may have coached it longer than he did.

Good Day Ed!!! What are the numbers are you hearing or think the Steelers are offering to Bell.
Ed Bouchette
2:21
I reported last summer that Bell turned down a 5-year deal that would have paid him more than $12 million annually. Bell told ESPN this week it averaged $13.3 million. Bell said he wants minimum average of $14.5 million. So somewhere between the two I would imagine

How can the Steelers even justify paying $14 or $15 million for Bell when the next highest paid RB gets $8 million? Even with his assertion that he's a #2 WR also, can't you find a good RB & a good WR BOTH for $15 million?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
They already have their wide receivers. They need a back who can run. Bell can do that, but as you said, that's a lot of money  to pay that much over market

Gerry Dulac wrote that James Conner isn't seen as a potential starting RB by the Steelers brain trust.  He was a 3rd round pick, which is pretty high for a guy you don't see as a potential starter.  I liked what I saw last year when he averaged 4.5 yards per carry, and think he has the potential to be a good starter.  What's your take?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
It just means they are not counting on that, does not mean he eventually could not convince them of it by his play. But they would need to find a No. 1 if Bell leaves other than Conner.

I know this question will be asked over and over. Is Bell essential for a Super Bowl run? Wouldn't all that money he wants go a long way in correcting the Defensive woes?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
They have not yet made the Super Bowl with him, if that answers your question.

Keep trying to justify in my head paying Bell the money because I like him, I just can't do it. It cripples us defensively, why are we hell bent on franchising him?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
The Steelers hate to lose great players and Bell is one. It has not happened often in the free agent era except when they believed a player was either near the end (Faneca) or slowed by injury (Woodson).

What do you think we would get in a compensation pick when Bryant leaves next year? Does it depend on his production this year or with his new teams first year?
Ed Bouchette
2:26
It depends on his contract, I believe, and his playing time. Maybe a third or fourth.

Did any guys standout to you at the combine that you believe the steelers will select.
Ed Bouchette
2:26
I wasn't there and did not watch it.

Good afternoon Ed.  I read an interesting piece (can't remember the source) suggesting that the Steelers might rescind the tag on Bell depending upon how things break for them in the draft.  My question is, are there any rules and regulations regarding if/when they could rescind the tag on Bell?
Ed Bouchette
2:27
If he doesn't sign it, they can pull it back

2 hours to go.  Any chance of a last minute blink on either side?  Speaking of Bell's situation,  of course.
Ed Bouchette
2:28
Always that chance, but I don't see it.

2:28
Lawrence Timmons current status?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
Still under contract with Dolphins

Do you think the Bell negotiations look like Barry Foster all over again?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Bell has performed at a high level a lot longer than Barry Foster did.

Hey Ed, do you think that the Steelers decision with Bell is being impacted by Ben going year to year at this point?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
No I don't.

Ed,  I would trade Bell for 2 no 2's.  Plenty of running backs coming out this year.  Think that is reasonable?  Thank you.
Ed Bouchette
2:29
I don't think a team would give up that much and then have to pay him what he wants

Hi Ed.  Any news on the possibility of Timmons coming back to the steelers?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
Nothing new
Anthony
2:30
Do you think Mike Mitchell will be on the team next year?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
I think it is possible, yes.

2:30
If Bell is tagged, what does that do to the Steelers cap situation?
Ed Bouchette
2:31
It pretty much blows it up and will make them restructure other contracts as they did with DeCastro and Tuitt. Then leave little left to sign any other decent UFAs
Salami Phil
2:31
When do you anticipate the Steelers trying to work out a deal with Chris Boswell. He was a huge weapon for them in 2017.
Ed Bouchette
2:31
I'd be surprised if they haven't been working on one.
MeanfellaMike
2:32
How much stock do the Steelers brass put into the combine? Or do they look to just confirm what they thought they knew about a guy?
Ed Bouchette
2:32
The combine has become way overrated, thanks to the media and the NFL. The most useful info for teams are the physicals and the interviews.
Mark
2:32
Ed, do you expect the young secondary players, particularly Burns and Davis to improve under Coach Bradley's tutelage?
Ed Bouchette
2:33
You would think they would improve anyway but Tom Bradley is a good coach and can only help them do so.

Where are we spending to much money if we are always in cap problems.
