I would have made those changes starting in March, when I would not have put the tag on Bell and used that money to stock my defense. Too late now to make changes other than perhaps what MT is trying to do with the corners.

In an A to F grading scale how would you say Kevin Colbert handled the Bell situation?
Ed Bouchette
2:15
Well, so far it's an F because they got nothing out of it yet. However, it's early in the semester and there are more tests to come in which he can get a passing grade at least.

Ed..love your chats..is there another RB the Steelers might pick up to help Conner shoulder the workload?
Ed Bouchette
2:16
There is not, other than Stevan Ridley and Jaylen Samuels that I can see

If Bell waits to week 10 to report and seeing how out of shape Bell looked on his jet ski, do you believe the Steelers put him on the PUP list for 2 weeks, and does it still count for a year of service?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
They can put him on a two-week exempt list and not pay him and I believe it would count as a year of service. But that year of service means little anyway because he will be a UFA in March even if he sits out the entire season. The Steelers could still tag him but after this year, I doubt that would happen.

Your thoughts on Bostic's play on Monday night?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
I thought he played well, contributed with that big tip that ended with an interception

Brighter future Bengals or Browns? Cincy has put together very nice defensive drafts lately and unfortunately i believe it pays off soon
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Cincy still will need a QB, it looks like the Browns have one

Hi Ed..why did the Steelers pay so much for a Kicker??
Ed Bouchette
2:19
that was the going rate for a top kicker and Boswell has been that right up until the start of this season.

What is the reasoning behind not letting teams negotiate contracts with tagged players after a certain date?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
I'm not sure about that one. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?

What's your take on all the roughing the passer calls this year so far?  A lot of the calls seem pretty weak, to say the least.
Ed Bouchette
2:21
It's not just those calls, it's all of them. The NFL owners have passed so many rules that the officials on the field have to have law degrees to figure everything out. Seriously. The crew Monday night did not even know the rule about what to do on a penalty on a punt. It's ruining the game because there are so many fouls called. Add in replay, and there no longer is a flow to the game. It's like watching a chess match where one move is made and you have to wait 10 minutes for the next one.

DId Jordan Berry do enough Monday nite to call off the hounds for awhile or do the punter auditions continue this week?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
Yes
I mean call off the hounds for another week
Slim Whitman
2:22
Ed..what happened to Justin Hunter?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
Inactive. He's an all star in practice but has not been able to transfer that to games yet.

Do you think the NFL will backtrack a good bit on Roughing the Passer calls now that both owners and players are saying they have no clue?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
Yes, I do. But if you saw the Vince Williams sack that was nullified by a penalty Monday night, that was a classic way to sack the QB. He grabbed him, and flipped over so the QB landed on top of Vince rather than the other way around. I'll have to ask him if he did that on purpose or if it just looked that way.

Hey Ed..do you ever wear your Hall Of Fame gold jacket while eating a bowl of cereal?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
I don't have a gold jacket and I no longer eat cereal.

Does this defense miss Mike Mitchell?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
I think Mike Mitchell misses the defense more.
Boney James
2:25
Ed..what does it say about Landry Jones that hes still a free agent?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
That truly surprises me, considering some of the backup QBs in this league.

How good is that Chuks guy?
Ed Bouchette
2:26
We haven't been able to find out. They started Matt Feiler at RT Monday night and used Chuks as an extra tight end on some plays.

Do you think Bell would have been franchised again if Shazier did not get hurt? I think there would not been money to sign both and drafting Connor was them moving on.
Ed Bouchette
2:28
Except they are paying Shazier $8.7 million this year, the fifth year option of his rookie deal. They could have reduced that hit with a long term contract
Aaron
2:29
I am a big fan of Anthony Chickillo, will he continue to get increased snaps on D and do you think he is a future cog at LB?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Chickillo seems to play in flashes. This is his fourth season and he is the only backup OLB on the roster. I don't think he is a future cog with this team because they have picked up Dupree's fifth-year option and T.J. Watt is only in his second season.

Where is Godell and his (lack of) leadership on all these roughing the passer calls? Is he out spending his $45M Plus salary?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
He's not the one who voted the new rules in.
Professor Flush

Will the 49ers call Landry Jones?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
He had a scheduled workout with them Tuesday
