Ed Bouchette

Good afternoon from Saint Vincent College. Let's begin
Mark from The Boken
1:59
What is the latest on Daimon Stafford  who is contemplating retirement ?
Ed Bouchette
1:59
The Steelers, who signed the unrestricted free agent safety, do not believe he wants to play anymore and have pretty much ruled him out.

Ed, This Bryant thing is getting really strange. Is the situation just a combined screw up by everyone involved or should Steeler fans be worried that a huge disappointment may be forthcoming?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
No, the Steelers are convinced he is on track and that he will be ruled eligible soon. They were surprised as anyone that the NFL did not fully reinstate him before camp started.

Hey Ed, say it aint so, that Golson, Burns, Sutton and Mitchell are all injured. If you can't deny or qualify it, then what the heck is going on?  And why does it take so long to get a clear report, e.g. on Burns?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
They are mostly minor injuries and I would not worry about MItchell or Burns. Sutton needs to get practice time in, not to mention games. Golson may be a lost cause with a severe hamstring injury.

Hey Ed, if the Steelers stay healthy do you think with Watt and Dupree bringing the pressure and Burns and company in the secondary do you see this Defence in the top 2 or 3 in the NFL?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
I believe they will improve, but asking for top 2 or 3 may be asking too much. I still have doubts about the cornerback situation.
Mike W
2:03
Do think the real reason that Bryant is not practicing is due to his hip problems.
Ed Bouchette
2:03
He has no hip problem.

How serious was James Connor's shoulder injury; do you think he will see a lot of action Friday eve?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
I do not believe it is serious, that they are just being cautious. They start practicing in an hour at 3 p.m. local time and if he returns to practice, I believe he will play Friday, barring any setbacks.
Krugerrand
2:04
Have you ever heard of teams cooridnating with their opponents in preseason games for any reason?  e.g. target a certain player, run a particular scheme, etc. so that they can see how their players will react?  Or, would that be something found only in joint training camp practices?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
That happens in joint practices. The only colluding I've seen in the preseason is when to play the first teams or when not to play the first teams at all.
Luca Brazzi
2:07
Will Ben get any snaps Fri or will Dobbs start, assuming Landry is still out?
Ed Bouchette
2:07
i would be surprised to see Roethlisberger play
Luca Brazzi
2:08
Ayers not even listed on the punt returner depth chart. What happened to Danny Smith saying he was the best returner in that draft class? Do you think he stills gets a chance this preseason to return punts?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
He may have been talking about him as a kick returner because I don't think Ayers returned punts in college.

Why do fans feel entitled to know more details about peoples injuries?  This is work.  Nobody would want their boss going around the office broadcasting thier personal medical problems.  I'm pretty sure they would sue if they did.
Ed Bouchette
2:09
And nobody is betting on whether the office workers win or lose.

Hi Ed, thanks for the chat.  I feel like we need to add an experienced CB. While I don't think it should be via a trade, we definitely need to sign another able body back there.  The injuries to our already "vulnerable" backfield is troublesome. What say you? Go get one or hold off? Thank you Sir.
Ed Bouchette
2:10
You usually do not find able bodies who are just hanging out there this time of year.

Love the weekly Chats Ed. How is this Martavis Bryant story STILL on the hush hush?? Did MB really mess up, or is this the case of Mr. Goodell showing his omnipotent power???
Ed Bouchette
2:10
It is a case of the NFL dragging its feet.

What have you seen from J Dobbs on the field that has impressed you?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
He has a quick release and has been really accurate. He does not have the strength that Ben does, but he is not weak-armed either.
dolphins
2:11
So, ESPN is reporting that the dolphins see Cutler as nothing but a one year fill-in. And that they also think Tannehill will never return because his injury is so brutal. And that Miami is now trying to trade for Dobbs. What could we get in return for Dobbs? Mike Pouncey?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
Well, that ain't happening.

Ed! What is the deal with Colin Holba?! He looks just awful. Why of why did we draft him!
Ed Bouchette
2:12
You been to practice? I must confess, I have not paid a lot of attention to him.
SteelyDan
2:13
What do you think Hines chances of making the HOF are? I know he's not a first ballot, but I feel he is deserving
Ed Bouchette
2:14
He has an uphill fight. He did not make the final 15 in his first try and Randy Moss joins Terrell Owens this year, along with two other WR finalists. That would put 4 ahead of him, at least as the voters now see it. The numbers are only going to get higher and ultimately Antonio Brown will pass Ward in the Steelers career record and that won't help him either.

Ed...the time has come for the Steelers to finally move on from Golson, no?
Ed Bouchette
2:15
Well, they haven't really had him to move on from him.
Dave in Cincy
2:15
Ed, since you've covered the Steelers for so long. Do you believe they should be hitting in camp more like Tunch and Wolf say, or do you think these injuries are just what they are from bigger, stronger players of today.
Ed Bouchette
2:16
It's a different game, a different era. Mike Tomlin has said he made a mistake by making his first camp in 2007 so hard. So, no, I don't agree.

How quickly does Colbert contact Greg Warren upon Holba's first mis-snap? OR has the Warren ship sailed with his injuries?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
The Steelers released Warren because he no longer physically could play.

Is McCullers just a nice guy with no fight? He was so big but too nice to be mean on the field?
