Ed Bouchette

Welcome, let's begin
Scott in Dallas

IF Ben retires after the season would you expect the Steelers to try to sign K. Cousins, at the astronomical rate that FA QB's get, or try to trade up in the draft for a QB? Would they consider starting L. Jones for a year and hoping for a top 10 pick in 2019 to get their next QB like when they got Ben at 11 in 2004?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
Signing Cousins based on what he's done would not be a bad idea. Moving high in the draft would of course be costly. Turning a potential Super Bowl team over to Landry Jones or Josh Dobbs would be a gamble

Do you think there is more to the Bryant story?  Seems to me he did not do something and you would think the Steeler's would have been on top of that?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
I don't think some people in the Steelers organization are happy with the NFL for dragging their feet over the delay in reinstating Bryant fully. They believe he's done everything they've asked.

Do you have any information on the James Connor shoulder injury?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Nothing new, other than he was to be examined in Pittsburgh, which usually means an MRI.
Tom

Two years in a row the Steelers did well until injuries in the playoffs. Both times they counted on players that to minimal to no snaps most of the season (remember Fitz and Coates). Why not spread some snaps out so when the injuries do happen you at least have an idea who you can count on?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
That's not a bad idea, but if you play some of those people and they mess up and you lose a game that costs you the playoffs or division title or a playoff seed, what then?
Cameron
2:05
How would would grade the Rookie class so far into camp?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
You mean after two full practices of pads? I won't.
Curtis in Canada
2:06
How many WR's make the team and what do you think the depth chart will look like?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
First, you have to tell me who is healthy and who remains eligible. Under normal circumstances I would say the starters are AB and Bryant with Eli Rogers in the slot and JuJu as the No. 4  either in the slot or on the outside. Sammie Coates may be in there somewhere but first he and JuJu along with Bryant have to get on the field. After that, I think DHB and/or Justin Hunter.

Hi Ed!  7 injuries in the first practice seems like too many.  What gives?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
Don't panic. Nothing seems to be serious and they don't tee it up for real for more than a month.

Are the Steelers going to bring in another Running Back?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
They may have to if James Conner remains out for long
Curtis in Canada

Do you think the CB's they have are good enough? Do you think they could add one before week 1?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
I don't know yet. I know they are encouraged with rookie Cam Sutton, but Willie Gay is over the hill and Senquez Golson is still getting hurt and cannot get on the field. So depth remains a big problem at the position.

Hi Ed!  Ben and Harrison out due to contusion of the birth certificate?  And if so, does that reflect well on Tomlin's approach given so many injuries at the beginning of camp?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
Ben missed one practice to attend a funeral and, really, do you need to see 39-year-old James Harrison practice for a few weeks? And what does any of that have to do with early injuries to others?
John
2:11
How has Demarcus Ayers looked so far? We could use a legitimate punt returner.
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I'm not sure he's a strong candidate to return punts.

Hi Ed, what do make of all the public remarks between Big Ben and MB? Shouldn’t this talk be kept in house and the air being cleared just between them?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I'm amused by it.
2:13
Yes, we have two: It's spelled Martavis and it's spelled Conner.
J.Splat
2:13
Do you get the sense that Tomlin is aware of his clock management deficiencies?  If so, how could he look to improve in this area?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
I think he needs to hire some fans who believe they can do that better than him.

Fitz looked intense and prepared at Camp Sunday.. if Connor ends up not being seriously hurt do they keep all three RB's along with Bell on the roster ?
Ed Bouchette
2:15
Fitz is dueling with Knile Davis for the No. 3 job. They usually keep 3, plus a fullback
2:16
Well, if they face Ryan it would have to be in the Super Bowl. The pass rush may help dictate some of those results too.

2:17
Is Tomlin really upset because Bell is not in camp.Do you think Tomlin will sit him a game or two?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
I believe he has to say he is somewhat unhappy, but I don't think it bothers him all that much. Heavens no, he's not going to sit him. He's probably going to run him until the wheels fall off.

With Ben's retirement talk, would you take a quarterback this coming draft (with supposedly a good crop) or wait until he actually retires?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
If I had a shot at someone I thought could be a good starting QB for me, I'd grab him.
SteelerD
2:18
Are they 100% comfortable with their TE situation?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Comfortable may be the wrong word, but I think they believe they can work with them.
kjacksonpgh
2:18
Ed, do you believe that the SB window is closing if we do not take advantage of Ben this year or next?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
You need a darn good QB to get to the Super Bowl and win it. Ben is that. If he's not there, they better have another darn good one.
Young
2:19
Which rookie or young player has looked the best in camp so far?
