Good morning from Tempe. There are too many trade deadline links to plug here so I'll just assume you know where to find that stuff since you found this chat.

Is byron buxton a star?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:02
Uh, yeah. Some stars are volatile, right?

Is Wilderd Patino going to move up? Seems incredibly promising.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:02
I thought we had him in a pretty aggressive place pre-season and I'm not inclined to get nutty moving him up now. Maybe he's a 45 this offseason?

Is royce lewis still going to be a star?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:03
Yeah, I think so.

Does this high school pitcher have a chance to be a D1 player? Uncommitted before senior year in Pennsylvania. Fastball 83-5 top 87, aa curve, aa slider, aa change, average command. 6’1” 205.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:03
assuming the grades on the secondaries is correct, yes

12:04
What’s Oneil Cruz’s ceiling? Floor?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:05
His ceiling is like 40 homers while playing a valuable defensive position and the floor is he never does anything

If an organization as solid with hitters as the Rays sells an asset like Sanchez for relievers do you think that is a sign Sanchez may not reach his potential?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:06
I think TB may have been lower on him due to the plate discipline aspect of the profile, but mostly I think they're gearing up for the fall by acquiring huge bullpen arms and Anderson is one. I think they paid a premium for Anderson and Fairbanks, though. I get it, but it stings to give up talented, if flawed guys like Sanchez and Solak.

Hey Eric, any updates on whether guys like Jose Devers, Eduardo Garica, and Oswaldo Cabrera that need to add some physicality have made any progress on that front?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:07
Garcia broke his ankle and won't play this summer. The others have pretty much held serve.

I know DSL stats are not the most useful, but I can't find much info on White Sox P Ronaldo Guzman who's leading the league in K's at 16 years old. He one to keep an eye on?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:07
I've got nothing on him, sorry.

Post deadline, theres a lot of debate within the Tigers fandom about Al Avila. Any thoughts on his moves this deadline and the direction of this Tiger's rebuild as a whole with him at the helm?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:09
I guess it's been okay. I like the packages they got back for some of the pieces they've previously traded away, thought the Castellanos deal felt light but I don't know what else they might have been offered. They nailed the Mize pick, the Greene pick was fine, Skubal turned into a great pick. Some bright spots for sure.

How do you foresee the Barreto situation playing out in Oakland the remainder of this season and the next? He hasn't gotten a legitimate opportunity to start and loses his options this season.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:11
They're in a tough spot. They're trying to win and playing him may not give them the best shot at doing that every day, but sitting him gives him zero shot to reclaim value for offseason trade possibilities. They may just roster him as a utility guy next year, right?

Hey Eric! Maybe I'm grasping at straws here now that Kay and SWR are out of the system, but what should we make of Kevin Smith? I don't remember seeing much fanfare about this kid when he was drafted, but he's absolutely cruising right now. Could he end up developing into something real?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:12
Had a monster July after two bad months. I'm, at best, lukewarm there. Kiley's a little more optimistic.

Is Cody Bolton the best pitching prospect in the Pirates system? Does Tahnaj Thomas have a chance to reach that level?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:14
I like Bolton, but if he's a college arm available in the 2019 draft, do you think he goes ahead of Thomas or Priester? I do not. He'll slide up our list, but not past those guys.
Matthew
12:15
Isaac Paredes has played really well the past couple months. In a hypothetical world where he's an average defender at 3B or 2B is he a 55 FV?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:15
If we had no concerns about his build/longevity then he'd probably be a 55, yeah.

12:17
Have you ever seen a minor league rotation with more talent, all at the same time, then the current one throwing for AA Erie?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:18
2011 Mobile had Bauer, Borcbin, Skaggs, Jarrod Parker, Wade Miley

Why is Heliot Ramos not higher on prospect lists? He is 19 and performing really well in high A.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:19
Cal League is inflating those #s. He's universally considered a good prospect.

How do you expect the Yankees 40 man situation to shake out after they didn't address it much?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:22
They cleared one spot by moving Joe Harvey. I imagine they'll make a deal before the 40-man deadline that further consolidates or ships off fringe guys to teams that want to play them every day (like someone will have innings to give Michael King, Rony Garcia, will need catching depth like Higashioka)
Al Avila
12:23
Did I goof up by not trading Boyd on wed? Can't imagine the winter market will be much kinder
Eric A Longenhagen
12:23
I think waiting until the winter gives you more time to scout short-season affiliates and instructs

Josh VanMeter was not included on the Reds list last winter.  Had the swing change and production happened earlier and had a longer track record with it in the minors, how would he have been graded?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:25
I 40'd him at one point as a lefty utility bat a la Tommy La Stella
so something liek that
Hello

Is Marlins player development considered "poor" by industry standards? If so, why do they continue to buy up all these incredibly raw athletic types?
