RE: Longoria/SF...it sounds like TB considers Arroyo a viable 3B starter. Based on the trade, it appears SF did not, or they could have plugged in Arroyo at 3B and just signed a different starter. Is this a difference of opinion on the prospect or just that TB is content to use Arroyo as a stop gap until their next contention window while SF was looking to contend right now?

Bit of both? I mean, Arroyo might make contact but not hit for power, I think that's the consensus on him as prospect. Giants seem to be able to turn that type out pretty easily, maybe they just thought they could do it again.

just read the article about Tom Hackimer and had a thought. When players take biomechanical data for their own use, does the team have any right to that? Can it be a factor in contract negotiations? Seems like between that and the rise of statcast there could be a lot of wild negotiation tactics

It's definitely an issue. I'd hate to have someone tell me they weren't signing me because of some biometric thing they saw. Players have to think hard about this and get out in front of this.

What if the MLBPA fought for an additional arbitration year so that they had one less year of pre-arb, basically sending every player into a Super 2, instead of getting to FA a year early (which seems something the owners would not agree to)
