Hi Mr. Fenton, I have a question about the student profile of the class. Do you have the latest Statistics for the student profile? Thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:03
Hi Bochao, we don't normally release information like avg GPA or test scores for all of our incoming students. the CIS program does, but they haven't updated their scores yet. You can find that info here: http://www.cis.upenn.edu/prospective-students/graduate/applying-stats....

What is the acceptance rate for international students in the Bioengineering PhD Program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:04
Hi Sourik, we don't publish the acceptance rate based on international vs domestic. But I can tell you the overall acceptance rate last year was 13.5%

Especially for the MSE in Data Science program

Hey Will,
Is it true that Master's applications that are submitted later than 15th of Nov (first deadline) have less chance to be accepted?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:05
khalifa, yes, for the 6 programs that have the two application deadlines, those that apply by Nov 15 usually have an at least slightly higher acceptance rate

Hi, I had a question about test scores. If I send in multiple GRE scores, would they be superscored, or is it preferred to send just one set of scores? I will be applying to the Electrical Engineering program.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:05
Sung Yoon, yes we use super scoring for the GRE scores.

Hi Jackson!

Is the average GRE Score of 326 mentioned for PhD Bioengineering program a rough estimate or a minimum cutoff that the student has to get?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:06
Sourik, if it's the average, that would mean it is just that. We don't have a cutoff point for GRE scores for the BE PhD program.
Jackson
10:05
Hi Will, Can I apply for 2 programs at the same time say the DS program, and MCIT. I am interested in both.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:06
Yes, Jackson, you can. You just have to submit one application before you can begin the other.

Hi Will, I was wondering if the acceptance rate for the integrated product design program is published?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:07
Konyin, it is not, but I can tell you last year it was approximately 20% for both IPD programs.

Hello,
I have 2 academic recommenders for CGGT . I worked with them during graduation but both of them have resigned the college. Can i still use their letters
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:08
Rhuta, yes, that should be fine. While we do like the letters to be on college letter head, this is not a requirement. Please make sure the letter writers include full name and contact info on the letter, just in case we need to reach out and confirm any information they include.

Is there a maximum students number that can MSc in Nanotechnology program accept every year? If yes, how many?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:08
Khalifah, we do not have a max number of students that are accepted.
10:09
This past year we accepted approximately 21.
Bochao Li
10:09
Do you have the latest acceptance rate for MSE in Data Science Program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:10
Bochao, yes. Last year it was approximately 9%

Hi Will, comparing the online and on-campus MCIT, is one more suited to students coming right out of university? On a a more general note, how are MCIT applicants coming from university seen compared to those with a few years of industry experience in terms of admissions?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Joanna, no, one is not more suited than the other. They are near mirrors of each other in terms of curriculum. As to your 2nd question, I can't really say, as we take a holistic approach to reviewing applications, and that is just one factor that is considered.
Sourik Dey
10:10
What is the approximate amount of stipend that a graduate student receives at UPenn?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:12
Sourik, do you mean for PhD? It varies by program, but I would say it's around $35-$45K. But due to the variation, I can't offer you a specific number.
Konyin
10:10
How much integration with the Philly community do you get as a graduate student (specifically for IPD)? Are there opportunities to work on projects geared toward the community?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:13
Konyin, there are a myriad amount of opportunities to work on projects in IPD. However, I'm going to recommend you contact Maryeileen Griffith at mebg@seas.upenn.edu in the program, as she can better answer that question.
Konyin
10:10
What kind of support do students receive when it comes to entrepreneurship and innovation?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:15
Again, this depends on the program as well as the student - this can be very self-driven here at Penn Engineering. However, between the Penn Innovation Center https://www.pci.upenn.edu/ and all of the various labs in Engineering, there are a multitude of opportunities.
Bochao Li
10:10
Also, do you have the stats that about how many percent of the student in MSE Data Science program are coming directly from college?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:15
No, this isn't something we publish.
Rhuta Joshi
10:10
I would also like to know more about the internship and placement opportunities in CGGT as i couldn't find anything specific. What are the different companies that recruit on campus
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:17
Rhuta, you can contact Nick Mancuso, the Program Coordinator for the program, at nmancuso@seas.upenn.edu. He can better supply this information. You can also check out the Career Services page here: https://careerservices.upenn.edu/events/default/ for a sample of the employers that come to campus.

If I am applying to a Master's program, is it acceptable to email specific professors and potential research advisors? Or, should I direct questions to the departmental heads?
