Good afternoon, let's begin
John

Ed, What's the holdup on Draft picks signing contracts? Wouldn't it behoove them to sign immediately? Are they protected from injuries in Rookie camp or OTA's if they're not signed?  Thanks!
Ed Bouchette
2:01
The only rookie left unsigned is first-rounder Terrell Edmunds. There is some slight wiggle room on guaranteed money, etc. Yes, they are protected against injury

After observing Mason Rudolph do you think he will be the future franchise quarterback or would the team be drafting another quarterback next year
Ed Bouchette
2:03
I have seen him now in one rookie practice and 4 spring practices with the vets. You wojuldn't mind if I wait to see him another day or two before I proclaim him as the next Ben Roethlisberger would you? I will say he looks like a good quarterback from what I have seen.

Hi Ed, thanks for the chat.  Do you think that if the 1st team defense had an opportunity to practice against Bell and not 2nd/3rd string backs that it would have ultimately improved the run defense?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
No. It's practice and they don't tackle. And they also play against runners with different styles than Bell.
Shawn
2:04
Hi Mr. Bouchette, thanks for taking my question.  Would you consider, if asked, to appear on espn's around the horn?  I think you would be the best person to represent Pittsburgh journalism
Ed Bouchette
2:04
For the kind of money they pay, you betcha

Do you know how Mr. Rooney voted on the new National Anthem policy?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
I believe he was for it, but he acknowledged there was no formal vote.

Does Jaylen Samuels intrigue you as much as me? NC State had a stud program with seven draft picks this year. This kid played many roles on offense. Could he be Slash 2.0?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
No, because they're not going to play him at quarterback. However, NC State DID use him at QB in the wildcat in short yardage at times. Yes, I am intrigued, which is why I wrote about him during rookie camp

Ed - chances bell shows up before September?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
Look for Labor Day to be his reporting day.
Chris
2:06
Ed...do you think the Steelers have any chance of signing Michal Kendricks the inside LB from the Philadelphia Eagles ?
Ed Bouchette
2:07
I don't think they have an interest.
Doug
2:07
Ed - big fan of your Steelers coverage.  You seem to have an objective view of all things Steelers and your insight seems to fall in line with what the Steelers front office thinks and does.  Do you ever laugh at some of the other media outlets with their terrible coverage of the Steelers?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
Thank you (even though my brother's name is not Doug). No, I don't laugh because I realize what they are. There are some very credible people who cover the Steelers for several outlets on a daily basis.

Ed, we can't keep Jones and Dobbs of the two who will stay?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
Those two will decide that this summer along with Mason Rudolph, whose quick maturation could help them decide

Are we better without Martavis?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
I thought Bryant was inconsistent and largely unproductive last season. If No. 2 pick James Washington lives up to expectation, I would say yes they are better off.

Do you have the Dec 23rd game circled yet? Are you ready for “Laissez les bon temps rouler” as the natives say? Get the Christmas party started early Ed!!!
Ed Bouchette
2:10
I love to visit New Orleans, one of my favorite cities. I'm disappointed they play there two days before Christmas.

Is there any team in the NFL willing to give Bell all of the $17 mil per year that he is asking for?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
There might have been had the Steelers not released him. I was told by scouts for another team that the Browns, flush with cap space, might have paid the price.
2:12
I didn't mean released him. I mean had the Steelers not franchised Bell.

With five of the first eight games against divisional opponents, do you think Tomlin will stress the importance of a fast start out of the gate? What do you think of the schedule and the "backloading" of tougher opponents later in the season?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
I'm sort of selfish because when the schedule comes out, I don't think of its affect on the Steelers but its affect on ME and making my travel arrangements. I was surprised they have all but one of their division games in the first half of the season. They did not get off to a fast start last yer and finished 13-3 but that second half of the schedule is a much tougher one.

What's the story on JuJu missing OTA time?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
He has attended, just not practiced, so that must mean he has some sort of minor injury, as does Cam Heyward, for example.

On a Mount Rushmore of Steelers QBs, along with 12  and 7 who are your #3 and #4 faces and why? HOF Dudley maybe or anyone else from the distant past?
Ed Bouchette
2:16
Bill Dudley was a running back. You'd have to put Bobby Layne there. I would not have a fourth.
Luthuli Butler
2:16
I’ll admit I’m biased. Tennessee fan also, but does Josh Dobbs have any chance to make the squad this year? Was hoping he’d eventually replace Ben.
Ed Bouchette
2:17
Josh will have to prove some things this summer. His only chance, as I see it, is if Mason Rudolph comes on so strongly in camp that they think he can be No. 2 this year and trade Landry Jones. That's a long shot.

2:17
Ed, do you buy the “improved communication” we are hearing about with the defense?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
I buy their quest to have better communication but we won't know that until they start playing real games.
Alan
2:18
Do you think The Steelers front office have any negative opinions on Bell's various tweets and songs complaining about how he's perceived? Or do they not mind since he seems to be well regarded in the locker room?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
If they have problems with it, that's their problem because they bought into everything about Bell this year -- holdouts, tweets and all. It's not like he did not have a track record with any of it.
